  1. Works fine here.
  2. Can you make it public please?
  3. Hah! Nice. I've been waiting for this. There are 10 different spren that give the ability to Surgebind and they are all Splinters. Stormriding is not a regular power of Surgebinding. It's a side-effect of either being a Surgebinder or a Radiant. I'll add other stuff as I think of them.
  4. Sigh. I don't think I have anything to say other than I've already said. I give up. But I'm reserving my right to say "I told you so" when WoR comes.* I'm certain there are only 3 powers for a Surgebinder. *unless I'm wrong in which case I'll completely forget about this.
  5. Why so linear? I'm guessing you're saying that because of the POV change? That doesn't mean anything. The POVs could easily be overlapping. In fact, they very likely do. It says right there Stormlight burst is before the Second Ideal. I think timeline is like this: Kaladin's feet hit the ground Stormlight burst and crack sound Parshendi first rank stumble Second Ideal Kaladin raises his spear Subdued Stormlight glow Just look at the time when the Stormlight is unleashed from Kaladin at both POVs. In one, it's before the Second Ideal, in the other it's after the crack.
  6. Nah, Shin was their romantic getaway where they could reminisce Yolen.
  7. There are two possibilities regarding the so-called pressure wave. For reference, I'm posting these two quotes. The first is Kaladin's POV, the second is Teft's. As can be understood from the bolded parts, both quotes describe the same event, at the same time. From Kaladin's POV, it looks like Stormlight startles the Parshendi, they stumble and fall down. From Teft's POV, Stormlight hits the Parshendi and they are tossed back. So two possibilities: A) There is no "pressure wave" and it's just Teft's hyperbole. He sees something and misinterprets it. I find this the likely option since the man starts thinking Kaladin is a tiny god after this. Stormlight is somehow harmful to Parshendi. Where did the bolded happen? Is it the scene of chasm duty where Kaladin climbs the wall with Full Lashed rocks? I can't remember anything special about it.
  8. It is what they were called though. By the real Windrunners, in the Heraldic Epochs. Mistborn Ars Arcanum is totally different. For one thing there was no Allomancy before the Lord Ruler and Rashek did everything he could to hide what he didn't want known.
  9. Why would the Three Lashings be called Three Lashings if there were a fourth lashing? And I'm pretty sure Brandon said somewhere that each Surgebinder has three powers. Well, Ishar's Order has Atmospheric Pressure too, so maybe they have something like what you're saying.
  10. Lots and lots. http://coppermind.net/wiki/Elantris/Summary http://coppermind.net/wiki/Elantris_%28city%29 http://coppermind.net/wiki/Raoden http://coppermind.net/wiki/Sarene These articles are especially lacking. I've been thinking of doing the last three myself.
  11. The Alloy of Law is pretty good actually. I would even say it's better than the first Mistborn trilogy but that's my opinion. Maybe the guns and the cowboy put you off a bit instead of a medieval setting. But I recommend you give it a second try. Non-cosmere, I agree with Argent. Give Legion a try. It's short and pretty good so maybe you'll have an idea what to expect from the rest. If you want a full-length novel I recommend Steelheart.
  12. Yeah, someone should probably move this to WoR forum or Steelhunt. I don't think your theory is true because Nalan goes to A LOT of trouble to make his targets fit his twisted sense of justice. Taravangian has no illusions. Also Nalan is going specifically after Surgebinders while Taravangian's group just seem to be trying to create chaos and not care about Surgebinders at all. And I mean no offense but the smoke connection is very, very thin. The man was just trying to make a hole in stone. Maybe his Soulcaster was attuned to only smoke that would accomplish what he wanted.
