  1. The second first: You refer to this one? IIRC BS said that somewhere (I can't find it at the moment) that we will discover what about this "sheet" is but he won't tell us "now". I'm sure he said this when he explained the Windrunner abilities with the sheet from the front, but I don't find it :/. So the linked sheet (right word?) may indeed have a relation to the symbols of the cryptics. About Shallan: Thanks for your further explanation. I'd have loved BS if he would have told us, whether the "the three spheres (inside (the goblet dropped) to the nightstand’s flooded top)", were dim or not after the Soulcasting, because I wonder where the Stormlight Shallan used there, might have come from. Another question comes up in my mind: The bead Shallan's holding while in Shadesmar -- the one that gets hot -- may this be the "Shadesmarian equivalent" of the goblet? Are the beads in Shadesmar then all equivalents of things (and persons?) of the physical realm? That's a few random thoughts (whilst I'm not really awake yet ). edit: better with quotes
  2. This is related, too?
  3. I may have missed something (or not or misunderstood), but I read these words "I can change ..." as coming from one of the Cryptics not from the goblet. This was my earlier impression and now, knowing more about Syl's development (she seemed to stay in a kind of "mind stasis" (lacking a better description) before she ran about Kal and was attracted by him and his actions what led to her following and bonding with him and gaining more and more sentience), I've read it as for the Cryptics could change (gaining more sentience and conscience of the physical world too). Also, Jasnah called Shallan an "idiot girl" because she entered Shadesmar "with only a little dim sphere", what implies to me that entering Shadesmar has quite a cost paid in Stormlight. I apologize if I got this wrong (what happens to me quite too often).
  4. I need a little help here for my understanding. The BS-quote said: (emphasizes mine) So, where do you get this idea: Why should the part with the Metalminds be the "greater" portion if it's really the littler (?) part? And, too, I read this quote above that the soul jumps one time and then stays. I mean: First comes the "cut", then the "jump" (of the soul) and then the regrowing/healing. And the feeding with Stormlight only affects the part with the soul. Or do you think, if there's no feeding, the soul leaves it's part and searches for another part to jump to?
  5. There are some threads about this topic indeed: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/2939-theory-there-are-no-universal-soulcasters/ http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/1762-theory-the-soulcaster-was-a-fake/ After rereading some parts of TWoK I'll tend to believe what Jasnah states: TWoK, Chapter 72 Nonetheless I'm suspect of the ardentia (as Hoser mentioned) too. This "fall of the Hierocracy" has not been such a "destruction" to the religion than it is showed to the people. That rises the question who owns the Soulcasters that the ardents work with? The ardentia? Some Brightlords? Why the secrecy?
  6. But maybe Taln simply knew where he was? Even Dalinar recognized Kholinar in his visions though it changed appearance throughout the centuries. And for Hoid: He really had enough time -- he of all -- to learn each and every language that shows up in the cosmere. He was there before the "big shattering". Maybe he just created one or another of this languages. And isn't he able to use a metalmind? I think, Hoid is "out of this discussion". And what about Galladon, Demoux and this third person who are searching for Hoid on Roshar? IIRC worldhopping includes a transfer through Shadesmar. Why didn't they (at least not all of them) learn to speak "without a hint of accent" then? "Worse" implies (to me) that the other two don't speak Selay good (only better than the third man). Maybe I've missed something but I don't see why these three 17th-Sharders and Worldhoppers didn't benefit from the same knowledge "base" than Hoid or the Heralds. And do we know whether the languages aren't probably spread over the cosmere? Surely, it has it's own name on each world.
  7. He did? When? Where?
  8. I'm curious about news (like this Windrunner heralds (^^)), but had took the earlier statement from BS that "this 10 heartbeats mean what we think they mean" (paraphrased) as "given proof" for Shallan possessing a Shardblade. But: The more the merrier, and if it's not a 'roundabout'-statement, I'd be happy (not to mention the fact that I hunger for new informations).
  9. Me and luck with raffles -- that's two different worlds. But I try. I'd really be happy to win such an ARC book.
  10. I hope I didn't miss this conclusion somewhere but while reading Dalinar's assets an idea popped up in my mind: Shallan ... "a Shardblade" ... --> Renarin "Plate" (but no Blade) -> May Renarin get Shallan's Blade? A side note: "Elite squad of former bridgemen (== Bridge Four)" == Cobalt Guard now (because Dalinar sent the rest of his remaining Cobalt Guard to expand the King's Guard. Or did you mean the King's Guard here (because for sure at least most of them are Dalinar's loyal followers?).

At first: This was not (!) your thing, it's my lack (of getting in - is this understandable?). There is really no need for you to say sorry. Second: For short: Thanks a lot for giving me more food to think about.
  12. I tried to, because I'm sure I've read something like "ah, truthspren, yes, you can call them so until the right name is given". I failed . Maybe I'm mixing up something again.

