Should I? I mean it was very detailed before. http://coppermind.net/w/index.php?title=Kaladin&diff=25986&oldid=25979 Which one's better: before or after?
-
Thanks for correcting it, and for the advice. I'd just looked it up from Wikipedia.
-
I don't know if something like this is necessary. Most people will pronounce however they want, and if someone wants to learn the correct way, then there's no harm in providing them. I mean I don't pronounce Kaladin as KAL-a-din even though I put it in the article, I say it more like kal-a-DEEN.

It would be nice to have the template. People often ask Brandon about pronunciations, so I think it's a good idea to add them as much as we can to the Coppermind. I think the best would be to use this for IPA. It also displays the phonemes in tooltip when you point your mouse over the IPA characters. Though it has dependencies on a lot of other templates, so it might be difficult to implement it and I guess you'd have to use another template for respelling. If you want to go with something simpler, I don't think you should put the parentheses in the template itself, so that the editor would have the freedom to use it wherever they want. And maybe make the "pronounced" text optional, too, for the same reason.

I don't know whether I'll stop or not yet. I'll wait for other comments before that as you say, but I went over the article and saw you were right. I just cut some parts from the article, and for the time being I'm content with its length.
-
Okay, shortened the intro a bit. I think it's fine now? I'd tried to keep it detailed because history was this long, but it was too much, yes. Eh, it may have gotten a bit out of hand because I've been hanging around wikis with really long pages recently. I guess it rubbed on me. I'll try to moderate from now on. I'm fine if anyone wants to shorten it by the way, don't think I'd get angry or something. Looked in that light the article is probably done, content-wise, until WoR comes out.

I wouldn't mind some critic on Kaladin revamp. It's rather long, and only done to Kaladin's sale to Sadeas' army. It'd be great if someone could proofread it and check my grammar too. You can fix the mistakes directly or just post it here.

Can you give us the birthdates of some major characters? From what you're saying, it seems like Kaladin and Shallan were born in 1153 and 1156 respectively, but right now we have them in 1154 and 1155 at the Coppermind. We probably got others wrong as well. It'd be great to have official confirmation.

Yeah, I don't think it's a good idea to use the same layout for every place article. Let's divide them into four categories and create a different layout for each of them: Shardworlds, nations, settlements (cities/towns/villages), and buildings. NationsHistory Geography PoliticsGovernment Internal politics Foreign relations Military CultureReligion Language Demographics SettlementsHistory Geography Cityscape Administration Culture Demographics I think these are good for cities and nations. If there is need for extra sections, AonDor stuff for Elantris for example, it can be added of course. I'm not sure what to use for worlds and buildings, except that both should have a history section and buildings should have layout and architecture. I'll think on it.

Or The Emperor's Soul. It's arguably Brandon's best writing. And welcome to 17s, Your Highness.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0An26dy4dXmx6dENqU2ZpUUZUTk5vUm1fMFBUZ3Z5ZUE&usp=sharing I did this a while back, if anyone's interested. It's probably accurate for the most part, but there may be errors too. I didn't check it for mistakes much.

I'd say it's "technically possible," but doesn't happen under normal circumstances. Since giving Commands is a Cognitive process (picturing the Command in your mind), it's likely given to the Cognitive aspect of an object. In that regard, Awakening is very much like Soulcasting, actually. There is a communication in the scene between the object and Shallan where she Soulcasts for the first time. IIRC, the object asks her to change it to something else. So I guess, something with enough cognitive function could possibly reject being Awakened. By the way, Investing an already Invested object takes tremendous amount of power. Technically speaking, these Invested objects can be said to reject being Invested again. So I suppose it could be argued if you were to try to re-Awaken an already Awakened rope, it would refuse your Command. Does this make sense? I think it does. Maybe.

You underestimate Adolin's power. Seriously though, part of the reason I hate Adolin is because of how much he reminds me of Gawyn. They are basically the same characters in my mind, especially after Brandon took over WoT, only Adolin doesn't have as much angst--yet. So his annoying-ness becomes compounded.
-
God, I haven't hated any fictional character as much as I hate Adolin since Gawyn Trakand. I just hope he and Kaladin don't become best buddies after some clichéd male-bonding thingie, and Shallan doesn't go through with the marriage.
-
It's not possible to create gems with Soulcasting. Shallan will mention it later in the book.

These are rather small things. The article starts as "The City of Elantris". That seems a bit superfluous to me. I would just write "Elantris" and be done with it. The three quotes you have in the article all have a blankspace at their beginning. Can you make the Trivia section into a list? It just looks better that way.

I'm assuming this is also a good place to talk about exemplaries that we think shouldn't be exemplary. <DISCLAIMER>My intention is not to belittle anyone's work. If anyone is offended by this, I'm terribly sorry.</DISCLAIMER> Renarin Kholin Chaos made this exemplary recently, but I think it was done prematurely. If we go by the criteria in the OP, it is not long-form, and since it doesn't have a "History" section, it definitely doesn't contain everything on the subject and cannot be considered "done" until new info comes along. This should be changed to "good" until someone writes the "History" section. Tevidian Tekiel I can't reliably judge the content since it's been some time I reread Mistborn, and I wasn't paying much attention to Tevidian while I was reading in any case. Still, on a cursory glance, it doesn't seem to be everything. Also like Renarin, it doesn't fit the long-form criterion. It doesn't match the current guidelines. Section titles seem arbitrary. It's a bad idea to stamp every well-written and -cited article exemplary, because it's counterproductive to improving the quality of the articles. Speaking for myself, when I see that yellow box, I'm very hesitant to change anything on or add anything to the article, because by definition the article should be excellent and I shouldn't have to change or add anything. It also lowers our standards. On a cheerier note, Windrunner published his Lift article, and I can't see any reason it shouldn't be exemplary.

Thing is, Jasnah travels because she wants to do research and Roshar doesn't have the internet, not for exploration's sake. Hers are more business trips than anything. On the other hand, Eshonai expressly states she wants the stupid war with the Alethi over with, so she could go around exploring the world. Also, the other four, Kaladin, Shallan, Szeth and Dalinar, all have their own flashback books in the first five book arc. So does Eshonai. It stands to reason that Eshonai would be the Explorer, she is the best fit.

I think he RAFOed that question, though he did say Radiants were human. http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=977#178

Selfish Post - Need Personal Recommendation

Yeah, I figured as much. I suggest you give it another chance and at least read up to Dead Beat because it becomes an excellent series later on. I pretty much agree with AG Rooster, except White Night is also 5/5 definitely. I loved Blood Song as well. It doesn't seem to get much publicity, maybe because it was self-published before Ace bought it. But it's definitely an amazing book. The second book in the series, Tower Lord, is coming out in July. -

How far into the Dresden Files did you read? Because the first three books are mostly crap and tend to discourage people a bit. But the series get a whole hell of a lot better which each book after that. Summer Knight is pretty good, and pretty much every book once you get to Dead Beat is god-tier. -
This is the weirdest reason for preferring paperbacks that I've ever seen. Respect.

It seems to me that Elhokar is the only person in the cosmere that actually likes Hoid.

42. Nope 43. Because he is the type of person who blackmails people and he has a handle on Gaz. 44. The latter.
