  1. A year ago, I knew there was a song by Nirvana called "Smells Like Teen Spirit", but that was about it.

    Now?

Now I'm curled up under a blanket at 2 in the morning, blasting it on repeat.

  2. Christmas Devotional off to a great start! Loving this arrangement of Hark, the Herald Angels Sing.

Y'all are welcome to tune in, too! ^_^

  3. It's been a while. Happy December, everyone!

Pen is a Pilot Custom 823, ink is Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo.

  4. All right, fine, I'll do it. This time.

    :P

  5. This...exists. And I somehow didn't realize. I really need to browse the forums more, huh?
  6. Ooh, there're more of us?! How exciting!
  7. I didn't, as I'm trying to hold off any pen purchases until after Christmas. Inks may be another story (though, of course, the prime window for deals is now over). Vanness just stocked some new inks from Kobe that look interesting, and I've wanted to try Dominant Industry since I first heard about them through UK Fountain Pens' review. It is fun to see what folks can find for Black Friday, though! Even if I do have my concerns about sale culture in general. (See this post, again from UKFP. It's a really interesting read.) Oh, good. I fell in love with Tomoe from the moment I first touched a pen to it, so I'm glad to see it'll still be around!
  8. Yo, I love those books! I don't see people talking about them all that much. Glad to see other people appreciate them, too. I haven't listened to them, myself, aside from a short story set in the series. Don't remember much plot-wise, but I know I did like the narrator.
  9. "Jack Frost roasting on an open fire, chestnuts nipping at your nose..."

    My family concerns me.

Oh, really? Then I guess it's just the youth of today that concern me. :P (And, yes, that includes myself.)

My dad first sang it to me when I was six or seven, back in the mid-90s. :P

This just in: everyone on this planet is cause for concern

  10. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! ^_^

  11. (I was serious about that question, by the way. Maybe I ought to clarify that it doesn't have to be classical. Just tell me your favorite song and I'll go find a piano cover of it! It's for book research...stuff.)

      Oh well, in that case…

“Mia and Sebastian’s Theme” from La La Land.

“Tarah” from the Kaladin soundtrack does have strings, but is mostly piano; letting ya know, I’ve yet to find a cover, let alone a transcription of the piece. So, that’s left me to do it.

“Epiphany,” which is originally by a k-pop artist named Jin, but the cover I’m talking about is by the Piano Guys.

“Merry-Go-Round of Life” from Howl’s Moving Castle, covered by Kyle Landry.

“Money for School” from Over the Garden Wall.

“Epiphany,” but this one’s from Soul, and is completely different.

“Once Upon a December” from Anastasia, but the cover I prefer is by Emile Pandolfi.

“To Zanarkand” from Final Fantasy X, and you can find a good cover of it anywhere and by anyone.

“Valse di Fantastica” from Final Fantasy XV.

And “The Burning Bush” from The Prince of Egypt, which is definitely not a piano piece, but you can find something from it and the soundtrack is amazing and it would be a crime to not mention it.

The Piano Guys and Kyle Landry are some of my favorite artists, so we're already off to a great start!

I'll be checking out the rest after work. Thanks for all the suggestions!

@Ookla the Mystic Thanks again for the suggestions! I really enjoyed the Final Fantasy ones especially. The Final Fantasy franchise just has some amazing music, it seems. (There's one I heard not too long ago from VIII called "Eyes On Me" that I really like, though I don't believe it's original to the game.) I also enjoyed the ones from the Kaladin album, Soul, and Anastasia!

  12. Yooooo that's amazing! Seriously. The more I look at it, the more I love it. Thanks for sharing!

  14. People of the Shard, what're your favorite piano pieces? Either to perform or simply to listen to?

This was Leia the dachshund's favorite piece. She loved it when I played it for her. She'd even sing if we played the recording, but she did prefer the live piano.

Aww, that's really sweet! I'm not surprised she loved it so much; it's a gorgeous song.

Y'know, it's been at least a decade since I've heard it, but I definitely remember it from when I was younger. Thanks for the reminder. :)

  15. Recently finished All You Need is Kill, the manga (originally a novel) Edge of Tomorrow was based off. It was really good! Very different from the movie, mostly in a good way, of course. Now I want to see if I can get my hands on the original novel.
  16. If you'll permit me to be a weeb for a moment. BUMP OF CHICKEN. They're really good, actually! I've been listening to their album Yggdrasill on repeat. (I particularly like "Only Lonely Glory" and "Rem".) Also, the music for The Rising of the Shield Hero is phenomenal! The opening and ending themes are especially good. (O1, O2, E1, E2) Something they do, and that seems to be fairly common in anime, is to have the opening and endings contrast each other: in this case, the openings are powerful and energetic and set the stage for the epic fight-for-your-lives tone of the show. But the ending themes are gentle. There are sweet moments in the show, and in life, in between all of the suck, and the ending themes exemplify that. (Also, the accompanying visuals are top-notch.)
    1. I order something. It arrives.
    2. It doesn't fit. I send it back.
    3. A day later, another one shows up.
    4. ????????
    5. ...profit? Maybe? I don't know! Nobody said anything, it just showed up! What am I supposed to do with it? Do I keep it? Is it a gift? A mistake? Who do I talk to? Do I return to sender, or is a mysterious hitman going to show up and demand it back along with my kneecaps? I'm so confused.

Report the mistake and chances are they will tell you to just keep it, if this is Amazon

It isn't. But that is the plan, anyways.

  18. Currently early in Mosiah. Moving at a snail's pace because for whatever reason, good habits are infinitely harder to form than bad ones. But still moving! CFM is...not really happening, for the aforementioned reason. We're doing it as a family, though. I suppose that's what I like about this kinda thing. It's personal, infinitely personalizable. Everybody has their own pace.
  19. I feel like, if you’re going to call your band BUMP OF CHICKEN, you have two options: either be so over-the-top it borders on parody, or be so good that it doesn’t matter what you call yourself.

So far, IMHO, they are solidly in the latter camp.

Bump of Chicken sounds like a menu item you'd find on one of those badly translated Chinese-to-English menus, ngl
