  1. It seems rather clear that Sig will hold a Dawnshard at some point. Having the same affliction as Hoid. Mentioning it as "An after-effect of the burden he’d once carried, the thing that had given him his Torment"
  2. It seems, to me, at least, that Auxiliary is the Knight. At least it seems like they're being referred to that way?
  3. Spoilers for sp#4 The character of the story is Sigzil!!!! Updates as I read: - Sigzil is hiding from the "night brigade" wonder if they have anything to do with the so called Dust Brigade of Threnody - does Sigzil now have the same affliction as Hoid? Using weapons/fighting isn't something he seems to be able to do - is Auxiliary a deadeye?!?! Or "revived" deadeye - I think Sig just admitted to being on Ashyn before. He was on the "Flying cities near his homeland" that's gotta be Ashyn
  4. Someone will have to confirm, but I think even If you were to only pledge like $1 in the kickstarter now, you should still get access to the backerkit store when it opens in a little over a week, which should give you a couple more weeks
  5. Kind of. After the kickstarter ends on the 31st, the backer kit store will open for some time. I'm not sure if it'll be another month, but that sounds about right. Now, the backerkit store is only available to those who backed the kickstarter while it was running(I think any amount should give you access, not just the specified tiers) In the backerkit store, there will be a few options, such as the option to add on only the swag boxes or physical books
  6. its been a while since i read it so i made a mistake. It wasnt Slaughter and Despair I was thinking of. it was actually the Former but, I didnt mean the magic gave me Slaughter and Despair vibes. it was the way the spirit was described by Yumi. it just reminded me of how the Former was described in Aether of Night.
  7. you know, I was feeling that too. The spirit that talks to Yumi very much gave me trapped Slaughter/Despair vibes. i don't necessarily think it'll be them, but maybe he drew inspiration from them
  8. Its perfect that you said that, because its something that ive kinda been thinking, i just didnt know how to put it into words! The Aethers could totally be using people like Aviar. Thats kinda the direction i was aiming when i was talking about them "expanding" through the bond
  9. Honestly, im more interested in the implications it has for the Aethers themselves. like, if they bond many people is it like... expansion... almost, for them? Theyre bonding/attaching a piece of their soul to many people, and we know that these types bonds do benefit both parties. So what do the Aethers get out of it? what trove of information couldve been gleaned over 10,000 years or more just from having so many bonds with so many different souls over all that time? Like we know that Spren intuitively know some things about their Radiant even though they werent bonded when said events happened. But the thing is, the Aethers are next level. They seem more powerful, less bound/restricred and more ancient. Who knows what they can do with that.
  10. Brandon just mentioned in the livestream last night that the Aethers will run on "the same basic principles" as in Aether of Night and that AoN is "close to canon" He did however mention that one big tweak he made is that many people will now bond a single "core" Aether. im imagining it being pretty much like how we see the Verdant source in Aether of Night and thats where Verdant Aethers come from. Brandon just tweaked it so that the Verdant(or whatever aether) pieces taken from the source stay connected with the core Aether. Some other info on them/the world - the planets name is "lumar" - The twelves different "moons" are Aethers that Brandon imagines are positioned like a d12 dice around the planet. -The spores/oceans are indeed different colors and different colored spores do different things(cause they are different aethers) - the people who actually bond Aethers are being called "Aether Bound"(not sure if its one word or hyphenated or what) - Lumar's Aethers are a different "strain" and are "doing something else" than the other. Whatever that means.