  13. Stormlight is not the focus. It's Investiture. In Scadrial, every human is Invested with a bit of Preservation's essence. Allomancers are people with more than a certain amount of that power. Lerasium is this essence made physical, so when someone burns it he/she is Invested with more power. This is where the Mistborn come from. When the Allomancer burns other metals, Preservation's essence within the Allomancer is unleashed, and what it does is determined by the molecular structure of the metal he/she is burning. This is what focus is, it determines what the Investiture does in the Physical Realm. Mists are also the essence of Preservation like lerasium, only in gaseous form. In Roshar, people are not Invested innately. They gain Investiture depending on the way act. A spren is attracted to a person and forms a Nahel bond which gives the person the ability to use Stormlight to manipulate the natural forces (or Surges) of Roshar. Stormlight is akin to mists from Scadrial. It is Honor's essence. As far as Investiture goes, Stormlight and Dor (combined essence of Devotion and Dominion) are similar. They are both outside of the person's body. While Breath (Endowment's essence) and Preservation's essence are within the person.
  14. I'm worried about every Surgebinder. The prick would murder Kaladin claiming he started a rebellion or something. I really hate the guy.
  15. Do we really need the Magic section? This is from the tWoK page: I think we can all agree this is inadequate, vague and not exactly accurate. It was maybe good enough at some point because we didn't know much about magic then. But we got lots of new information about it since then and no one thought of updating the book page. It's understandable. Even if someone thought of it, it would just be a duplication of effort so it doesn't exactly motivate a person to do it, you know? Another thing is Stormlight Archive is going to be a 10 book series assuming there are no spin-offs, short stories and the like. Are we going to put the same information for every one of those 10 books? That would be kind of pointless. So I'm proposing we leave things like magic, culture of the world etcetera in the navigation box below. It would save us a lot of effort to keep the Coppermind up to date and well... I don't think redundancy is pretty. So... Cover Synopsis Plot Summary Characters (a little info on main characters like Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, Szeth and a simple list of important but side characters) Awards, nominations, sales numbers etc. I think these four sections are ideal.
  16. You were annoyed Lift cuts Wyndle off when he starts giving us information too, huh? As much as it sucks though, I think Kaladin without Syl would just be terrible.
  17. I think this'll happen at the end of the first 5-book arc. Then they'll go around recruiting more members. And the second 5 books will deal with the Desolation.
  18. Atium spike? So you would kill a 13-year-old girl to steal her Awesomeness? PEOPLE, RUN!
  19. Pre-Recreance, I don't think the Radiants would let the rogues have too much freedom, if they even let rogues exist in the first place. Heal the people of your village with Regrowth, fine; try to start your own cult, a dozen Windrunners drop from the sky and convince you of your mistakes by way of beating the crap out of you. Post-Recreance, there was nobody who'd care. They may have done all sorts of stuff.
  20. Can Cultivation even access Preservation's power? I mean I know they are all parts of Adonalsium in the end but Ruin couldn't touch Preservation's powers. So Intent seems to matter. And you know how Sazed says everything in Scadrial is Preservation and Ruin? It stands to reason the same would be true of Honor and Cultivation in Roshar. So that food already is essentially Stormlight, Lift is converting it into... I don't know... its Spiritual components or something. It wouldn't make sense she'd be able to convert something of Roshar to Preservation's essence. I have to say I very highly doubt your theory is correct. Even if it's possible by the rules Brandon created which I'm not sure it is, it doesn't make much sense to make Lift an Allomancer.
  21. Okay first, Radiant bond is the Surgebinder bond. All Radiants are Surgebinders. The only difference is the Ideals, which strengthen the bond not alter. Knights Radiants are an organization of Surgebinders. So there is no such thing as a Knight Radiant who is not a Surgebinder, though the reverse is possible of course. Also Shallan is a Surgebinder and her abilities are tied to the Cryptics. That's WoB. Second, if all Surgebinders bonded to honorspren, why would Nohadon say "not all spren are as discerning as honorspren" in reference to a Surgebinder he doesn't think well of?
  22. Fair enough. Let's say Kaladin thinks Stormlight got more potent for him after he said the Words then.
  23. She says the Words of the Second Ideal in the text. That's before Nalan calls her an Edgedancer. Though the First Ideal is not there so that means she said it before. Each Ideal makes the Stormlight more efficient.
  24. Two weeks? I will finish it in two days max then start my first reread.
  25. Maybe. But that's just something we've never seen before, you know? It's always been one focus for one magic system. Aons, ancient Fjordell letters, metals, commands. It's never been a combination of multiple things. I just don't know if Brandon would change it now.
