A Stylistic Question: Present or Past tense?
Meg replied to FeatherWriter's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
So do we have a new convention now in writing all articles in present tense? (I'm not literally knowledgeable, but it feels wrong to me as for all we write about -- except future books -- is in the past, and we don't really know what is "now" in the cosmere. I mean our RL-world "now" isn't related to the cosmere.) -
Slightly offtopic: I thought that Steelhunt-informations should not be shared at the moment? Sorry for using this thread but it caught my eye today while reading through the forums, that in some posts more or less plain informations were given. Or is that restriction gone? Again: sorry.

A Stylistic Question: Present or Past tense?
Meg replied to FeatherWriter's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
Yes That's a good idea but until that "final word" is given I'd suggest to go with how it's handled now. Examples: or So, as long as there is no contradicting rule given by the admins -- as I said -- we should go with this convention. -
A Stylistic Question: Present or Past tense?
Meg replied to FeatherWriter's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
Uhm, @ Argent, I've told FeatherWriter my own knowledge about how we handle it working on the Coppermind Wiki. At the moment this is the convention for the use of the tenses and so it should be done this way. I've added this to the Style Guide, too. If the admins change their opinion on the tenses they will surely tell us. edit: better wording (hopefully) -
A Stylistic Question: Present or Past tense?
Meg replied to FeatherWriter's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
This might help you a bit, though it doesn't answer your question. Generally the articles are written in past tense except articles about magics (those are written in present). -
Oh, thanks, it would help to read more concentrated.

Slightly off topic but: Is it confirmed that Shallan is Order 6 and Jasnah is Order 7? If yes, could someone give me the source?
-
Thanks again That's exactly what happens to me if I try to look up such words (either in dictionaries or for example in wikipedia). Each "solution" brings ten new questions. @ Ardent: Versions is a good possibility, too. Thanks.

Thanks a lot Morsk, I think it's more clarified for me now. The "forms of Surgebinding" come from this quote (the emphasized part): Ah, Kurki, it's not your fault so there is no need for apologizing . At least not only yours as you see in my examples (which are not yours). I have read your simplified-forms-thread but it didn't help me, I'm sorry. I will reread it now, with Morsk's explanations as background, and hopefully I will understand more.

Hey there, please bear with me, I need your help, once again. This time it's about some general confusions of mine but -- surely -- related to BS's work. There are some terms which confuse me. One of those is „forms“ because it hasn't one unique definition/meaning. Lurking through some interviews I found this one. And because I didn't know about Plato's „forms“ I tried to learn a bit about it. If I understand it right, Plato's „forms“ (which in the German wikipedia are called „Ideen“ (ideas)) might be called „notions“ (for philosophy-dummies like me). (Those „notions“ would be opposed to the physical experiene of something … I mean: I have a notion of what a horse is. The physical experience would be touching a horse. I think it's a bad description, but abstract thinking isn't really my thing. I'm more the one who says: „What I see, hear, feel, smell, exists.“ ) Could I go with this definition? The second mentioning of „forms“ is related to the „forms of Aons“(1), „the forms of surgebinding“(2) or the „forms of the Parshendi“(3). (1) and (3) seem to be used for shapes (the lines that define which Aon is drawn and the different „states“ of the Parshendi). And (2) I would more read as the „kind of“, „way of“ or „sort of“ surgebinding. Are my "definitions" correct? I'd appreciate if you could help me a bit with this (with both, my „translations“ and my trying to understand Plato). I'd too appreciate if there would not be mockery about my "flaws". Thanks in advance. PS: Yes, I drafted this posting off-line so the "..." are not all correct, but I'll keep it.

I love quotes and references but sometimes I try to find something and I fail. I'm quite sure I've read a thread ... the thread where Chaos told as about this (Commands are the focus for Awakening). I tried to rediscover that thread to reread it but ... as I said: I failed. Chaos or anyone else, might you help me?

@Joshstormblessed Thanks for clarifying. So it seemed obvious I really was confused by "Shallan" instead of "Navani" and "letter" instead of "notebook".

Do we have an official confirmation about this? I'd beg you to give me the quote. Thanks in advance.- 52 replies

I'm just trying to understand what BS says, but it's quite hard . When he does the WoR-Prologue-Reading, it's longer than the one already transcribed earlier. Hopefully someone will add the new part. It start's at around 14:40 and ends at 15:25 (it's not much). edit: Thanks to Cem who added that part.