  11. This made me so happy, i just had to share with yall. I was thinking, and with all of Brandons upcoming projects(secret projects 1-4, stormlight 5, the lost metal) and the few works ive been saving to read(all of Era 2) im gonna be able to read a new Sanderson novel(at least new to me for Era 2) every 3 months for the next 2 years!!! If i start Era 2 now and finish Alloy of Law by April, ill be able to read Shadows of Self and Bands of Mourning over 3 months each(thats perfect for me as im the type who usually reads half or so of the book and sets it down for a month... even a year sometimes XD) and ill finish Bands of mourning right around the time The lost Metal comes out!(i knew it was a good idea to save Era 2 for something special lol) This should be my schedule for the next few years!!(not including any other novellas or short stories he might surprise us with in that time) March 2022: Alloy of Law April - June 2022: Shadow of Self July- September 2022: Bands of Mourning October - Dec 2022: The lost Metal(November 15th) January - March 2023: Tress of the Emerald Sea April - June 2023: Secret Project 2 July - September 2023: Secret Project 3 October - December 2023: Secret Project 4 October 2023 - March 2024(estimate): Stormlight Archive book 5 Summer 2024(estimate): Dragonsteel Prime(part of WoR 10th anniversary kickstarter)
  12. Thats was my though too reading that part. i was just commenting this on reddit lol Im really wondering what their history is and how involved in shattering history they are. If at all. The Aethers are apparently pre-shattering, and with how much were learning about them its really starting to seem like they are Important, on a Cosmere scale. they will also play a "very large" role in space age Cosmere which i believe(through various WoB) Era 4 will connect back to the Shattering/its mechanics/history in a large way, so im wondering if there is a connection there. Or if the WoB just mean that easy to access magic like Aethers will be important in the space age or the Aethers themselves
  13. It might not be called such anymore but its still cool to see that Night is still a thing in one form or another. im only assuming though from mentions of the "Midnight sea" and "Sea of Night" and how we know its called Verdant & the Verdant sea so the Midnight/Night sea must also be the Midnight or just Night aether
  14. i think this is the most likely answer the Kandra population was never actually that large. Even mistwraiths were considered myth/folktale to most of the general populace(iirc?) Then the world literally began burning before sazed took the power. He notes how trees started to just catch fire. Any Mistwraiths roaming the Empire wouldve been burned alive. The remaining Mistwraiths in the caverns wouldve had their spikes restored and its not like the Kandra would just want to pull out their spikes again to be Mistwraiths... so the Mistwraiths pretty much disappeared entirely after the remaking of the world.
  15. Brandon has stated that some, in the Cosmere would call a Avatar a Splinter, but the difference, according to him is that a Splinter is like... cut off from the Shard pretty much. Its not actually considered part of that Shard anymore. That Splinter literally splintered off from the Shards power and is separate now. So while Spren, as Splinters were once Honor's(or Cultivation or Odiums) Investiture, they arent Honor. He couldnt just use that power to do what he wished. An Avatar on the other hand, is the Vessel manifesting a piece of itself somewhere. Its not actually breaking off from the Shard. The Vessel is still Connected to it and has control over that power/being. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/467/#e14744 I'm thinking that the perpendicularity didn't form until Autonomy started messing around there/Patji started manifesting.
  16. Thats a good theory, but I believe the you misunderstood the quoted WoB. I always read that snippet as Brandon was explicitly talking about Returned(& probably Nightblood)and what they can feed on. Not that Awakening can be done with any investiture. The beginning of the WoB also talks about Returned before the part you linked and like literally right after the end of the snippet you included, the next words were something along the lines of "consuming your own soul in some cases" Like a Returned that doesnt feed and consumes their soul/Divine Breath. Brandon also goes on to say that the "easiest" way to awaken with Stormlight would be to "refine" the power somehow(probably strip it of Identity and Connection)or to change your spiritweb(hemalurgy and the like). I think the same would probably go for the Dor. They're not that different overall. I like it, but i feel like Awakening already has so many possibilities that having it being able to be fueled by basically any Investiture, natively, without any hacking, would be a little overkill. i could be wrong though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  17. yeah thats pretty much what happened. The Taravangian part we cant only speculate on but i agree with what you said and the evidence seem to support it. Theres a couple good WoB that puts good context in to how it works and we can infer some stuff. Brandon has stated that if, in that moment while he was talking to Harmony while "dead", Wax couldve been infused with Investiture and made a Cognitive Shadow. But instead, Sazed heals his body and brings him back. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/451/#e14473 Just like in the real world, in the Cosmere, when people die they can do CPR or use regular medicine(since its the Cosmere that includes magical methods) to bring them back to life(in those 7 minutes or so that their body still has oxygen). If brought back fast enough they wont be a Shadow. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/260/#e8758
  18. Yeah, i was thinking maybe they were corrupted with Odiums power. I mean they are obviously corrupted. Their eyes turn red and Brandon said that when he uses red for eye color or spren its a sign of corruption. the question is, whose power are they of orginally? and whos power did the corruption?
