Is there a black hole at the center of the cosmere?
Elsecaller_17.5 replied to Ripheus23's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I can’t think of any reason it wouldn’t work, and it just help with the implausibility of them just being to next to each other. Maybe as the ultimate source of investiture Adonalsium could be this black hole. His corpse a physical one and residual investiture pulling in other systems with investiture present. -
Preservation and Odium. Name: momma bear.

First off I don’t like faster then light travel. It breaks to many rules and I’d rather see near light speed travel, but I also don’t see how bendalloy would achieve either effect. It has to have a way to anchor a bendalloy bubble on it self but that requires a bendalloy savant, massive amounts of bendalloy and/or harmonium, and a bubble big enough to fit a space ship in. It just doesn’t make sense. But there’s another metallic ability that could do the same thing but better. The reason light goes so fast is because it’s massless making it take no energy to accelerate f-iron has the effect of reducing weight. I suspect that near light speed travel will be achieved by using f-iron to drastically lighten spacecraft and occupants so relatively minuscule amounts of energy can propel them to otherwise impossible speeds. What do y’all think?

I had been thinking a dead blade, but that’s definitely a valid point. The versatility and immediate summon would count for a lot.

She’s bonded a spren, so I’m pretty sure she qualifies as a KR, probably doesn’t matter too much though I doubt she’s many’s favorite
-
I think it’s pretty cut and dry in favor of Plate. Half of me wants to see who agrees and the other half wants convincing arguments for the Blade. As for my arguments, Blade provides you with the ultimate offense and Plate with the ultimate defense. But plate also gives you super-strength which allows you to wield massive bows (attack at a range) or massive hammers (which are just as good as a Blade in a warfare situation).

Gotta go with Renarin, from what little we’ve seen I love the truthwatchers (though stump does appear to be missing).
-
I like it I really do and I’d be surprised if elements of the theory weren't accurate, but I wish there was more evidence. I may need to give SoS and BoM a reread. Do we know much about any other Terrismen that could be candidates for a Set recruiter?

That’s a fair point, I hadn’t considered the density of the breaths in the mass. I did some math and research for fun and I think a decent breath to pound ratio for nightblood would be 500:1 while Azure would be closer too 14:1 making her breath density about 1/36 of nightbloods probably enough to make any resistance not count for much in combat.
-
That’s wonderful for the theory though. It would make Azure 200% immune to Shardblades.
-
I would assume that Azure is more invested. A knight radiant has there natural investiture plus whatever stormlight they’re holding. Azure has her natural investiture times (probably) at least 2000. We can make a pretty good comparison I think between Metalminds and awakened objects iirc we have WoB that both would result a Shardblade. If she has the same number of breaths within her I believe she would resist a Shardblades wound similarly. Edit: found the WoB, it doesn’t support the theory, but not does it disprove it. I’d still bet it acts like a metalmind (as per the second WoB). mycoltbug Would a Breath imbued object stop a Shardblade? Brandon Sanderson RAFO. 17th Shard Forum Q&A (Sept. 26, 2012) Questioner How many smacks would it take from a Shardblade to break, say, a metalmind. Brandon Sanderson A metalmind? Depends on how much it's invested. Shadows of Self Portland signing (Oct. 10, 2015) Edit # 2: yet another thought (I’m apparently full of ideas today) nightblood can block a shardblade, so a object awakened with 10,000 breaths is 100% immune to Shardblades so maybe 2,000 breaths would give you a 20% resistance.

I think at this point the question is “is a Chekhov’s gun the unused item or the used item?” that first example of the gun hanging on the wall it just says that it should be fired, without specifying which future action or inaction makes it a “Chekhov’s” gun. Regardless I don’t think it matters to much and we can all agree that Brandon rarely if ever draws attention to something needlessly.

Do we know any of the specific spren that listeners bond with? i.e. a windrunner bonds with honor spren and warform bonds with ____ and envoyform bonds with ____.
-
I do the same thing! Not that specific one, but I definitely have head canon that contradicts the facts.
-
@Karger I’ll agree that it’s appropriate it a lot of movies, and @Harrycrapper my understanding is that the proverbial gun never comes off the shelf. I honestly can’t thunk of a single example from Brandon.
-
1. I don’t agree with the concept of a Chekhov’s Gun. It makes the world more immersive and real. Not everything has to be essential to the story. 2. Brandon does avoid those a lot. He almost always ties stuff in, you just have to look for it. 3. That example is not a Chekhov’s Gun. Dalinar not having a Shardblade is a huge deal. He’s one of the greatest warriors in all of Roshar and his fighting ability has been largely compromised.

I’ve seen that comment as when he met Cultivation he changing from Odium to Honor, while I agree that young Dalinar shard holder would be terrifying I think that would be closer to Odium-Ruin mashup. I love the idea of Retribution. Edit: In the right vessels hands, Dalinar or Kaladin would do great, Moash would destroy the world.
-
I just want someone for Kaladin. Right now I’d pick Jasnah but I’m not 100% set on her. I can say I DO NOT want Shallan (because Shallan x Adolin rocks) or Syl (because to me they have a sort of uncle and niece relationship and that would be gross).

I’ve been wondering about where the Intent rule applies and where it doesn’t and I just can’t figure it out. Obviously it does when creating hemalurgic spikes, that’s the classic example. But Kaladin and other Knights Radiant start to use there powers instinctively, so no Intent. The big thing I’m looking at and can’t figure out is Spook getting his spike. For those that don’t recall a dude stabbed him through another dude and the tip of the sword broke off. I know the guy was being influenced by Ruin, but all the lines seem very fuzzy (pun intended).

Did Renarin foul Odium's Kolinar plan?
Elsecaller_17.5 replied to Karger's topic in Stormlight Archive
He has no control of the visions, they just happen. He doesn’t go and sit in his room saying “I’m going to have a vision to screw over Odium” it just happens. Ergo passive. -

Question about the Lord Ruler aging [TFE Spoilers]
Elsecaller_17.5 replied to Smallpox's topic in Mistborn
While everything Fox said is correct, he could have Feruchemily charged atium in his stomach which would account for him making it a little while without them. -
Did Renarin foul Odium's Kolinar plan?
Elsecaller_17.5 replied to Karger's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it’s likely, but I doubt it was intentional. Just a passive/natural affect much like Kaladin’s first lashings. -
His advisors who are just as cutthroat and brutal as he his, and would love to take his power.
