Could multiple people hold a Shard at once? [Discuss]
Eternal Khol replied to Cocoa's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Id say thats pretty much what an Avatar is. Maybe not as directly tied together/linked as you're examples, but it should still count. in fact, Brandon has said that its plausible that someone could Ascend using the splinter/power that is the Avatar(you would have to get rid of the Avatar's preexisting personality though) -
White Sand Omnibus Cover & Release Date!
Eternal Khol commented on LewsTherinTelescope's article in Brandon and Book News
Will it be worth it if i already have the 3 novels? An arcanum and one additional chapter(and probably just more faces in clouds) doesnt really seem like itll be worth whatever they are gonna charge for it. they should price it off the new content only. 85% will be the same *cough* "cash grab" *cough* -
Good catch! I dont think its coincedental. I noticed the shades similarity to Nightblood too and have unsuccessfully been looking for an answer for years lol... the best ive come up with is that both Shades and Nightblood drain the people they feed on.... which i think we all knew already XD Threnody is kind if special and weird, and it makes me think that using silver on Shades and to reverse shade damadge might be unique. i dont think weve seen nightblood interact with silver at all have we? Even while drawn.

Unanswered questions and Obscure details from RoW
Eternal Khol replied to KaladinWorldsinger's topic in Stormlight Archive
I dont think he's neccesarily lying. I think it might be like the Atium/Preservation situation There is a WoB that one could reproduce an ability like Atium using the power of Preservation, but it wouldnt be as easy or natural as using Preservation for Allomancy. i think the same thing goes for Odium. He prob could grant/create an ability like Adhesion, but it would probably require him to apply his power in a way he wouldnt like. Syntax is just like... the way you spell things. The name Axindweth, its makeup is verrry Terris. -
aether Reguarding the Aethers [AoN spoilers]
Eternal Khol replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Amberite was actually always described as a rose(y) color. Which if you look up the actual Rose color hex triplet(#FF0080) it really is a pink. -

Its a old WoB, but Brandon stated that Microkinesis no longer functions after the Shattering. -
aether Reguarding the Aethers [AoN spoilers]
Eternal Khol replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think Verdant will stay a thing. In one WoB(2018), someone asked about the different manifestations of Investiture(solid, liquid and gas) and if we would see Investiture plastic or wood(other forms besides the 3), and then Brandon brings up the Aethers and said "what do you call the Aethers? Those are not metal" and also mentions "the vine ones" specifcally not being metal. -
Thats a good theory. I made a post with similar ideas about them being less aware due to being pulled into the physical realm. You should check it out Brandon has also said(iirc) that Shades are the way they are because there isnt a Shard in residence
-
Are you talking about the unpublished novel? or the 3 future aether books he has planned?(that are mentioned in State of the Sanderson 2019 and arent Aether of Night) I just checked the state or the sanderson(this year and last) and there is literally one mention of Aether( and it didnt say the book was canon) Also, I know there are a couple WoB where Brandon said that Aether of Night could be canonized pretty easily, but he never actually said he was doing it.
-
Brandon has said that the Aethers have spread to multiple planets by now, so its possible. Also, we dont even know if theyre from Yolen still. Last time they were used there was like 14 years ago in an unpublished work. Souce? did you mean the magic or the book?

