Yeah, I think we could see something someday (perhaps a novella) of at least "classical Scadrial" (pre Rashek-ascension), whether or not there was another ascension prior to the world being that way. Didn't the Lord Ruler choose to fade away after he was killed? I imagine they did the same, perhaps after seeing the world Rashek created, overcome with despair and unable to affect the world in a meaningful amount.

Brandon has stated previously (in a WoB) that normal nicrosilminds' storage works like a Coppermind, storing discreet things rather than a "reservoir of power" like an ironmind for example. Note that I said normal nicrosilminds, though. I'm pretty sure that Medallions work differently (for one, they allow any person to tap the nicrosil portion of the Medallion, which isn't normally doable).
-
I believe the current consensus is that Nicrosil stores metalborn powers. As in, if you're a nicrosil ferring, and (for example) a chromium misting, you could store the portion of your spiritweb that makes you able to burn chromium Allomantically inside your nicrosilmind, making you unable to burn chromium until you withdrew it from the nicrosilmind. ...This means that giving such a person a Medallion with Unsealed Allomantic Nicrosil inside would allow them to Compound that stored power, multiplying their allomantic strength until they reached... some sort of upper power limit, making them the strongest possible Leecher without brute-forcing it with, say, the Well's power, like the Lord Ruler did for all his allomancy. I will say again that this is merely a consensus i've seen commonly on the forums, not absolute fact. F-Nicrosil could very well have greater quirks than this (especially for powers from the rest of the Cosmere, but I won't give any examples since this is the Mistborn forum).

[Theory] Taln Wasn't the Herald Who Broke; It Was Chanarach

Why is this even getting upvoted, I literally just said something so that I would have a message in here for no reason at all. It was just for kicks. Stop agreeing with my meaningless noise. -
What to make of the Heralds' speech patterns?
Halyo_Alex replied to AquaRegia's topic in Stormlight Archive
So... Does that mean their Connection-translation is making them sound like modern earth-english speakers (when reading the english versions of the books at least) to us because "it's translating it to the language of the reader"? -
Basically the Everstorm catches their souls on the way back to Braize and throws them back to Roshar so they can just go and find a new Listener body to inhabit when the Everstorm passes over the continent. ...I may be oversimplifying, people correct me if i've mist (...ok y'know what I'm leaving that typo in) anything important to that explanation. ...I probably missed something important.
-
Renewing the Oathpact now that the Everstorm exists accomplishes little, if nothing at all. The Fused that die are no longer returned to Braize, and so are beyond the pact's reach, and will not stop being reborn. All it would realistically accomplish is subjecting about 10 people to torture on Braize again. Maybe it would stop new Fused from leaving, but... is that even useful now?

Wondering if that's what's gonna happen to her when Ba-Ado-Mishram gets released and Connects to all the Spren again. ...A whooole lotta things are gonna change very quickly, I feel. It might not look like it at first, to the humans, but... Yeah. It's gonna be a big day when that happens. EDIT: OK WAIT I JUST HAD AN IDEA What if, post-BAM release, the 5th ideal for a Listener Radiant IS the "Radiantform" of that Order? The bond's depth becomes such that their spiritwebs are near-indistinguishable, granting them a form change like a normal lesser spren bond, but with all the perks of being a Radiant. Or at least something like that. Wait, aren't the Fused kinda like that? It seems like at least some Brands of Fused have a "form" suited to their Surge, like the Pursuer and his abundance of hair as a clothing substitution. What if that's the bit that Odium co-opted when he gave the Fused Surges?

Ooh, good point. That'd be a little cooler, honestly.

The thick hairpins are hemalurgic spikes, the golden hair may be a snip of Royal Locks, the silver knife was probably made on Threnody, and the odd flower is almost definitely a Tears of Edgli flower. The tree branch, I don't know about. I think I heard something about it being a Tamu Kek but I've no idea. I kinda got reminded of a Dahkor Monk's bone with the description, but it obviously isn't that. It might be something aonic anyway, though.

