Re-reading Mistborn trilogy and trying to understand more about Scadrial, Preservation, Ruin and Sazed, a question formed in my mind: Apparently there had been 10 beads of Lerasium at the Well of Ascension. TLR got his abilities by taking up the power from the Well, he didn't use a bead. Nine beads were given to political allies who became the origial first Allomancers. One bead saved Elend's live. But Preservations "number" was sixteen. 16 metals (there are more as BS tells in interviews, but that's what the book reads) (And yes I know that 1/16 =| 16 % and I know there's a thread about this.) There might be other "number-16-clues" that I don't remember at the moment. So my question: Has anyone an idea why there should have been ten beads of lerasium? I itches me to find out if there were 16 beads and what happened to the other six.

I just saw that the site changed it's font. Now it's better to read than the old one but worse than at it's beginning. Nobody thinks about the Myopes. -
At first I beg for your pardon for this post. I stumbled about a quote that I don't understand and where I'm sure, native-English speakers or one with a better knowledge than myself, can help me. I see that it's not your task to "translate" or interpret things for me, but I'd be very happy, if someone could help me. My question is about the part "as was intended, and as apparently had been done many times before." I've read the sentence now a few times, but I don't know if I read it right. Does the part in brackets belong to TLR? Or does it belong to any possible Slivers that took Preservation's power prior to TLR? I'd be happy if someone can help me out of my confusion.

I'm not really a fan of dying (main) characters -- not even in SoFaI (to my mind there is definitely too much death and blood). And by now I 'fear' the death of some characters I got to love in The Stormlight Archive. But I've to admit that I do not get teary eyed when characters die that didn't attract me much. In Mistborn I felt that the story led to this ending, at least to the death of Vin. Elend's died, too, feels fair to me, because I'd have had a feeling of injustice if one of them survived and the other one died. And with that hint that they are together 'somewhere' it's a fitting ending to that story.

Dawnshards spawn Shardblades and shardplate?
Meg replied to Localconfusi0n's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's an interesting idea. The following quotes might give some evidence: And this: That might describe that last step to become a Knight Radiant (what would imply that "the Dawnshard" was a kin of a relict, kept by the leaders of the Knights Radiant to give to the new-becoming KR for their last step of progression). Or: Dawnshards are the original, old name for what now is called Honorblade. (Just a baseless musing.) -
I know that quote from BS. And I won't edit your work there. I only wanted to say that in my belief it's not correct and confusing to add terms to a summery that aren't used in the work that is summarized. I apologize for disturbing.

I just saw that the "side bar" (I don't know the right word) is updatet: now it's good to read and neatly arranged. -
Hey Shardlet, nice work . But, as always, I'm nitpicking: I'd suppose not to use "cryptics" in this summary as for this word isn't 100% canonical and it's not the word that is used in the book. She calls them symbolheads (iirc).

My first impression is good. It's much better to read than the old one though this is a bit contradicted by the pictures in the background of the upcoming events (the events are not easy to read). And there is a little typo on the library-page "... annotations ... unnavailable" I'm glad that it's black on white now and that the font changed. And, as Havoc said, it's easy to navigate. -
There are some statements from BS about how the Shard's Intent changes the (mind of) the person that is holding a Shard's power. I'm fairly sure I saw at least another one, but I can't find it at the moment. Hopefully this quote helps a bit. BS also said that everybody can take up a Shard('s power). I think, that combined with the permanent struggle that a Shard's holder has to endure shows, why Vin could do things that Leras couldn't. On the one hand she surely had another personality than Leras, and on the other hand, she held Preservation only a very short time (compared to Leras) so that she still was able to fight against Ruin, while Leras already had been too influenced by Preservation to act this way. (PS: Disclaimer: My spellchecker doesn't work here, so I beg for you to bear with eventual typos and that.)

Pechvarry is just pointing to my newest problem. I've mused to make a topic, but now I dare put my post here. Once more I need your help to dig deeper into the Cosmere and the underlying thoughts of Mr. Sanderson. I'd -- still -- say: There are three Shards on Roshar. What do we know? (That shows that Odium _had been_ on Roshar.) This tidbit is quite confusing: "O. never really settled on a planet." vs. the next sentence: "is now settled on Roshar" Nonetheless: All above given quotes tell us, that Odium at least had been on Roshar, and that he did invest parts of himself there. Thus far I don't have bigger problems. Those come with the next quote: That quote kind of contradicts the one directly above it. You might have noticed that I added the date when those statements were made. But those (RL-)dates don't help with my confusion. So my question is: When -- in the timeline of the Cosmere -- are those statements of Mr. Sanderson placed? Finally this one: Here again: when in the timeline of the Cosmere is "are" and "is". We "know" that Tanavast was dead (and therefor Honor was Splintered) by the end of TWoK. But -- going back to Odium -- this quote, too, says that Odium "is" on Roshar. That's all very confusing. Can someone help or do I (we) need to wait for Mr. Sanderson clarifying this?