  19. Thats been my theory a few years. That its fain. Or some type of fain Shadow. i was exited when Brandon recently stated that Fainlife has made it off Yolen in "significant" ways(i think i made a post about it and ambition/the evil about a month ago) so Its ever so slightly backed by that fact.
  20. I just thought of a easy explanation of why Shards get tied to loactions. Let me know what you guys think! Premise: Investiture is "self" Shards are everything in the Cosmere. All energy, matter, etc... is them. Any direct creation or investment done by them is just effectively making them a body. And just like a human mind/soul is tied to its physical body. A Shards self is tied to its "body"(whatever they've created/invested) in the physical That means,as an example, that Scadrial was/is the literal body of Ruin and Preservation. And whenever they were in the Physical/cogntive realm doing work(as Shards reside mostly in the Spiritual) they were tied to their body just like a human is. To leave they would have to destroy their body(which was exactly RuinAti's plan before he died)
  21. It definitely could be. Im pretty sure it doesnt last longer, the Singers just dont really leak investiture like humans do, so the Investiture last longer in them. if you gave a singer and human the same amount of Stormlight, the singer should be able to make it last longer
  22. Yeah, i think so too. Brandon has stated that in the future, we are going to be seeing "a lot" more of the Venli Willshapers and not as much of the regular ones. I bet the same might go for some other orders too. RoW spoilers?
  23. Yeah, i know. I think that was just the conclusion everyone else came to(that it made the bone flexible) I dont think Breath takes it that far? Do they? as long as its in human shape.... a phatom with their head or arm on backwards is still shaped into a human. Right? Exept their a magic construct who should be able to do things a human with real muscles couldnt. im not expexting a lot, but i think a little more flexibility from these unalive magically created beings isnt outside the realm of possibility. Im not saying itll be built into their commands to like... have 360 degree joints unlike a human could, but if a phantom were in battle i do think they should have a little more room in how they could turn their head or arms. if the Breath really is a "magical sinew" thats the only thing holding the bones together. Then it should be able to move whichever way its wants. On the other hand, Breath does try to aproximate life and it does act as a sinew, so i imagine it would also try to act like human sinew/ligaments holding bones together and wouldnt only let them bend/turn as much as a human could. Yeah, I think I know which ones youre talking about. Im still gonna call it free though lol Did you misquote the water awakening WoB? Im s little confused about how that one was relevant.
  24. A month or so ago i remember seeing a post on here(or maybe on reddit)musing about how Kalad's Phantoms move, and i think the general consensus was that the Breaths made the bone/rock flexible or something so the Phantoms could l move?(if anyone remembers feel free to correct me) im on a journey reading old WoB looking for hints or stuff about things that are just now happening in the Cosmere and came across this old WoB that talks about the Phantom's and states that they have areas carved in the rock for the joints and that the Breaths acted as "magical sinew" holding the different pieces together. Thats pretty crazy... using Breath as a magical glue pretty much. I guess thats what i always thought. I mean, something is holding the Phantoms together. Its just cool to know now. If its like a sinew, then that should make the Phantoms as agile as a person, or even more so because they would be able to turn there head or limbs 360 degrees. Really puts them a step higher on how dangerous they are(or how i imagined them to be at least.) On a un-Phantom related topic, i also came across a WoB that states that one Nalthis country is using Awakened machinery(for free energy) which is really awesome and something i hope we get to see in Nightblood.