Timing of events on Scadrial and Roshar
Halyo_Alex replied to stormwallsurfer's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Also! It may be that the Ghostbloods use some Cadmium mistings to help with that, once Cadmium's allomantic effect was discovered. Have a cadmium misting and some fellow Ghostbloods stand in a room together, maybe even nicro-burst the cadmium misting, depending on the desired result. With a precisely measured dose of Cadmium, you can predict the time when the bubble will run out, and so easily jump to specific dates.- 31 replies

Yep, this seems to be the general consensus of the 17th shard thus far. it's just that nowadays we actually have some knowledge of how Ado would be split that way.

GRAVITY IS NOT A FORCE MMMM LIES Ok but actually, the "force" of Gravity is just matter trying to follow it's straight line through the dimension of time, in a curved spacetime due to mass. "Mass tells spacetime how to curve, spacetime tells matter how to move". The curvature of spacetime literally deflects some of your temporal momentum into 3D space, causing you to fall and also experience time dilation near massive objects. (Bonus: the Equivalence Principle "There is no difference between being accelerated due to gravity or due to an outside force" explains why accelerating close to lightspeed makes you experience time dilation too). Double Bonus: Investiture also warps spacetime, like mass. So Sel's cognitive-realm-full-of-2-shards'-worth-of-investiture is probably causing Sel to be slower relative to the rest of the Cosmere, but because it's in the cognitive realm, the planet doesn't have absurd gravitation.

I think you're getting at the right ideas here, so let me offer my two clearchips here. 1. I think all shards do have a metal. Lerasium, Atium, and... Shardbladium/Shardplatium, which is probably 10 different alloy ratios of Honor and Cultivation's metals, and the Honorblades are likely pure Honor/Tanavastium. This implies the existence of Edglium, which may actually exist; as the pigment for the Tears of Edgli flower. Metals are parts of at least a few dye compounds I can think of, so why not? 2. I think we're getting a little hung up on the name of Light. I believe it's been said by brandon that Stormlight is the gaseous state of investiture for Honor. So the Mists would be Preservationlight and Ruinlight, depending on if it's white or black mist. Also, Breaths may be a form of "Light" (gaseous investiture), just... stickier because they're from Nalthis? I'm not sure.

What's going on with the lifespren near Lasting Integrity?
Halyo_Alex replied to mdross81's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Huh... Shrugs in Enlightened Truthwatcher To be fair, Nalthis does seem like a place that might cause that... Hues and Harmonics, anyone? Maybe they're pulsing at the rate that Nalthians think "green" pulses at. I'm almost definitely wrong, but who cares, it's a fun thought until we get more information. -

Halyo_Alex replied to mdross81's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wait... Didn't you already post this a few months ago? I swear i've read this a while back. Anyway, the only things I can think of are particularly crackpot, like, all the Lifespren are a hivemind and pulsing to the same rhythm as the ones at the Tower, for example. -
I mean, making cloth as rigid as steel probably would help with that, yes. ...pre-shardblade stonewards making a paper sword and keeping it rigid with tension. Wait, Dalinar could use a paperblade then.

Makes me wonder if the effect of the suppression fabrial is like a Coppercloud on such steroidal power level that it straight up blocks the cognitive aspect from communicating with the Physical aspect.

Seems kinda... Shady Yeah, it feels like Whimsy's magic system would be the most likely to be the biggest pain in the neck for a scholar to understand, not one that they would feel encouraged to research.

Why would a city with perhaps the best University for studying the physics of the cosmere be the place of residence for a Shard who doesn't care about the fine details and just wants to do whatever it wants? Those feel distinctly opposed in theme to me. I think it is a coincidence, because of course Silverlight doesn't want to invoke Odium's wrath, it's a city in the cognitive realm. We know what Odium can do to the cognitive realm to make it uninhabitable if he wants to.
