This makes more sense to me. It's not like there are many symbols from Cosmere that we'd recognize. Brandon only gave us so many and I can't think of one with "unreal angles".
-
So let me get this clear: I said "there is a lot of new info about surges in Steelhunt excerpt" and didn't post any of that said info anywhere. You went ahead and knowingly searched the forums for spoiler material. Now you think it was my fault you were spoilered. Is that about the shape of it? Because this is what I gather from what you're saying.

Theory of Surges and Orders: An adaptation of Isomere's table
cem replied to Sabrina Stormshard's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'm not so sure about this. For one thing, Radiants can't be receiving their orders from the Heralds. They go back to being tortured between desolations. Even if they are, saying "the Worldsingers are Radiants because they both take orders from the Heralds" is like saying "apples are red, so are tomatoes, therefore tomatoes are apples." Also, This is a WoB from a recent signing. It is paraphrased by Argent so we should ask him/her about the "not Orders" comment in parenthesis. But if it's accurate, then it would mean the theory is wrong.- 88 replies

Doesn't there have to be an Almighty for there to be Heralds of the Almighty? Unless he's going to be a Herald of Cultivation, I suppose. Anyway, I think Dalinar's role, if it's not being a KR, is probably more like Nohadon's. Bringing the Surgebinders together, reforming the Knights Radiant, preparing the world for the Desolation and such. His arc seem similar to what we know of Nohadon to me.

If you're taking suggestions, could you ask if Surgebinding Investiture is only of Honor or both Honor and Cultivation?

Theory of Surges and Orders: An adaptation of Isomere's table

lol. There is no solid evidence as far as I'm aware of. But I'm sold on the idea Shallan is a Lightweaver. So a Light-Transformation combination makes sense to me. PM me. I have my own as well and I'd love to compare notes.- 88 replies

It's actually the default chapter art. Szeth, Kaladin, Shallan and Dalinar get their own symbols. Everything else gets the KR symbol.

Pretty sure 9th is Stonewards. Their armor glows amber. Plus Stonewards - rock&stone thing is pretty suggestive. Then there is Talenel being nicknamed Stonesinew.- 88 replies

I agree. Though probably for a different reason than you guys. Still that kinda leaves out Lightweavers. Assuming they are illusionists, where would you put them?- 88 replies

Theory of Surges and Orders: An adaptation of Isomere's table

Some scholars are wrong? I mean Syl looks very much like a windspren. It took Kaladin a year to suspect she is something else even though she didn't act like regular spren. It's not that surprising there would be different opinions. Here we are, discussing the very same thing and if we assumed Reddit quote didn't exist, we could discuss it until we die of old age and never come to a definite conclusion. Never mind the fact that generally speaking most in-book characters are a lot less Cosmere aware than us readers. Maybe that's not the case. The spren from the Interlude seems mostly Cultivation for example. And cryptics are probably a lot closer to Honor than Cultivation as well, which messes up my upper-side=Honor, lower-side=Cultivation theory. Even then we've only seen three of the ten Radiant spren. We know very little about spren at this point to say for certain.- 88 replies

http://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/1ced7z/iamstilla_novelist_named_brandon_sanderson_ama/ This is what I was referring to. It answers exactly what we're discussing. Yeah, I think I can guess your reasons. But when you take the above answer into account, it doesn't really work the way you say it does.- 88 replies

Worldhopping is tied to the Cognitive Realm or Shadesmar as known in Roshar. But we don't have the particulars as of yet. Though apparently we'll get a hint of how Hoid does it. And yes, Harmony could travel to Roshar. But as I understand it, it's not exactly easy to leave a world once a Shard Invests some of his/her power there.

