  1. What?! Someone against cookies?! This sounds like the perfect time for me to bring back the (mostly) official 17th shard awesome cookie!
  2. I think AonDor would pretty easily be represented as a D&D spell system, personally. Just break the aons up into spells of various levels, remove all material components, and make all of them have somatic component (drawing the Aon). Have all the casters cast like a sorcerer, where they have so many "known" spells, but maybe able to learn more like a wizard adding to his spell book, and spontaneous casting.
  3. I've played D&D since 2nd Ed AD&D, with 3rd edition being the BULK of my experience. I personally loath 4E, but I can understand it's appeal to others. That said, I'm currently enamored with the new 5E rule set. Also, I posted this several months back, but someone on reddit was apparently making a 5E version of all the knights radiant. Searched for it really quick, looks like this is the most recent incarnation of that. I haven't given it a really hard look over, so no idea how well its balanced. Also, some many years ago, I ran a (rather short) play by post here on the 17th shard forums, running through world's largest dungeon. Interest in it peter'd out pretty darn quick, though.
  4. I was just coming here to post this today! Looks like i was beaten to the punch for the first time ever though! The tradition is broken! Eero is a free elf!
  5. Zas! Good to see you back! How's life treating ya? Any interesting tidbits from Peru?
  6. Yeah, definitely needs some tweaking from being too powerful, but seems to be going a fairly interesting direction. Not sure I agree with giving all knight radiants shardplate, though....
  7. (be warned, possible spoilers in the link) http://www.reddit.com/r/dndnext/comments/2g7h3n/updated_knight_radiant_class_with_windrunner_and/ Looks like it's shaping up OK. He had a first iteration topic a week or so ago, it looks interesting.
  8. Yeah, spell check is generally a local function of your browser..... Though, i have seen some forum software incorporate it into it, for PHPBB i believe that's a 3rd party plugin, and not native functionality.
  9. Not too bad, all things considered, just chuggin' away at life. Sucks to hear things weren't so great for you, but glad to hear it's all better now. What's new with you?
  10. Miyabi! Where have you been? Chaos has been worried sick about you! Maybe. You'd have to ask him. I'm not his keeper.
  11. I have two dogs. Pharaoh (on the right) is a mutt. Asiyah (left) is a derpy half greyhound half mastiff. And here's Pharaoh as a puppy
  12. Yeah, financial security is nice. It's also VERY easy to form a love-hate relationship with software development, i would assume many other careers are similar.
  13. Yep, that's exactly my problem with it. it comes off like its his codename, and confuses people who are unfamiliar with the comics. I've met people before who had exactly this problem with the show, and didnt realize he was existant in the comics because of it (granted, they weren't big comic buffs)
  14. Yeah, i know WHY they called him slade vs deathstroke, kids show and all, but it was just slightly annoying to me that they would so blatantly refer to him by his normal, non-villain name all the time (not to mention causing potential confusion as to who he was, and causing people to refer to him as "slade" instead of "deathstroke" by not knowing his name). Really, deathstroke isnt exactly the best choice for a kids show period, despite him being a teen titans staple in the comics.
  15. A fan of many of the classics. Superman, batman and such. I really like green lantern, too. Deadpool is always awesome, but overall i'm more of a DC guy than Marvel. For Villains, i think the Joker is probably one of the most frightening villains, mostly because he's so haphazardly crazy in his dealings. All other villains have a motive (power, money, destruction, etc), joker just does it for the lulz and get batman's goat. Also a big fan of Darkseid. FYI, Slade Wilson is his real name. Deathstroke is his "villain" name. That's one thing that always annoyed me about that show, how they never used his villain name.
  16. With the amount of times things suddenly go from "it's fine" to "it's borked for completely no reason whatsoever", magic is definitely a reasonable explanation sometimes. Sometimes I would swear that the phases of the moon determines what state your software is in.
  17. Probably a good thing, too. Knowing my luck, I'd be eaten my first week on the job.
  18. I do this as well. Software engineer, work for a large bank. Jobs not terribly exciting but the pay's good.
  19. Hey, all, We've been watching this thread, due to the potential for flaming coming up here, and we've noticed that the conversation is teetering a bit close to the edge. In an attempt to not have a rather popular topic closed due to arguments getting too heated, I am stepping in to ask everyone to remember to keep your posts on topic, polite, and courteous to our other members, regardless of their thoughts and opinions. We consider ourselves a friendly, open community, and welcome everyone regardless of their political, religious, or sexuality views, and will not tolerate pushing one particular agenda. "Shipping" as it's referred to is not a common thing here on 17th Shard. Any particular 'rules' so far as it's concerned cannot be expected to be understood as rote. And by the same token, theory crafting is VERY popular here, so a stricter adherence to commonly accepted canon is VERY important to the vast majority of our members. It's important to remember this when you're trying to make your case in a scenario such as this. This post isn't directed at any one in particular, just a friendly reminder to keep things from going too far out of control.
  20. Well, the big-bad of the story is the concept of evil, and an immortal being acting through proxies. Kind of hard to assign mortal genders to it (though they do refer to him as the "father of lies" and "he" pretty often, but I think that's more of a convenience in linguistics than a concession that "he" is male) That and various female villains play the "big bad guy" of certain story arcs, such as the various female members of the forsaken. As far as the WoT story is concerned, this is about the best you can hope for in regards to "villains" actively participating in the story.
  21. The wheel of time series is rife with female villains. In fact, there's a dedicated group of evil female magic users.
  22. It's figuratively a literal metaphor. That should clear it up completely. :3
  23. Ava's demons is great. I haven't read it in a couple of months, and I do agree the one panel at a time thing is slightly annoying, but if you can get past it, it's a really awesome.
  24. Yeah, the old kingdom trilogy is really good. You can also get audio books of Tim Curry reading them, which is utterly wonderful. Very yes! Dragonriders of pern. And as was mentioned wheel of time is relatively clean, a few vague references and beginning of a scene followed by a cut to afterwards, without showing "on stage" the scene itself.
