  1. I've been telling people that it's research into how silver works in the cosmere, I think that's a worthy pursuit!
  2. Cakoban's fingers never capitalizes "fingers" in the text, but the chapter illustrations do (i.e. "Cakoban's Finger," as seen before chapters 14, 18, 47, and 54). I thought at first that the figure names might always capitalize, but none of the others ever do. So I think the Cakoban fingers ones shouldn't either. I also think that the text suggests that the name of the plant is always plural, but evidence is not 100% conclusive.
  3. Well, it was for Ed!
  4. I go to conventions!
  5. Apologies, busy week. Your accounts should now be merged.
  6. We can certainly merge your two accounts (or delete one). Which one do you want to keep?
  7. MFA will not become mandatory, no. The only change is in which login credentials you will (or, rather, won't) be able to use.
  8. EDIT: This change is now in effect. Quick but important announcement - as a security measure, starting with January 2, 2025, the forums / website will no longer allow people to log in using their username, only email. Once this change goes live, you will also receive an automated email whenever you haven't logged in for a few months, and someone (hopefully you) successfully logs into your account. If you've been logging in using your username, and are not sure which email you used for this account, you can check your account settings. We recommend everyone switch to logging in with email before the January 2 deadline.
  9. Yep, I'll take care of it!
  10. Should be good now, thanks for reporting this
  11. After a long hiatus, we’re back with another round of Coppermind objectives! Wind and Truth is just around the corner, so this list features several Stormlight articles, as well as many other articles that need work. There are a variety of ways in which you can help, so we hope you’ll join in! Whether you’re new to editing the Coppermind or an experienced editor, we’d love your help! If you’re new to the Coppermind, don't worry; we’ll provide you with whatever guides and assistance you need. You don’t need any prior experience, just a willingness to help out! Without further ado, here are our objectives for October and November. If you find something you'd like to help with, claim it here, and let us know if you have any questions! If nothing in the list below catches your eye, there are still plenty of other pages that need work, and we’re happy to help find a page to work on. If you sign up for something, please say hi on Discord so that we can offer support and touch base with you! Larger Projects Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them - we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew. 1. Shallan’s RoW History Despite Rhythm of War being out for almost four years, Shallan’s history section still needs to be updated with information from Rhythm of War. There’s a small paragraph summarizing the important events, but it definitely needs to be expanded. (Note: Pattern’s history also needs updating, and should be pretty similar, so you can also update his page if you want!) 2. True Desolation The True Desolation encompasses almost the entirety of the Stormlight books so far, so it’s a pretty important page. This page has lots of info about the lead-up to the True Desolation, but that’s about it. While working on this page might be a bit daunting, we’re happy to help you with formatting or finding information. 3. Waxillium Ladrian’s TLM History Although Wax is one of the most important characters in The Lost Metal, his history section pretty much stops after the events of The Bands of Mourning. While there’s a lot of info to go, through it should be pretty straightforward. 4. Frostlands The Frostlands make up the southeastern portion of Roshar, and are pretty significant. The page currently has very little information, and needs sections on major locations, history, and culture. This isn’t a huge project, but may require a good bit of research. 5. Spensa Nightshade’s Defiant History Spensa’s history section covers everything through the events of Cytonic, and just needs to be updated with the events of Defiant. While a sizable project, it’s a great objective for any Cytoverse fans! 6. Gongsha Town Gongsha Town is the small town in Torio where half of Yumi and the Nightmare Painter takes place. This page has almost nothing on it, so it would need to be updated with general information about the town’s layout, events, and culture. 7. Emuli Offensive The Emuli offensive is one of the main plotlines in Rhythm of War, and needs a lot of filling out. This page needs info on the background and lead-up, general history, and key moments. Smaller Projects These are objectives that won’t take as much heavy research and writing, and won’t take as long to do. Many of these may take some more careful digging, which can be made a lot easier if you have the ebook for the relevant book. 1. Getruda’s History Getruda is one of the minor antagonists in The Lost Metal, and pops up several times. Her page already has a good amount of general information, but her history section just needs to be fleshed out. 2. Envisagers The Envisagers were a group of people who tried to bring back the Knights Radiant, whom Teft’s parents were involved with. This page has most of the information already, it just needs a bit more details and a history section. 