Looking for advice. Any Linux users?
Eternal Khol replied to Eluvianii's topic in General Discussion
There might be ways to access the main partition for games, but as i understand it, it would just be a lot easier to keep your games on the linux partition, so i would just allocate however much space you think youll need for all your games. -
Im of the mind that picking up the Shard healed him. We know that if done fast enough, after death you can be healed and return to your body and still be alive/yourself and not be a Shadow(Wax as you pointed out) It makes sense. Regular methods of healing and medecine(and what not) apply to/work in the Cosmere too. Its not like the only way to bring someone back is through magic/Investiture or that theyll end up a Shadow or just be off, like Szeth. If someones heart just stopped, regular methods like CPR should work too if done fast enough(not letting the body die from lack of oxygen, etc...) My point is... that after someone dies there should be a few minute or so window that they can be brought back and still be fully alive with ties to all 3 realms and not be a Shadow or anything. We also know that time moves differently in the place(visions and what not) that Taravangian was when he died and Ascended. While in the Vision, those events(his "death" and Ascension) happened within a minute of each other. Which in the Physical realm wouldve most likely been just a few seconds(or even just a second). Thats just a few seconds(well within the few minute window) from the time Taravangians heart stopped beating to the time that he was infused with an "infinite" source of Investiture(which i assume would naturally heal him and his VERY recent loss of Connection to the physical realm) also, Taravangian didnt leave a body behind in the Physical Realm but Rayse did...? Nightblood only feeds on the user if he's not getting enough Investiture elsewhere. Im certain(with what weve seen)that the Vessel of a Shard is more than enough to keep Nightblood from feeding on his user. So Taravangians body missing couldnt really be explained by being eated by Nightblood Nightblood also didnt even eat all of Rayse(his corpse/skeleton was left behind), so i doubt he wouldve ate Taravangians body and left nothing behind. where is Taravangians body then, you ask? its with him.

This ↑ Also, I just though there maybe could be purely spiritual realm beings that could exist though. Back when The Rithmatist was supposed to be in the Cosmere, Shadowblazes were meant to be purely Spiritual Realm beings that got pulled into the physical realm. Brandon has said that there are things in the Cosmere that exist purely in the spiritual realm(though he didnt specify what or even if they are some kind of beings)
-
Well, a persons spiritual aspect is just their spiritweb. And we know, from Brandon, that after someone has died there is still an "imprint" or their spiritweb in the spiritual realm for a long time. so... yeah id say there is an "imprint" of people in the spiritual realm. Or are you asking if that imprint would somehow have a consciousness like a cognitive shadow? Cause i dont think it would.

Interesting bit of info about Aethers from a new WoB
Eternal Khol replied to LewsTherinTelescope's topic in Aether of Night
Ive been wondering if Yolen is still going to be their native planet? Its seems like, through various vague(and rather old) WoB, that after Brandon decided to try out the Aethers in LoP that those plans were never really nixed Also, in a Shardcast interview from January this year Brandon talks about Dragonsteel prime being released for the next kickstarter and whats canon from it and what isn't, and then he just randomly cuts to talking about the Aethers and how he started figuring out how he wants them to function and what not... kinda sus edit 12/11/2021: Another exiting tidbit about the Aethers! Seems to be a confirmation that the Aethers still are intented to be Pre-Shattering magics. And the fact that people could even see them as being as powerful as Hoid is intriguing. Up till now i thought they werent gonna be that powerful(and the fact that they claim to be at Shardic levels!) Because they arent location bound like Aviar i thought they wouldnt be as powerful either like Aviar are. I mean, theyre obviously more powerful than Aviar from what little we known of them, i guess i just underestimated them. I guess i see now why Brandon calls them a core magic system Though I guess potentially being around since before the Shattering, being sapient, not being location bound and actually being the magic itself(and the knowledge that comes with it) really puts them up there in terms of knowledge and power ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ XD Ive absolutely love the Aethers since AoN and it seems that theyre shaping up to possibly be my favorite magic system. -
Interesting bit of info about Aethers from a new WoB
Eternal Khol replied to LewsTherinTelescope's topic in Aether of Night
@LewsTherinTelescope I just saw the new Aether WoB that you asked and uploaded. Its pretty interesting. I always love new stuff on the Aethers. So, Aethers are a multiple planet thing like speculated and it seems theyll be sapient like we saw in the LoP sample vs. what they were in AoN. i wonder what systems theyve worked there way into? And why they claim to not be from any world? -
Nightwatcher (and Cultivation) boon and curse discussion
Eternal Khol replied to Vin(Diesel)'s topic in Stormlight Archive
Im of the mind that Cultivation knew exactly what she was doing. She was smart enough to set up what she did, im sure she wouldnt be stupid enough to overlook the fact that Ascending to godhood would give Taravangian grander ambitions.- 10 replies

