  1. Mistborn era 3 is going to involve computer programmers, and Scadrial is supposed to be the most earth like. I think in future cosmere books we should be prepared for words like laptop and programming Mistborn era 4 is going to be a space opera, SP3 world absolutely has vending machines we could assume? Wayne basically invents organized sports in TLM. I don't think Brandon is going to invent new words for basically identifical technology everywhere in the scifi stuff and I don't want him to.
  2. And it wasn't a person with an ability like weaker or stronger detection of investiture, but a device
  3. I would assume it's limited by A] Availability of god metals B] knowledge/intent And I don't know if it would count as "allomantic burn" the same way that Hoid isn't a "lightweaver" in WoK. He does have something analogous. I think the possibility Brandon is trying to keep viable is that if you have shard metal and know what you're doing, you're able to take up that tiny bit, you're able to use that metals investiture
  4. "That it has realized that survival isn't necessarily the most important thing for it" Paleo In May, in Germany, you told me that... or I asked whether Wisdom was a Shard, and you said it was or something like it, and that wisdom was close to an intent of a Shard, and you also told me that it has realized that survival isn't necessarily the most important thing for it. I wanted to ask whether it has realized that over time or was it from the get go? Brandon Sanderson Over time. Paleo Okay, so then naturally, my next question: Is it the survival Shard? Brandon Sanderson RAFO. Paleo And then somebody actually came up with another good probable name. Is Prudence close? Brandon Sanderson Prudence sounds an awful lot like a Shard name. That's some excellent theorizing there. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/398/#e13231
  5. There's also a secret project spoiler for another potential identity of the survival shard
  6. Following this, could Brandon be pulling a fast one on us and the "Survival" shard be Harmony?
  7. Came here to also mention the "investing scadrial...investing *me* bit*
  8. Seems hard to believe that Harmony is beneficial to the South Scadrians because he remade the world to no longer fit their physiology
  9. Regarding Moonlight and time, this WoB may be relevant. Time is very likely going super slowly relative to outside in Elantris. Jeremy If vast amounts of Investiture can distort time in a similar manner as a black hole, [...] does that include Shards? Would time dilation be greater on Roshar than on Nalthis? Brandon Sanderson No, because the Shard is contained almost entirely in the Spiritual Realm. In the Spiritual Realm, time and distance have no meaning. So, what this means is: Large piles of Investiture that somehow make it into the Cognitive Realm or the Physical Realm are going to cause time dilation, but the Spiritual Realm—where it belongs—it's not going to do that. That's gonna make some exclamation points raise above the heads of some people. The Dusty Wheel Show (June 17, 2021)
  10. C'mon Brandon please just a crumb
  11. I kinda feel like Sazed can make harmonium and atium more or less at will but really doesn't want to, so used the explosion as an excuse to give Marsh more atium, and Wayne lerasium
  12. Nalthis, where just one little box can be a crime against humanity
  13. Word of Brandon about odium being gold, with red being instances of corrupted power for any shard, and odium does a lot of corrupting on Roshar. And when Odium shows up he's always white and gold, and his investiture is colored purple. Just pointing out that anything that isn't solely gold is a dubious indicator of Odium Like I get that this isn't enough to say "therefore it's CLEARLY not odium" especially because of odium is involved he's absolutely doing corrupting But also we'll know in 24 hours
  14. Odium is white and gold right? And also purple? Red being relevant to odium is very specific and limited. we also have a paragraph of info on Trell from era 1 that hasn't been brought up here as far as I can tell.
  15. Rampant speculation about the science bits of TLM previews guided a bit by how the Navani parts of RoW went. I think Wax's experiment is "polarizing" the ettmetal, and the explosion is caused by this changing ettmetal's intent creating Discordium which is even more explosive than Harmonium. It's possible that leaves behind a bit of atium, which is the "lost metal", because Sazed is unbalanced from having some Preservation invested in the people from Scadrial, Bits that started the speculation, mostly that it seems the cosmere science behind how Harmonium works is inspired by magnets. VenDell reinforcing that Harmonium can't be split because Sazed holds both shards, like how if you take a bar magnet that has two poles and if you split it in half is still a magnet - Wax saying Trellium's interactions with ettmetal and spikes reminds him of magnetism. I'm including this because it's thematically related if not strictly related, but could be important for Intent. The description of the polarization of ettmetal, it is becoming something else. This is likely just referring to the atium and lerasium appearance, but I think the fact that you can visibly distinguish the atium and lerasium bits is key to why it's changing to Discordium, the powers aren't working together. When the ettmetal is being separated by the Trellium, the separation is more than physical. It's like Navani and creating antilight, where intent matters. It isn't creating atium and lerasium though because Sazed holds both shards, but the intent is that they stop existing together, working together. Therefore it becomes Discordium, the powers are fighting. Inherently unstable, immediate explosion and the metals vaporize. From HoA when Sazed takes up both shards Words of Brandon about Discord, which is also referenced in HoA prophecy. I also think it's interesting that the powers fighting destroys, which Ruin wants to do anyways. It's a weird parallel to the imbalance of Preservation/Ruin to the Scadrial and Sazed. "His name shall be Discord, yet they shall love him for it.” They'd love him for it if it could be used to make great weapons that can stand up against the anti-investiture nukes in era 4. One additional note: The red ring around the planet, typically associated with corruption of intent, could be Autonomy/Trell's actions on Harmony, which has been speculated by many others, and which could be paralleled when the Trellium spike is used to force apart Harmonium. And then unhinged cremposting: The main conflict is two societies from the northern hemisphere of the planet, and the other is literally from the south pole (MAGNETS!) Also the well of ascension used to be at the geographic and magnetic North Pole, and Rashek moved the well and the magnetic north pole to Luthadel.
  16. It also could be MeLaan just kind of understating the degree of previous exploration, the way she seems to be understating the task she's about to start, presumably because she's more focused on Wayne right now? "oh worldhopping? Yeah I know nothing about it. Between planets or something anyways"
  17. I figured eventually they will have something more advanced that isn't a pen but yeah
  18. Quantum spren may just be a mechanism for FTL communication instead of transportation.
  19. Steris with the future seeing of preservation or cultivation...
  20. Can someone point me to where the 3rd continent on Sel has been talked about?
  21. Anyone else think that the next step in allomantic grenade evolution is ones that can be used more specifically? I'm thinking of the way we found out fabrials can be modified, changes to the cage and moving wires around can change the effects, making it programmable Maybe making a tineye grenade would give it the ability to turn on in response to an event/stimulus Who knows what the mechanism would be, but currently the mechanical allomancy is super basic.
  22. It's almost a certainty that whatever happened to Sigzil's spren and Sigzil taking up a dawnshard happened concurrently Based on the dawnshard story
  23. This makes me think about how what Lift asked for from cultivation really would go against cultivations intent?
  24. Could be that for some reason the heralds suspected that if they did have kids, that would result in their death and this could be about Chana and Helaran
  25. I think maybe this and the detail about it being something other people have a hard time doing with their works I think it's potentially about control over things like art design. I'm speculating that it has to do with the herald portraits at the beginning of chapters. Lots of people have linked or tried to link portraits to events in chapters. I think this is probably the best hint of something other people can't do that he can, and it appeared in the same thought as the death rattles that are most frequently seen as epigraphs