3. Azimir Azimir is the capital of Azir, and is one of the biggest cities on Roshar. This page has some general information already, but could use some more details and any information from Rhythm of War. 4. Beacon Beacon is the floating city from The Sunlit Man on which the Greater Good reside. This page has several sections already, but none of them have much information. This page needs many more details, as well as some citations for the info already on it. 5. Community The Community was the project designed by the Set to deceive the dozens of Allomancers they held captive. This page needs a lot more details, especially the descriptions and history of the project. 6. Steris Harms’s TLM History Steris played an important role in the events of The Lost Metal, though she doesn’t appear in as many chapters as some other characters. Her history section only covers the events of the first three books, and needs to be updated with info from The Lost Metal. 7. Battle of Narak The Battle of Narak takes place during the climax of Words of Radiance, and is one of the biggest battles in the series. This page could use some more details in the Battle section to flesh it out more. 8. Cinder King’s History The Cinder King is the main antagonist in The Sunlit Man, and his page already has some general information. His history section only contains details about his rule, and needs information about Nomad’s time on Canticle. 9. Dueling Arena The Dueling Arena is the arena where Adolin won his various Shardblade duels in Words of Radiance. This page could use more details in its Events section, detailing some of the more important bouts that occurred there. What’s in it for me? We want to motivate people to help, so we will be giving out Coppermind awards for every user who completes an objective, as well as awards to those who complete the most objectives during the next two months. These awards will then be proudly displayed on your user page for all to see. How do I start? The most important thing is to be bold! Content is hard to write, but we can always format your stuff if it doesn't quite match conventions. MediaWiki notation may appear scary at first, but the best way to learn is through experience. If you're interested, we have lots of guides to help: Help:Contents. It does help a lot to have ebooks so you can find instances of a specific word or person. (This is extremely helpful for minor characters). If you have physical books, ask us and we can help you find information so you don't need to reread the whole text. We can also direct you towards some good articles to use as a go-by. Come join us on the dedicated Coppermind Editing Discord, or come chat in the #coppermind channel on the 17th Shard Discord. We are really happy to help!
  12. The idea that Vin is slamming chunks of metal into the ground with bullet speeds, and she does it to move, is lowkey terrifying; Allomancers are scary. Love the animations and love the work put into it, visualizing Brandon's crazy book moments is some of my favorite stuff out there!

  16. The preview chapters for Wind and Truth, the final book in the first arc of The Stormlight Archive, are finally here! We expect a couple of chapters each Monday, 11 AM US Eastern Time, on Reactor (formerly Tor.com). You can use this thread as an index for where to find each chapter drop, where to find the discussion thread of each week's chapter(s), and also any supplementary materials Brandon might drop on us. If Discord is more your speed, you can use the #wat-spoilers and #wat-cosmere-mechanics channels there (but beware full cosmere spoilers). 17. Please avoid resurrecting inactive threads.
  18. TL;DR: Our monthly art commissions will no longer show up under the website's news, you'll need to look for them on our socials, Discord, or Patreon. Slightly longer story... hi, it's me, Argent, your friendly neighborhood "art director." I run our Patreon-funded monthly art commissions (if you don't know, we use a substantial chunk of our Patreon funds to commission fan artists to do fan art) - I come up with commission ideas, I find potential artists, I hire them, I direct the art, I write the image description, I schedule the art reveals. And that last bit, scheduling different posts for different places, that is unfun and takes a while (in part because I don't like saying just "here's the art", I want to say something about the piece or the artist). So I am cutting down on the number of places I'll be posting stuff - the commissions will still be happening, you just won't see them here. (In fact, that's already been the case for a few weeks now.) My plan is to continue putting them on Patreon, as public & free posts (you can just follow our account, no need to pay anything), and then crosspost that to our Discord's news channel and whichever social media website is no currently on fire (right now, X / Twitter is easy for me, but that might change). So that's just a quick PSA, in case you were wondering why art is no longer showing up in your news feeds here. Argent, out!
