The Vorin dress doesn't mean the woman is Vorin; it only means whoever was depicting her believed she should be. I don't know if there is a term for it, but we often assume people in the past were kind of like us, so while this lady could've had nothing to do with Vorinism, Vorin scholars could've assumed (or decided) she was Vorin, so they influenced her depictions.

They did make significant changes in the show - though the primary plot is still very much there.

@#$%, I don't need the stress of figuring out con logistics two weeks before a con. I do need to up my stalking game though...

Wrapped up Hogfather. I couldn't think of much to say in my review, but it was a great book. The entire Death Discworld sub-series is turning out to be the best, hands down. I am now reading Thief of Time, the last one in the sub-series. After it I'll go find whatever short stories I've missed and call my reread done. I know I haven't touched Tiffany Aching, but her series always felt a bit... extra. Not true Discworld. I'll read it, but a little later into the year, after I catch up on some other novels I've been meaning to catch up on.

@#$%, that's a lot of questions. Like, "I am legitimately upset" lot of question. I am going to have to start traveling to cons, Chicago signings are no longer cutting it. Mark my words, you keep making me envious, you'll end up forcing me to following Brandon, from city to city, as he travels the US. Then I'll get served a restraining order, and we'll all be sad.

The Frenemies is pretty great, and so is the Kaladin valentine. Not that the rest are bad, but I love those the most.

10th anniversary Elantris end speaker (spoilers...kind of)
Argent replied to eszroth's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
If you do mind the spoilers, all you need to know is that she is a researcher who studies how magic works in the Cosmere. -
It's a Feruchemical metalmind, but for Allomancy. So no, not permanent (though there may be some side effects caused by holding this much power, we don't know).

Can't really go wrong with anything here.

Man, I am bad at updates. I did finish Reaper Man and World of Warcraft: Chronicle (Volume I), the two books I was playing with in my last update. The former was a solid book, but not an amazing one. Having finished Soul Music since then, I can see that it was setting certain things up, and it was doing it well, so I can't be too picky about it. And having mentioned Soul Music, it was great. I loved Mort because it felt more... epic, I suppose, than most of Pratchett's books, but I loved Soul Music because it was just so --ing clever. Just a great insight into music and the music industry (from a couple of decades ago). As for the Chronicle, it was worth the money. A lot of the content in it was already known to people with more than just a passing interesting in the history of Azeroth, but it did present things in a an organized fashion, it did canonize a few things the fandom has been unclear about it, and it did have some --ing good art. I am now reading Hogfather.

You should check the Quotes section on Goodreads for each book (e.g. https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/66322-mistborn

I wasn't aware there were different versions.

I was going to negotiate a personalization in which he reveals how the Aonic alphabet works in its fullest. Decided it may have been a tad too much.

Sooo... password-protected forum is fine, let's just make the password easily accessible to anyone with a copy of the White Sand manuscript. First word, last word, whatever.

When I first read Feist (over a decade ago), he quickly became my favorite author. Unfortunately, the quality of the books started dropping after the fourth or so, and never really picked up. I think I fell in love with the original cast of characters, so once they moved to the background and gave the spotlight to a new cast, I could never get attached to them in the same way. There are other problems I had with this colossal series too, but I'm afraid I might influence your opinion of it if I point them out, so I won't.

If it was not moving at all, its solar system would just leave it behind. You could get around this requirement too, but then you are just piling... not even justification, just plain excuses to make that theory work.

It's a bit of a game Brandon did for the release of Steelheart and brought back for the release of Firefight. When on tours for those books he would hand out or hide cards with codes, which when entered in a special page of his website, would unlock bonus content - art, previews, deleted scenes, things like that.

I am convinced that the ASoIaF fandom just doesn't have anything to do in the decades between books, so they overanalyze the same content over and over again.- 11 replies

Graphic Audio Adaptations Master Thread
Argent replied to Argent's topic in General Brandon Discussion
It's a really good story. Also, the snazzy Shardbearer is Dalinar according to the artist.
