  1. I really like this! It makes sense for surgebinding to be the magic native to Ashyn and the gemheart/fabrial magic native to Roshar. Excellent deduction!
  2. IIRC inquisitors are classified as constructs. I would guess that the line between human and construct is a question of “are the physiologically changed” So a spike that grants a power (like steel) would not necessarily create a construct but one that steals physical strength (iron) would.
  3. Thanks for the responses, I’m kinda at a point where I don’t know what I don’t know so I’ll just hope the question is answered in the next two years.
  4. I think duralumin fueled electrum would be your best bet. (Sorry if this counts as necroing I’m not really sure what the threshold is).
  5. I was reading the coppermind page and wasn’t terribly pleased with the amount of info. Is there any speculation on the what and why of the spiritual realm that wouldn’t make it to the coppermind, or is it just a mystery to everyone? Please enlighten me if you can.
  6. Well shoot, guess I should read more carefully before posting
  7. No more discussion needed this is correct Edit: though this is an excellent addition You know how to really up the game? Being a post Reod Elantrian that’s spiked with a Blessing of Presence. That way you can’t go insane! No respite for you, no no no. You’re going to be aware and conscious every moment of the day as the pain just keeps getting worse and worse . I know, I’m a sadist.
  8. Not a thing so much as a mental image but The horror on a parents face and hilarity that ensues when their toddler discovers that he is metalborn. Rioting to get cookies, flaring pewter to actually beat dad at wrestling, tapping copper and quoting exactly what was promised to them if they behave.
  9. Im kinda with @Karger on this one. I don’t think he is a full shard, but I would not be surprised he he holds the left over bits and pieces of Adonalsium.
  10. I’ve always assumed that not being able to push on metals in a body and not being able to push on invested objects are two different things. You can’t push (easily) on metals inside a personbecause of some sort of hemalurgical interference. edit: to answer the original question I think it would be no easier to push on metal in a drab
  11. Kelsier ascended to ruin instead of preservation
  12. Sazed described compounding as creating a new allomantic metal that only you can burn. Thus a compounding savant would be an allomantic savant, not a feruchemical.
  13. That’s right, thanks guys. My confusion was that I was thinking Ishar was windrunners and Jezerian was bondsmiths. Side note, I don’t recall a defaced statue. I remember a missing one, but I had assumed that had something to do with Jasnah’s soulcasting. Edit: I was mistaken I just opened up my copy and it is Shalash that is missing.
  14. But I think that’s what the question is? How long did it take for her decide not to go back? I was suggesting that it was hours at most.
  15. We know that the drunk Dalinar occasionally hangs out with during his rougher years is a Herald, but which one? I’d always assumed he was Ishar but I just read that Ishar is the god-king of the whatever nation on the coppermind.
  16. I would bet on hours. Certainly not days, but I find it highly unlikely it was minutes. IIRC the prelude described a pretty small area where everything was going down.
  17. I think that deep down all of them were so broken they went along with it pretty quick. I don’t have evidence, just a hunch. She definitely regretted it though with all her destruction of the heralds religious stuff.
  18. Brandon says Shallan closet to the second one (I asked him at a signing) IIRC he also said KAL-a-din and se-ZETH. I (unintentionally) have been saying Sadeas as two syllables with a very similar sound to sadist
  19. I’d like to add a synopsis to the comparison between the ardent and Nazh. the only thing we for sure now about the ardent is that he is short, though I would argue that there is a strong implication that he is darkeyed due to the way Brandon describes him. as far as Nazh goes all we have is “lanky” but the rosharian gravity is .7 standard leading to taller individuals. As far as I know we don’t have a gravity for therondy (nazh’s home world) but if we assume it’s a standard 1.0 it would imply Nazh is shorter than the rosharian average
  20. That’s fair, I’ll try to remember in the future
  21. They have no instant communication. They’re in a weird place with what tech is developed Questioner(paraphrased) People are going crazy wondering if there are telegraphs and telephones in Alloy of Law. Are there? And if not, why? Brandon Sanderson(paraphrased) There are not yet. And the reason why is because they haven’t needed them yet. Necessity is the, what the fuel of invention? Audience Member(paraphrased) The mother of invention Brandon Sanderson(paraphrased) Yes, the mother of invention, and they have messengers who run, Coinshots who are very fast. They also basically don’t need to go outside the City, and haven’t for a long time. They’re close, but they haven’t invented them yet for the same reason that they have very poor navigation techniques. Why do you need to ship anything or sail anywhere when you have some idyllic paradise to live in? And you have allomancers, who in some ways are preventing from achieving that next level, because a Coinshot can get it there really fast, and so you’re only waiting a few minutes for them to come back with your message, so it can actually stifle a little bit of technology by having a not-quite-as-good magical solution. West Jordan signing (Dec. 15, 2011)
  22. At a different (I believe earlier) time he comments on them being relatively rare. I don’t remember where exactly in the books both comments are, but I remember noticing it on my first read and pinpointing it on the next. I think the one about them being common is was in reference to criminals though. i.e. more coinshots turn to crime than tineyes Edit: upon further consideration I believe it was in BoM while talking about his status as one of only three crashers ever born.
  23. IIRC they can. While Vin is training with Moash she mentions that she can feel Kelsier beneath them. Granted Vin is a special case but Moash didn’t comment on it.
