Don't worry. You can sign after school. Besides, schools are always being idiots about one thing or another

Oh, you want to know about schools being idiots? I've worked for one. Shall I tell you about....

The way they budget for colored paper to print flyers no one ever reads, rather than utilizing

the free email no one ignores?

The way they have unnecessary staff luncheons catered by not-exactly-cheap restaurants, while kids on free and reduced-cost lunch programs never get enough to eat?

The way tenure is set up so horrible teachers are almost impossible to fire, while good teachers find it impossible to get jobs?

The way they say they welcome new ideas, yet shame and scorn anyone who challenges an outdated status quo?

The way they lay off most of their support staff due to "budget cuts," then a month later unveil their plans to renovate the front lobby and football field?

Excellent. You continue to follow the path foretold for you in accordance with prophecy.

Heh. Let's see how I can elaborate on what's been going on yet still keep it couched in vagueness enough to satisfy CYA requirements.  (There are lawyers involved.  This fact fills all of us at work with copious amounts of glee.)

I work for Large Financial Institution (henceforth known as LFI).  My particular department focuses on credit/charge cards for what we shall call widgets.  My focus is on the merchant support for a particular kind of Specialized Widget.  Many people use are cards to pay for the maintenance and feeding of their widgets at various locations all over the United States.

We also are the major processor for several different companies that manufacture and sell widget food on a large scale to widget food providers.  One of these companies, whom we shall call Global Widget Foods, has been very, very Naughty.  I can't go into too many details, but they've been doing enough Naughty things that the lawyers are goggling over the crazy level of Naughty that they have to go after.  Much of the Naughty is couched in amazingly high levels of Dumb, and much of that Dumb has resulted in us finding out about a lot of the Naughty.

I created this meme specifically for Global Widget Foods:

Fry.jpg

It's funny 'cause it's true.

All of the shenanigans and Naughty and Dumb ultimately led to us deciding that we're not going to be their monkey anymore.  We are in the final days of the contract, and we've hit an extinction burst of Naughty and Dumb that really just serves to remind us that the end is near, and at that point, there will be much rejoicing.  The lastest piece of fun they threw at us:  They sent out letters to ALL Specialized Widget Service Providers (not just the ones that buy widget food from them) that if they used softwares X, Y, and Z (also owned by Global Widget Food, bought up over the years for reasons that are unclear to us) they would no longer be able to process our widget food card.  We cannot tell whether this was a flat-out lie or if the person doing the telling really didn't understand what they were talking about.  This happens a lot.  Hence the meme above.

We also had someone call in and tell us today that Specialized Widget Food told them that we will be extending our deadline.

We aren't.

Oi.

The stress is such that I was >thisclose< today to grabbing the bottle of bubbles off of my manager's desk and skipping around the entire floor blowing bubbles and singing, "Tra-la-la I am the Bubble Fairy!"

Come to think of it, management is laid back enough that I could probably get away with it, provided I did it during my break.

The way that they try to shut down the AP US History class?

The way they take away a period from the schedule just cause a couple parents complained about kids having to much free time, instead of simply reducing the amount of allowed off hours?

The way some teachers make entire grades based off a single assignment that doesn't even matter?

Kaymyth, your manager has bubbles on his/her desk????

Hee.

It's been an interesting ride this week, to say the least.  And I get to work some overtime on Sunday.  Boo work, yay extra money.  I don't expect that we're going to get nearly as many calls as management is afraid of, though, so I'm going to take in my laptop and do some writing.

What will you be writing about?

I'm probably going to try and tack a few thousand more words onto the Mistborn fanfic I've been working on.  I need to finish getting the rough draft banged out so that I can tear it apart for rewrite.

If you need a proof reader/beta reader, just shoot me a PM.

I've got a couple of RL friends lined up for beta'ing once I finish the second draft, but it wouldn't hurt to have someone who doesn't have to look me in the eye ruthlessly tell me what needs to be destroyed.  I shall keep you in mind. :)

My clothes always get redistributed.

And look, I get it. I'm still living at home, with two younger sisters, one of whom is just a size or two larger than I am, and we all like bright, cheerful colors. So it's inevitable that our clothes will get mixed up by whoever sorts the laundry.

But this, what I deal with, is nothing short of ridiculous. I buy all my own socks. I've shown my youngest sister (who does most of the laundry-folding and sorting) what my socks look like. Yet almost every time, my socks go to my mom or my other sister. Who then proceed to wear them anyway, knowing what they look like and who they belong to. Is it really too much effort to carry them to my door and leave them there? You don't even have to turn the handle and open the door. You just have to drop them outside. I'd still love you forever. It's the same thing with shirts, and jeans, and other articles of clothing—they go to my mom or one of my sisters.

Recently, I got a new pair of Batman pajamas. I put them in the wash because—well, new pajamas plus Walmart equals something you want to wash before wearing. That was this morning. The load was finished and sorted while I was at work. Guess who can't find her brand-new pajamas after searching her youngest sister's room, the dryer, and the dirty laundry. I even asked my other sister, but she claims not to have seen them.

That sucks.

Time to start doing your own laundry?

Soar. So soar. Tree fell on my neighbors lawn and it hit another so I've been helping him chainsaw and burn 2 whole 100+ yrs 80+ft tall Oak trees.

Take an ice bath. I've always found that to help.

My brother and I live for that stuff. We do arborist work occasionally, with the ropes and harnesses and rigging. We're pros.

I've tried, but with six people in the house, there's always a lot of laundry that still needs to be done, so the only way to get my stuff washed is to wash it with the other clothes. I'd go to a laundromat, but the nearest one is twenty minutes away and if I started lugging home bags of my own laundry, my mom would almost certainly accuse me of being passive aggressive.

Next thing you know, your sister is going to find your Shardplate in her laundry...

Twi, why didn't you just tell us that your safehand glove was mixed up with your sister's laundry? We would've understood. :P

An...unconvered safehand? Scandalous! What has this world come to!

My mom, to me, back when I told her my coworkers were bullying me and my boss treated me horribly:

"I'm sure it's not as bad as you're saying, and if it is, then it's probably because of something you're doing. Stick it out. Work extra hard. Make sure you have another job lined up before you quit."

My mom, to my younger sister, now that her boss is treating her horribly:

"You should quit. Your babysitting job should hold you over. Don't let people treat you that way."

Is anyone else having problems with the Boards on Mobile? I'm getting error pages on most threads and yesterday I couldn't even get on after 7 pm Central.