Theory of Surges and Orders: An adaptation of Isomere's table
cem replied to Sabrina Stormshard's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There are more than two groups. Very, very likely there is one spren for each Order. Jasnah and Shallan are bonded with different spren, that's in the chapter of tWoK where they discuss the cryptics after Shallan Soulcasts. And Syl is not a windspren but honorspren are cousins to windspren. Brandon said that in Reddit, IIRC. I'm also guessing you don't have a Steelhunt code?- 88 replies

Theory of Surges and Orders: An adaptation of Isomere's table
cem replied to Sabrina Stormshard's topic in Cosmere Discussion
How about gravity, atmospheric pressure, friction or travel? One Surge may fit Cultivation, two if you count whatever Surge Growth ability comes from but Honor is an abstract concept. You can't fit any of the Surges to Honor. So I think upper side is Honor and lower side is Cultivation, and Surges are none. Kaladin, for example, is a Windrunner and called the child of Tanavast and child of Honor in tWoK chapter 47 by who I'm guessing was Cultivation.- 88 replies

Since we are making a Splinter of Adonalsium, wouldn't it make more sense to combine the Splinters of all Shards rather than those condensed essence thingies? Which would make the list: Devotion: Aons at the center of Seons Dominion: something to do with the Skaze Endowment: Divine Breath Honor and Cultivation: Sprens probably.

Could someone add this Kaladin chapter to the first post? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VkGVO97Yq_sw3dV63j0BRw181MoIFvH_QKAYl0WU--w/edit?usp=sharing

That's from tWoK Chapter 7. Pretty suggestive, isn't it? 2nd question: Nope, Honor is Almighty. Religion in Roshar is pretty accurate compared to other Cosmere worlds, possibly because of the Heralds. 3rd: Could be many reasons. Plates leak Stormlight when they are cracked. They also used to glow when used by Knights Radiant. Or for all we know it was a trick of sunlight. I don't read much into that scene at this point.

Theory of Surges and Orders: An adaptation of Isomere's table
cem replied to Sabrina Stormshard's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's not crackpot at all. Adjacent Orders share a Surge so they have one ability in three common. Jasnah and Shallan are both Soulcasters. Windrunners and Skybreakers can both do either Basic Lashing or Full Lashing, same with Windrunners and the 2nd Order. It's perfectly plausible they share themes. BTW, is Brightcallers a confirmed Order? It sounds more like a nickname for one of the Heralds to me. Bold, I agree with. I think Surgebinding Investiture comes both from Cultivation and Honor. But I don't think it's categorized by surges. It's more likely half the Orders and Heralds are from Honor and half from Cultivation. If the spren are Splinters then I think half the Radiant sprens are Splinters of Honor and half of Cultivation. There are some things that support this in the Steelhunt Interlude.- 88 replies

Theory of Surges and Orders: An adaptation of Isomere's table
cem replied to Sabrina Stormshard's topic in Cosmere Discussion
How do we discuss this without breaking the Steelhunt censor rules? That chapter is like treasure. There is almost as much info about Surgebinding in there as all we had before it. Anyways, your question in red: I think time is going to end up being a surge. But there is no information or confirmation about it. There isn't even a hint from Brandon. I've looked. It's a pure guess but I think it's a good one. Though I imagine Surgebinding of it will work a bit differently than Allomancy time bubbles. Would you mind PMing me your table? I have my own and am curious about yours. Especially where you placed the info from the Steelhunt Interlude. I am ambivalent between Orders 4 and 5 myself. I hope this post was circumspect enough without being gibberish.- 88 replies

We're allowed to beg for codes, right? Cause I'm begging for one too. International reader here, guys. All the way on the other side of the world.
-
You're welcome. Yeah, I think "weight" makes more sense in both cases. Done the changes. And thanks for the "ardent".
-
Brandon always calls the Plates and Blade "Invested objects". That doesn't mean Splinters couldn't be Invested but that doesn't really make much sense to me. Besides aren't spren confirmed to be Splinters and not just of Honor?
-
Alright. I'm done with the Kaladin reading. Let me know if you find any mistakes. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VkGVO97Yq_sw3dV63j0BRw181MoIFvH_QKAYl0WU--w/edit?usp=sharing

Is anyone transcribing the Kaladin reading? I'm thinking of doing it if no one's started.

Six feet under. Both Dominion and Devotion are Splintered and their holders are dead. Probably why the source of all the magic systems is the same.