So I've another idea why Vin left that square where Hoid sat. Shortly after her leaving that square she felt she was followed. Later, when the Elend's camp was attacked she hunted a "mistborn", too. She thinks that both times it had been the same person. I'm fairly sure, she is right. And the Annotations give a hint, who had followed/distracted her. Edit: added something to the spoiler-section.

And, also, Leets are really nice things .

I appreciate your help (with an upvote) and dare -- for another thing -- quote myself:

I know I'm late. I've reat that posting a few times now but it's not evident for me what exactly are your questions and what are BS's answers. Would you -- or someone else who doesn't have my problem -- be so kind an add some Q's and A's in front of the answers and questions? It'd be very helpful for me. Thanks in advance.
-
That's a good point, thank you. I didn't realize this.

I searched for quotes but only found some about the intent changing the mind of a person that holds a Shard of Adonalsium and that there is a struggle. That struggle seems to me more a mental (I hope that's the right word) problem than a physical. This is one of my questions. Does the body die when the Shard is Splintered or is there a Splintering when the body dies?
-
I'm a bit confused. In some of the last postings I got the impression that Splintering has to be the result of an attack on the Shard. We know that Honor is Splintered: (Hoser gave this quote already on the first page.) In his case that sounds like the Splintering of Honor was a forced act (by Odium). I, personally, wouldn't say: "Honor is dead." but: "Tanavast is dead." While parts of a body can't live on their on, the Splinters do. But not all Splinters are the result of such forced acts. For example Endowment gives its Splinters (the Divine Breath) freely to the people who then become Returned. Hmm, now I'd like to know, whether really Odium killed Tanavast or if Rayse did this (respective Devotion and Dominion, too). Do we know whether Honor was Splintered because his body died? Or did Odium "kill" Honor and thus Honor's body died?

Are spren attracted to somebody/something or do they cause it?
Meg replied to Meg's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'd say: we don't know. They don't seem to eat, age, grow (as we understand it) nor give birth, but spren can die. That's (mostly) what that thread is about. I stay with my opinion, that spren are attracted by something and then make themselves visible to the people. Once they are seen by the people that kind of enforces this people to stay with their actions even if this isn't intended. So I think when one is near to death he unconsciously sees death spren. Because he learned, that death spren appear, when one dies, he thinks he dies and then he dies faster/easier than if there are no death spren. This happens in his subconscious mind. I still don't believe that each and any spren can be "captured" or immobilized by being measured (as are the flame spren in Geranid's Interlude). That means every 'plain' spren can become every visible spren? I'm not sure . Soulcasters contain spren. Are they bound to the Soulcasters? I don't know in mind. They are imprisoned in the Soulcasters, this we know. That seems to work for Syl anyways. Whether the cryptics aren't sentient before binding, I don't know. And I'd like to quote Windrunner here relating to that Tor-link: -
IIRC, not having my book handy: Yes, Dalinar still felt the Thrill after that conversation (he felt the Thrill during the Battle of the Tower).
-
Might this thread be moved to the stalking-forum?
-
Nice information. I was under the impression that the Thrill isn't only a "lighteyes-thing" and hence I was sure Kaladin felt it too (referring to the scene you mentioned, Shardlet). I have to admit that I didn't think of the possibility that one could lose that feeling, though I wouldn't say that Kaladin feels it anymore. Given that new information (and ignoring that he said it not a denial or confirmation ) I'd say that Kaladin lost the Thrill (to fight for only the fights sake) and his motifs turned to an honorable reasoning for fighting (caring for and saving his mates). Though this wasn't described as "nausea" this same feeling might have struck Dalinar (TWoK Ch 26) and at the end it outweighed the Thrill, pushing Dalinar closer to Honor. That would mean that Dalinar's "way to Honor" started at least with Chapter 26.

Can you give us a quote for that (I think, you're remembering something wrong here). -
I'd like to know the full story of "I hate Dragons" if only for a few more "I can hear apostrophes."
