Theory? Speculation? Source? Evidence? That's the question: Do (or did) the Shards (of Adonalsium!) have "own native planets"? That question catches up with my question whether there were all the planets/Shardworlds prior to the Shattering of Adonalsium.

I appreciate your hint and did re-read that passage. You're right this wasn't Harkaylain but the female knight, though that doesn't disprove my idea that there's a communication between a KR and their or a spren. That is what I tried to say. Ah, maybe Syl just lurked around and saw those people? But that's to easy a possibility, I see. Thank you. As I said: I think that (half-)audible communication is with spren; see also Kurkistans post. I'm sorry that I did mess that Starfalls-quote up and that my posts might sometimes need some clarifying or that I misread other posts; that's mostly because I (yet) lack a lot of ability in English.

I'm sorry, but I can't be with you there. I think the female Knight turns to Harkaylain to see, how he reacts on Dalinar joining the fight and then they build that triangular formation. I don't refuse that there is something going on that is not visible or audible for Dalinar. But Harkaylain's expression growing distant might indicate that something in the distance (likely in the town where Dalinar fled from) was brought to Harkaylain's focus. Given that all KR shared a bond with spren I personally think that his spren might have gone there and told him, he was needed. This I believe because the two KR seemed to appear where they were needed without any hint how they knew where to go. Maybe the Orders and their spren provided sort of a "network" watching over Roshar and sending help where it was needed. Yes, we didn't see Kal and Syl communicate over distances but that might be, because Kal's not a KR yet and so the Nahel bond between Kal and Syl isn't fully formed yet. This implies that we don't know yet what abilities are granted by a fully formed Nahel bond(-symbiosis). I'm musing that one must have spoken all Ideals of their Order (so four Ideals) to complete that symbioses to a real Nahel bond.

What do you mean with "communicate silently"? That they talk "in their minds*, not audible? If yes, why do you think that? The male Knight talks to his fellow Knight and both of them talk to Dalinar. Please help .

Because there was really no kind of connection between Rock and Elhokar? Now, being part of Dalinar's guard, they might meet as for I think Dalinar will be around Elhokar often in the next time given Dalinar's statement to Elhokar and what he told Kal. Then, I think, if Brandon likes us , maybe we will see whether Rock sees the cryptics or not.

That's a nice one, thanks! Aren't all Shardworlds planets? Oo
-
Yeah, I meant Shardworlds when I wrote planets, and I've forgotten about Yolen (that book is the one that only students at BYU can read, IIRC?). I think I've got to refine my question: Did (all the) Shardworlds exist prior to Adonalsium's Shattering?
-
I'd like to add a question: Did the planets themselves exist prior to Adonalsium's Shattering? If this question is already answered I'd be glad somebody could give me the answer or a reference.

That might be. Ah, and the owners of the parshmen say: "Go make children." Nice idea ... You're right, "they have to come from somewhere." Also you're right about Dalinar's nurse ("A parshman nurse had practically raised Dalinar." TWoK Ch 26; the German translation is female about that nurse). Kaladin noticed some clean-shaven Parshendi in his first bridgerun but didn't come to the conclusion this clean-shaven ones might be female (Ch. 4). When Dalinar examined the dead Parshendi (Ch. 56) he was struck by the fact that nobody seemed to have thought about the genders they were fighting on the last six years. He found that the clean-shaven seem to have faintly feminine shapes. Searching through TWoK for "Parshmen/Parshman" and "beard" I'm really surprised not finding at least on mention about Parschmen having beards. While Kaladin and Dalinar (and Gavilar) mentioned beards on Parshendi I'll tend to think Parshmen don't have beards ... which inclines that they might be male and female. Now my brain is running around like a cat trying to catch its own cattail.
-
But in TWoK were never mentioned female parshmen.

I like that idea. If it proofs true I'd add the possibility that Hoid's Trailman's flute might be one. But there is that: *disclaimer* I'm still not sure if Kabsal is to believed in his statements.

That's a pity. I found another tidbit that might help my "negotiation" of your OP. But maybe it's kind of helpful, though. Sorry for adding it though you already took a step from that theory. I -- with my no-knowledge about physics -- understand this, as only physically manifested objects can be banned on a photograph. Thus I believe that Shardblades are not spren.

My first thought was: yes, she would be seen, as same as Shallan is depicting the cryptics or Elhokar sees them in mirrors. But though I'd like my thinking to be right, I'm not really sure. I -- with my no-knowledge about physics -- understand this, as only physically manifested objects can be banned on a photograph.