  19. The pre-launch page for the upcoming Stormlight RPG Kickstarter is now live! You visit it to get notified as soon as the campaign itself goes live on August 6, but Brotherwise Games - the company behind this project - revealed a few extra tidbits on Reddit and X, which we have collected for you here. For, we gotta start with the art, I mean, just look at this thing! This gorgeous original illustration by Ekaterina Burmak as just one of "hundreds of new illustrations from some of the industry's most talented artists," says Johnny O'Neal, co-founder of Brotherwise. Other little reveals include: The Stormlight RPG has been made in collaboration with Dan (Wells) and Brandon himself, so it is meant to be 100% canonical - including some brand new lore! The game system is an original one, created by an all-star team includes designers, writers, and editors for games such as Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, and Legend of the Five Rings The game will include - and launch with - a Handbook, a World Guide, and a hardcover adventure. Pledges for the campaign will start with PDFs, so backers on a budget will still be able to get their hands on all the material. Beta testing materials (which include detailed rules, character building tools, and a free introductory adventure) will be made available with the launch of the campaign Integration with VTTs (virtual tabletop simulators) is planned, and more details will be revealed closer to the launch of the Kickstarter Johnny revealed an updated character sheet, and also promises new information on less well-known singer forms, like relayform and nightform! More might show up in the comments of the Reddit announcement,so you can keep an eye on that if you'd like. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a half-Shin half Azish ex-ardent Edgedancer turned to Odium but then redeemed and reformed as a Stoneward who lives in Shadesmar to build...
  20. Here's hoping! Maybe he'll just post them on his website or something...
  21. A couple of days ago, on June 3, 2024, Brandon announced that he was officially done with Wind and Truth! The book still needs to go through proof- and copyedit, but at 491k words, Brandon's work is essentially done. And, coincidentally, preorders for the book in the US and Canada opened up a mere day later. Let's get into some details, shall we? First, here's the announcement from the man himself: If you are a little rusty on what this book is all about, here's the brief synopsis from McMillan's website: In the hours after the announcement, Peter Ahlstrom - Brandon's VP of Editorial, and long-time friend - jumped on Reddit to shed just a little more light into the state of things. First, it looks like the absolute physical limit for the book - for any book printed by Tor - is 1,344 pages. Which, given Brandon's average chapter length, and how much page space is taken up by headings and epigraphs, and how many interior illustrations there are, translates to just about... 489k words. Whoops, we are a couple thousand over the limit! This is all averages, Dragonsteel is going to find a way to massage things down a little bit, but that's pretty close to the wire. Other tidbits include the note that the book won't be split into two volumes in the US. Included in the 1,344 limit from earlier are 19 pages of art, and the book is the right length to tell the story Brandon wanted to tell. (Well, except he wanted to do a couple more interludes, but it looks like there won't be room for those.) If you are curious, this post outlines when different edits started, and what they all focused on. The book is planned to be done done by August 8. In other news, preorders - including some limited number of signed copies - are now available in the US and Canada: (though the signed copies appear to have disappeared already). Follow the link in the post above to check if your local bookstore will be carrying copies.
  22. Sunlit Man is fine - but Inquisitors are not Sunlit Man stuff, which is why this fits better in the Cosmere forum, where I am going to move this. If you are not fully caught up on the Cosmere and would like this moved back to the Sunlit Man, you can ask for that by reporting the topic - but then we'll ask that any non-Sunlit Man content be spoiler-tagged.
  23. It looks like you might be typing the recipient's username incorrectly. I can reproduce your error when I type @Chaos instead of just Chaos. You should be able to see this (not) working because typing just Chaos suggests a bunch of valid usernames from the dropdown I can select, but typing @Chaos suggests none.
  24. It looks like this thread may have been informed by some things revealed in the most recent Wind and Truth reading; let's make sure we are marking or tagging such content appropriately.