Question about the Aon chasm line
Eternal Khol replied to Cocoa's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Brandon did give a good explanation. Its not that every Aon is just Aon Aon repeated. The rule is they just have to have Aon Aon as a base. So you would only have to include the initial Aon Aon(that has the chasm line). Relevant WoB: -
I see you're new here. Welcome to the Shard! Yes, you can download the different versions on Brandons website(Versions 1-6.) The only change logs are from V1-2 and V1-6 but i guess you just download and compare versions if you dont want to see the changes from earlier versions Heres the link: https://www.brandonsanderson.com/warbreaker-rights-and-downloads/#versions

To specify a little more on the title, ive have not been able to really get into MB Era 2. The transition to a new cast of characters and practically new world definitely throws me off but i think the majority of it is my lack of care for the metallic arts... in the current era. I mean theres nothing wrong with the metallic arts, theyre real solid magic systems that have the groundwork to do great things in the future of the Cosmere.... But there just isnt any real exitement when i think of them. When i think of like... any other magic system i think of fantastical feats, mysticism, obvious displays of the magic(soulcasting, aon dor), vibrancy(breath), etc.. And when i think of the Metallic Arts im just like "oh.... thats practical... has some real practical applications. Pushing metal through the air... yeah..." Like i dont even really see Allomancy&Feruchemy as magic systems anymore.at this point theyre just tools like a wrench. Granted they are the tools that will build/power FTL spaceships eventually, but still just tools. From what we've already seen to what Brandon has told us/hinted about what future applications of the magic will be like to what weve theorized on... it just feels like there isnt a whole lot of mystery or intrique left in the Metallic Arts. I think also a big part is that era 2 maybe feels a little too "earth-like" and "current" for me and the magic just seems wrong in a more industrialized, technological, up-to-date society. Should i just push through it and read them anyway? Is the story/characters of era 2 worth it regardless of not liking the magic?

This is a bit off topic but... I wonder if two Shards(Honor and Cultivation) working together and sharing their every move and intent would be enough to over come the future sight vs future sight problem. Because the reason you cant see someone elses future(whos seeing it too) is because what they do isnt definite. Its always changing based off what they see in the future too... But what if Honor and Cultivation were to share everything important they foresaw and how they were going to act on that information, could they work toward a common goal(defeating odium) without largely disrupting each others future vision?
-
I didnt mean other Shards cant see the future, just that Odium and other "bad" Shards are the ones most likely to grant future sight to people or have it in their magic system(voidbinding) Odium(having an agenda when it comes to other Shards) probably relies on future sight more than say....Whimsy . And that would probably reflect throughout his systems(the unmade, voidbinding, etc...) and anytime anyone sees the future it interferes with anyone else seeing the future too, regarless if they are using different Investiture(Honor vs Odium) to see the future. Renarins abilities should still have messed with Honor's future sight if he was alive. Odium, the Unmade, Voidbinding, and probably Cultivations own future sight even would have messed with Honors future sight.
-
While its possible, I dont think it was any of those reasons. Brandon has said that anytime anyone is seeing the future in the Cosmere they are in "dangerous territory"/whatever path to future sight is dangerous. He didnt finish his sentence but he continued to bring up Shards after the "dangerous territory" comment I took that to mean that its pretty much only the "bad/evil" Shards that allow/have magic systems with future sight.(Ruin, Odium, Dominion) it would make sense, these Shards tend to have agendas and probably rely on future sight more than other Shards, and it reflects in their magic systems and what not Questioner So voidbinding is-- one part of voidbinding is seeing the future. And atium is also seeing the future. And I notice annotations for Elantris, you said something about seeing the future could go weird-- sends assassins. Is that a running-- Brandon Sanderson It is a running theme in the cosmere. And it's-- Whatever path you take to do it is dangerous in the cosmere. It's kind of a sign of-- You are in dangerous territory, and drawing upon a Shard that is-- Questioner Potentially... Brandon Sanderson Potentially-- Yes. I mean to say-- Dangerous territory. Salt Lake City signing (Dec. 16, 2017)

I just assumed it was Cultivation. there could only be a few beings that could do that and Cultivation is a prime candidate IMO the Nightwatcher is likely too.

WoB is that there are a few Spren on Scadrial(specifically in Shadesmar) and if anyone could get a Spren there, im willing to bet it would be the Ire.