Nice quote. I looked for "Dawnchant" and find only four mentions: — Epigraph Chapter 35 — The conversation after the "Honor-vision" in Chapter 60 (which I partially quoted before), where "Dawnchant" is mentioned three times. I'm sorry, I can't find Jasnah mentioning "Dawnchant."- 52 replies

You're welcome. I'm sorry to play the wiseacre: It's not Jasnah lamenting but Navani (that happened after the Nohadon-vision): But your quote is amazing too, I didn't remember that.- 52 replies

At the italic-part: I'm with you there. I was referring to "nowadays" with my three books. That I totally forgot about this passage: I think, that's what you remembered. Edit: I was too slow with my post.- 52 replies

Vorinism and the Decline of Historic Knowledge
Meg replied to The Rooster's topic in Stormlight Archive
About the Dawnchant I'm with you. But Way of Kings? I'm unsure; there must be at least 3 those books around. 1. The one Gavilar owned and now is Dalinar's. 2. The Envisagers must have one: 3. Shallan('s father) has one. Maybe the Envisagers have (or at least had) access to the Vanrial.- 52 replies

Vorinism and the Decline of Historic Knowledge

IIRC (what includes that I err) BS said that Odium didn't invest much because of his nature. Though "Odium has his fingers in a LOT of things." this statement doesn't imply he does much investing. Did BS confirm this yet?- 52 replies

Or that dead king had been Tanavast and when the sailor returned and told that story, the KR lost their believes (-> Recreance) and the people lost their believe giving room for the Hierocracy to develop. That said with a half-smile. I, personally, don't see that the Recreance-vision and also the Honor-vision are "more surreal" than the others. They all have sort of a "surreal" feeling, which fits with being visions. That Dalinar didn't know about that keep is insignificant (did he ever really search for clues about Feverstone Keep? I don't think so, IIRC he waits for Jasnah after asking Navani, who herself didn't know) . Furthermore you're implying that Honor/Tanavast died before the Last Desolation. But you're only "evidence" is that story Hoid told Kal. I read that story that it shows what might happen if people are too obedient. Blindly following any other person is, uhm, stupid and sometimes deadly.

I don't believe so as for I'm quite sure that goblet was not near enough to her when she made her sketch of the room, and re-reading that scene I'm under the impression that she (kind of) feels that cryptics and not accidentally touches the goblet. (Emphasizes mine) I'm fairly sure: yes. And Rock can even see Syl: Aside from that I had some thoughts about that gem/flushing-phenomen. Another comparison: A gem with an imprisoned flamespren doesn't become a flamespren itself. The physical feeling one gets holding that gem stays the same, one's not touching a flamespren now. So the only thing I could think about is, that a spren (for your theory an odiumspren) is imprisoned in a Shardblade, but that seems a bit doubtful for me (though it might be the case as for "nowadays" the artifabrians yet were not able to understand how Shardblades/-plates had been made).

Yet, we don't know for sure that cryptics can't be seen in the Physical Realm. Yet, we only know that at the moment there are no people who consciously can see them. But they can be felt: As for your second paragraph: Even if a spren were trapped in that gem, this spren may allow a relationship between Shardblade and Bearer (I don't think so because Blades and Plates can be lent). My thought on this is that if they "work together officially" after taking up the relationship it allows the holder to let the Blade vanish and summon. Otherwise (I could think of that) for example those lent blades don't vanish when used not by the original owner. Or that relationship-flush happens every time the Blade changes its bearer and is not in any way really that significant as someone might think. But another question: What in Shadesmar may be the spren? The beads or the flames? Edit: Is there a discrepancy about Shadesmar in the Deathquote and Shallan's description? Deathquote: I can see a distant sun, dark and cold, Shallan: small white sun that hung on the horizon, too far away. Or does "small white sun" can be described as "sun, dark and cold" too? I apologizes for such questions, for English natives they might feel stupid, but sometimes I'm not sure with such little indifferences.

Theory: Honorspren, Cryptics, and the Ten Essences
Meg replied to skaa's topic in Stormlight Archive
Unfortunately this is right, I can't decipher what you added. -
One of my favorite (non-BS) characters is "Garrett" (so he's called in the German translation) from The Chronicles of Siara (Alexey Pehov). I don't speak Russian so I can't compare (like English/German) but the German translation is very very good to read and I think it fits the tune of the book well (if not, I like it anyways). If I'm trying to read TWoK in German, I am angry after a few pages for that German translation is too flatulent for my liking. The original book seems more serious, and not in any way flatulent and thus I love it (aside from the content ).