    Chronology

That question about how much time was spent during "The Way of Kings" piqued myself too. I apologize that I couldn't really follow your post so I tried to approach that problem in another way. One thing itched me since I've read it: Peter in the TWG Archive Thread My thoughts: Chapter 1 (5 years later [after Gavilar's death]) == Chapter 47 (1 year ago) == Chapter 51 (1 year ago) That matches with the generally given "six years on the Shattered Plains" (5 + 1 = 6). And: Chapter 1 (5 years after Gavilar's death) --> Chapter 2 (8 month later) --> Chapter 47/51 (1 year ago) Chapter 2 is when Kal was assigned to Bridge Four, this is -- in my opinion and understanding -- the beginning of the main story of TWoK (for me Prelude, Prologue, Interludes and Epilogue are sort of additional information). Under this premise Chapter 2 to 75 span two month (1 year - 8 month = 2 month) (eventually a bit more), at least for the people on the Shattered Plains. I've left Shallan more or less aside but I think her (and Jasnah's) timespan in Kharbranth proceeds simultaneous. Chapter 8 reads: And in Chapter 6 Kaladin thinks: This is all but the same wording what makes me think that Shallan arrived in Kharbranth around the same time when Kal became a bridgemen. I'd like to dig deeper but not today. PS: If sailing is the "normal" way to travel from Kharbranth to the Shattered Plains I would not be surprised if Jasnah and Shallan will share one ship with Szeth (except Taravangian has other ways to get Szeth to the Shattered Plains).
  14. Welcome! Michael Stackpole: Of Limited Loyality I "want" to read: SA2 I'll read: Towers of Midnight, RJ + BS At the moment definitely: The Way of Kings, BS
  15. Please don't feel insulted, I might lack some subtlety in the wordings there, but (because) I don't see why BS's statement does not count as given explanation that Honorblades == Shardblades (so a type of). Please help me with this.
  16. About Szeth: source: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/2383-qa-with-brandon-sanderson/?view=findpost&p=42214 source: http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=697#24 source: http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=949#12 I hope that helps a bit about Szeth.
  17. Test, too . I hope it works. Many thanks for help.
  18. Please bear with me but this editor is REDACTED. I see writing this posting what the "real problem" is: Especially around quotes it's REDACTED. I hate it when the text gets so squashed. That's hard to read (for grandmas with bad eyes ). Why doesn't it take my "returns". The posts get so crowded. And neither in the true text version nor in the wysiwyg-version the result after sending the post is the same than it was shown to me in the preview. *cry* Is there a "workaround" or something else? But the rest of the new forum is fine and I got used to it quickly. Especially I'm happy that now I see in which threads I posted something. With this new symbols it's far more clear.

    Chronology

Again I've found something that confuses me. Shallan says in Chapter 29: Everyone else in TWoK speaks of the assassination of Gavilar as "six years ago." Did I miss something? Is it a typo? Do I do hair-splitting again? You're right about this but at least the Shin seem to have the same calendar: I'm sure that fits with the other time designations.
  20. That's a real difficult question. Most of the characters are sooooo young. Maybe I'd take Hoid, Galladon or Teft. I really like Susebron, because he was sooooo innocent. But -- he's married and no longer innocent.
  21. Ooops, I never thought this way.
  22. I apologize for not getting my question good worded. I'm confused why the chronology adds "EoS" to this dates (i.e. "now" = 1173 EoS). I understood that "day 0" was after the Day of Recreance (which had been around 3.327 years after the Aharietiam == 3.327 EoS). Wouldn't it be a possibility to name it "1173 New Rosharian Calendar" or something like this? Is this understandable? :/
  23. Thanks . It sounds plausible that this vision may be set in a time before the Heralds left. Anyway that leaves my main question: If Kabsal is right, the Era of Solitude began after the leave of the Heralds at Aharietiam.
  24. Ah, I wasn't sure whether The Day of Recreance was defined here the day 0 (or better: 0 minus 1). Maybe this should be added to the chronology? Yes, it was . Starfalls is the chapter when Dalinar was Heb and the two Knights Radiant came for help.
  25. Hey there I'm confused about the chronology of/on Roshar given in TWoK. Kabsal (I admit that it's not sure whether his statements are valid) told Shallan: The last part before my emphasizes might be evidence that Kabsal's statement isn't right (I don't see that the Heralds had gone to heaven after they left the Oathpact.) But that might be an explanation ardents give for the absence of the Heralds. Given that he's not lying, he said that Mankind entered the Era of Solitude just after the Aharietiam. So the dates given are not dates from the Era of Solitude in it's entirety, what is suggested when we write i.e. "1173 EoS". The book takes place in the Era of Solitude but the beginning of the calender is not the beginning of the EoS so I feel it's confusing a little bit. Also we see that during the EoS there are other calenders used previous to this in TWoK (see Chapter 19, Starfalls: "It is Eighth Epoch, three thirty-seven."). This "Eighth Epoch" also is set during the Era of Solitude if Kabsal is right. Please help me clearing up my mind.