Hey Josh, at the moment I'm not sure if I love or hate you. Because I myself don't have a possibility to go to signings (they are way to far away ) I kind of crave for any tidbit I can find. And though I've read the following postings (hinting at Navani's Notebook) I dare beg you to try to re-remember what BS said. I'll tell you, why: - decode -> is against my nitpicking + Shallan -> I really hope BS doens't himself confuse Shallan and Navani + letter -> I wouldn't say, Navani's Notebook is "a letter" + "beginning of TWoK" -> Navani's Notebook: One is on page 762 in the hardcover version, that's not really "at the beginning of TWoK" I see, that Navani's Notebook seems to be the favorite option, but I would be happy to get more information. Please don't feel insulted, if nothing else it's my lacking in English that causes me to bring things into question that might be obvious for others.

The bond with the "chasmfiend"-spren are not the only reason for their size: But I'm curious about an answer to your question, Kurkistan, though, honestly, I don't believe that humans -- or "all animals with a spren-bond" grow gemhearts. Much more would I love to get a question on the time passed in TWoK as CheeseNinja asked. In an annotation to the Mistborn books (I don't kow in mind which), he said that normally the books are chronological, that means Chapter 3 is later than Chapter 2. If he doesn't answer Cheese's question, could you ask whether this chronology is given in TWoK, too (aside from Flashbacks)?

I admit that I didn't check the threads Shardlet posted but I remember the following quote:
-
It's late and I can't find that "WoB". Would you be so kind and link the reference?

In addition, because I insisted that we didn't know for sure about Honorspren: So: Honorspren are Splinters.

Nice information! I think, now we have the confirmation that Honorspren are Splinters of Honor. @ the idea that every Shard from which Splinters exist is Splintered: I'm sorry, I can't follow this idea at the moment. It would imply that Endowment is Splintered (Shattered), too, what I don't believe (though we don't have any evidence about this question as far as I know). I think that a Shard can create Splinters of itself (that's what I understand Endowment does). So why wouldn't Cultivation be able to do so as well? Maybe she kind of released a lot of Splinters in reaction to Honor's Splintering (to create a balance, out of frustration, or whatever reasons) but I'm not convinced Cultivation is Shattered, too. edit: A question for clarifying because of me not being sure how to read it: About the emphasized part: My lacking English makes me feel there is something missing or wrong. Should it read: "which they would consider they are gods." or "which they would consider their gods". Or do I miss something entirely? I apologize for my -- seemingly stupid -- questions.

That implies that spren are Splinters of Honor. This isn't confirmed yet. While it's confirmed that the Aons inside the Seons are Splinters of Devotion I don't remember outright confirmation that spren (or parts of them?) are Splinters of Honor (though it seems likely to be so). Why, and how ... I'd like to know, too. Help me: The Aons are the Splinters. You think there is a step between the shattered shardic power and the Aon (inside the Seons)? I admit that those thoughts about cognitive and spiritual things aren't really my thing. But I'd like to point out that there indeed seems to be a great difference between the "unbound power" and/or Splinters on Sel and those on Roshar: Though the emphasized part corroborates your theory (but doesn't proof it), in my understanding this quote kind of cuts across your theory, but, bear with me if I'm wrong and help me closing my gasps.

Yes, but it's a gut feeling, I have no evidence for it, I think Urithiru already existed when Nohadon lived (and wasn't built in this time). Also I believe that the Silver Kingdoms came later (I have the idea that each order of KR was located in or kind of responsible for one of the Silver Kingdoms). Somewhere was written that in Urithiru where the ten thrones of the ten Kings of the ten Silver Kingdoms. (Jasnah said this to Shallan: “Urithiru was said to be the center of the Silver Kingdoms, a city that held ten thrones, one for each king. It was the most majestic, most amazing, most important city in all the world.”). So may be the leaders of the KR-orders were those kings. *speculating day* And Jasnah's quote also says that not only the KR were settled in Urithiru. I'm sure there's some "normal" folk everywhere where nobles are.

I think, Dalinar and Elhokar are bound to spren, and we know that Szeth isn't bound to a spren. This might be the critical difference.
-
I'm not Cheese, but maybe she has set the Desolation-vision at the beginning and not (only) at the end because of this: This might imply that Dalinar thought his last vision (the last vision we see in TWoK) is the same as his first vision. I've never had the idea that the Radiants "were involved in the creation of Urithiru." How did you come to this thought? If this would be right, then your conclusion is convincing. (Hopefully I don't sound harsh.)
