  1. ....... Are only 300 or so years old.... Singers and dragons are both.... Scaly-ish The Kandra however.....
  2. Here's a quote from mistborn: Perhaps I'm just being obstinate but it does say "force". Each vessel has a big impact on how their shard is expressed so other's opinions DO matter. I'll agree that Weakness is not the name it would go by... Maybe something like Frailty, Instability, or Vulnerability.
  3. Many of the shards aren't personality traits. See Ruin, Preservation, and to a lesser degree, Cultivation. These are all forces of nature. Not personality traits. Defining weakness is complicated.... It means different things to different people. For instance: if a nation falls to another nation one could say it was weak. Or was it just weaker than the nation that attacked? Does it matter? a shard of weakness would be just as hard to define as autonomy.
  4. Riiiiight....... I forgot about that........
  5. Adonalsium died.... So he did have weakness in him. Maybe devotion has the "weakness" part of Adonalsium. Loving everyone too much to hurt them even as they killed him.... But that comes with the assumption that Ado was, in fact, a being not a force of nature.
  6. For some reason I have a hard time imagining Hoid not knowing something... also he could have only used a portion of the bead instead of all of it. If he's used it at all.
  7. I do believe that there is a deeper reason, and I like the idea of them discovering that not only did they kill the former inhabitants to get all that they have but so did their "god". It would be devastating to find out that your god of honor is actually a murderer and usurper.
  8. Here's a WoB on the subject: The question leaves a bit of wiggle room, but I do believe that the shards were identical in power at first. Some shards got WAY "weaker" (since they are all infinite they don't actually get weaker.... They just have less power at that moment) seeing as some of them went and made a planet... While others that kept their power away from accidental investing have more power at their disposal.
  9. Right. I wasn't talking about shards at large, but that if there was a shard that passes on its power every so often that it would leave its memories with the shard. But again, while plausible, it's a stretch.
  10. I believe the stormlight cycle plays a big part of this. Unless I'm mistaken stormlight is basically Honor's raw investiture. I think stormlight might have predated H&C arrival.... But even if it did it would keep Honor's power from building up too much pressure. The storms act like a vent, blasting extra investiture across the PR to keep it from getting to dangerous levels. also there's a WoB about D&D splintering that says Odium was just figuring out how to kill people and that the whole Selish fiasco was a mistake. I'll try to find it.... Found it!
  11. @Wandering Investor interestingly, some of them are not pre reod! New WoB: Khyrindor [PENDING REVIEW] The lighthouse guy was Ire? In Oathbringer? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Yes. Khyrindor [PENDING REVIEW] And he was the same Elantrian that they put in the Shardpool at the end of-- Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Yes, he is the same person. Khyrindor [PENDING REVIEW] And was he Ire before... Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] He was not before then. So it seems they are Elantrians that survive going through the shardpool. How they accomplish that with the state of Sel's CR..... Who knows? In SH they were trying to take a shard, so perhaps that's their plan? I don't think the were going after Preservation in particular... I'm sure if they could find another dead shard that wasn't splintered they would attempt to seize that one as well.
  12. Rats! I knew there was a letter but couldn't recall what it said. That kills that. Well.... A case could be made that the vessels pass on their memories as well... But that's starting to stretch it... I'm super hooked on the concept now tho.....
  13. Same. It's one of those few things where your just like, huh? But if Ruin plus Preservation equal Creation, would Preservation plus Cultivation equal Destruction?
  14. You just ruined my life..... All those theories screaming as they die On the other hand, if that wasn't a trick answer, then I think Endowment would be a likely suspect. A shard of giving that gives its power to a new person every millennia or so.
  15. I fully agree with this! They may never have a sister-sister like relationship but that doesn't mean they can't be close, support each other, and learn from one another. (Personally I have always seen them more like aunt-niece) As to Jasnah, of course she will have to grow. That's not to say she will grow into a better person.... I believe she will, but we will have to RAFO
  16. I really don't know why not. Harmony is the expression of balance of two shards. So theoretically any two shards could be combined to form Harmony. (Then again..... With R and P being direct opposites maybe other combos would be less... harmonic?) Another thought, R and P had to work together to build, create, and cultivate. I feel like those two shards are not that different to Cultivation.
  17. Welcome to the Shard! I personally believe the sibling will be a mix between Honor and Cultivation. But who knows? (Full disclaimer: I only sorta have followed the Sibling debates)
  18. Me and my brother were talking about the Lord Ruler and how much foresight and effort it would have been to build the storage caches. Caning all that food, hiding it in caves, and repeating every few years. All the time keeping it secret from everyone but the workers.... At which point my brother asked in a confused voice: "the Lord Ruler didn't do it all himself?" "No" l said, now confused myself. "You thought the Lord Ruler, god emperor of the Final Empire, was canning food in his basement?" " Well... I thought that was why he looked so tired in book one. " Now I can't get the image of the Lord Ruler stocking shelves in a Wal-Mart uniform out of my head
  19. I don't think Nale will make it much longer... Switching sides to a hateful god, who's actively killing heralds, doesn't seem conducive to a long life.
  20. Didn't miss that I have qualifiers everywhere in my posts.
  21. Exactly! Again! (When I see I've been quoted I usually assume someone is disagreeing with me... So kind of refreshing to have two people agree with me in a row), I think we are all in agreement.... Hard. Not impossible (probably). More effective to farm greatshells (except with talented radiants, and assuming doesn't require too much stormlight). Anything I missed?
  22. Exactly! HARD. But not impossible. I think they will explore this area of soulcasting, but don't think they will ever be mass producing gems.... Even if it doesn't require massive amounts of stormlight. I think even if they do figure it out they'll farm chasmfiends instead as it would probably be easier. (Tho not cheaper!)
  23. .......... I like the way you think I really don't see why not. Sure it would be REALLY hard..... But so is making unkeyed medallions. Hard but not impossible.
  24. @Extesian confession time... I'd never looked at your user pic closely and have thought it was Mickey Mouse this whole time
  25. I think "normal" Truthwatchers could see the present. It works with their name and would still allow them to "see" the future. They just used more guess work. So the only difference between Renarin and others would be that he sees the future while the others see the present.
