I would bet on hours. Certainly not days, but I find it highly unlikely it was minutes. IIRC the prelude described a pretty small area where everything was going down.

There’s the evidence!

I think that deep down all of them were so broken they went along with it pretty quick. I don’t have evidence, just a hunch. She definitely regretted it though with all her destruction of the heralds religious stuff.

Brandon says Shallan closet to the second one (I asked him at a signing) IIRC he also said KAL-a-din and se-ZETH. I (unintentionally) have been saying Sadeas as two syllables with a very similar sound to sadist

I’d like to add a synopsis to the comparison between the ardent and Nazh. the only thing we for sure now about the ardent is that he is short, though I would argue that there is a strong implication that he is darkeyed due to the way Brandon describes him. as far as Nazh goes all we have is “lanky” but the rosharian gravity is .7 standard leading to taller individuals. As far as I know we don’t have a gravity for therondy (nazh’s home world) but if we assume it’s a standard 1.0 it would imply Nazh is shorter than the rosharian average

They have no instant communication. They’re in a weird place with what tech is developed Questioner(paraphrased) People are going crazy wondering if there are telegraphs and telephones in Alloy of Law. Are there? And if not, why? Brandon Sanderson(paraphrased) There are not yet. And the reason why is because they haven’t needed them yet. Necessity is the, what the fuel of invention? Audience Member(paraphrased) The mother of invention Brandon Sanderson(paraphrased) Yes, the mother of invention, and they have messengers who run, Coinshots who are very fast. They also basically don’t need to go outside the City, and haven’t for a long time. They’re close, but they haven’t invented them yet for the same reason that they have very poor navigation techniques. Why do you need to ship anything or sail anywhere when you have some idyllic paradise to live in? And you have allomancers, who in some ways are preventing from achieving that next level, because a Coinshot can get it there really fast, and so you’re only waiting a few minutes for them to come back with your message, so it can actually stifle a little bit of technology by having a not-quite-as-good magical solution. West Jordan signing (Dec. 15, 2011)

At a different (I believe earlier) time he comments on them being relatively rare. I don’t remember where exactly in the books both comments are, but I remember noticing it on my first read and pinpointing it on the next. I think the one about them being common is was in reference to criminals though. i.e. more coinshots turn to crime than tineyes Edit: upon further consideration I believe it was in BoM while talking about his status as one of only three crashers ever born.

IIRC they can. While Vin is training with Moash she mentions that she can feel Kelsier beneath them. Granted Vin is a special case but Moash didn’t comment on it.

@Karger ... wait, they have cars too, in between civil war and WWI is definitely the right period, my bad
-
I didn’t realize they had the telegraph, still I think that would put them smack in the middle of civil war tech.
-
I’d compare the time period to pre-civil war. They do have a very advanced rail system, but they lack any kind of instant communication and especially the chemical warfare and other advanced weaponry you saw in WWI
-
Also, due to the location of the Terris Village, New Elendel would likely have far more feruchemists even if it’s still not very much
-
For the full scale of the war I think it’s ok to just discount Feruchemy. Many of the skills are useful, but can be replaced by allomancy in most situations. F-gold and F-pewter would both be phenomenal for that one soldier but really wouldn’t have an effect on the war or battlefield strategy as a whole. Steelrunners would be incredibly useful but also incredibly rare so I don’t see how planning for them would be that useful. For allomancy it’s important to remember a coinshots use as a scout. I think the governments would put a lot of money into aluminum hats so the soldiers are unaffected by the enemy’s emotional allomancy, but also their own. I think you’d also see a rise in trained hazekillers.

Past Radiant and worldhopper? . . . Sorry I can’t see it. But future radiant I would love to see. I think you made a very strong case for him being a likely candidate for a windrunner and it would be a lot of fun to see a pacifist windrunner cause all of the ones we have seen are soldiers. Edit: Crazy idea I just had. Like absolutely nuts. I’ve always thought that Lirin used to be a soldier and that’s why he is so adamantly pacifist. What if he was one of the Blackthorns Elites. We know the events at the Rift drove at least one Elite into the Ardentia and I could see it driving another into field of medicine. IIRC he didn’t become an apprentice surgeon until he was older which would fit the timeline fairly well.

Get Kelsier good at iron and steel Become a bronze savant Store A LOT of attributes and in a different vein Be a kindly old friend to blind children

I’ve been thinking about Kelsier in the 2nd era and his likely status of a fullborn, and it hit me that he wouldn’t want Harmony/Sazed to have any control over him. Thus, he likely only has one spike. A single spike that grants him access to all of Feruchemy and strengthens at least his steel (evidenced by his steel sight). This leads me to believe that he has a Lerisium spike fashioned from a fullborn. Are the any reasons this wouldn’t be the case, and if I’m correct who would have been spiked?

Please clarify

Think this might be the WoB you were talking about Brandon Sanderson Remember that holding a shard changes you, over time. Rayse knows this, and prefers to leave behind destroyed rivals as opposed to taking their power and potentially being overwhelmed by it.
-
Answered my own question, here’s a WoB. Brandon Sanderson Odium just wants to be top dog. And your two ways to be top dog are to climb higher, or to lower everyone else. And he's like, we're gonna lower everyone else. Because I know, if I combine, it stops being me, is what his opinion is. I would no longer be the person I am. I would change into someone else. And then that person gets to rule, and I don't want that person to rule. I want to. This definitely implies Odium likes be Odium which is a big hole in my theory. Edit: posted this about 3 seconds after your reply popped up.
-
Fair point, but the shards could definitely be described (at least in part) as the different aspects of Adonalsium’s personality. In that sense he is the odium (lowercase on purpose) of Adonalsium and with the split the other pieces could blame everything on Odium even though a part of the fault would be theirs. And please don’t take this as sarcasm, it’s not, but to clarify you believe Odium is taking on the odium willingly?
-
So I’m pretty sure that Odium is the only shard name any one has had to look up. We got Honor, Autonomy, Devotion, Preservation . . . and Odium. Sure everyone knows that it’s hatred but there’s so much more to it than just hatred and I don’t think Brandon would pick such a different and unique word without a lot of thought. And so I introduce to you some definitions of Odium From Merrium-Webster 1: the state or fact of being subjected to hatred and contempt as a result of a despicable act or blameworthy circumstance 2: hatred and condemnation accompanied by loathing or contempt : DETESTATION 3: disrepute or infamy attached to something : OPPROBRIUM From Vocabulary.com That shivery feeling of disgust and hatred that you get when you see something senseless and horrible is called odium. From Oxford General or widespread hatred or disgust incurred by someone as a result of their actions. To me this shows that not only does he hate but he is hated. Now your probably thinking “of course he’s hated, he’s the bad guy” but Odium is the name of the Shard, whatever he is he the most hated and disgusting and terrifying part of the being known as Adonalsium. He is, for lack of a better word, the scapegoat of the Shards, all of the bad so they can be left with the good. Thoughts?
-
It’s a cool theory, though it does worry me. We should remember that while Odium claims he is passion (something that would improve a lot of shards), in truth he is in hatred. Not exactly something I want added to god like beings.
