  1. Though you are right about this, wouldn't it be more helpful (and polite) to post an answer like "There are already topics about this" (perhaps with links) or "I think this had already been discussed, did you look for such topics." than only hitting the downvote-button which says nothing but disagreement but not why. This works the other way around the same (with the upvotes). Not really because the votes are anonymous.
  2. I have no knowledge about such forum-software and such things, but my idea is to make a prompt (like when "hide" a posting) when an up-/downvote is made where the voter has to give a short reason. This reason should be shown to the admins/mods only. Is this understandable? (edit: deleting unnecessary first line. )
  3. I don't really remember a "What the..."-moment now. The nearest to this was surely the "healing of Elantris" with Raoden putting the missing line to this "big Aon". But though I really didn't give Taravangian credit for such a behaviour until that specific chapter, I haven't been surprised by this revelation. IIRC I thought something like "Ah yes, that kind old man ..." (give this a sarcastic undertone!) and "What would Jasnah say if she knew ..." (she compared Taravangian with Dalinar and felt similarities ...). (PS/edit: what means "c'mon"?)
  4. Note to Meg: Quote! Always quote and don't forget that posts can be edited later on. I'm kind of disappointed about how you dealt with my question. Instead of giving me an answer, you edited your post (which I foolishly didn't quote) so that readers of this thread don't know why I'm asking this question. And, unlike you said, you didn't leave the *critical* part and the part which contained your supposed conclusion that a corrupted religion is or leads to apostasy (very paraphrased). And there came my question from. But, with or without your edit, I don't have any more interest in an explanation of yours about corrupt religions and apostasy. I'm really sorry for offtopic but one further thing itches me: I wrote what I felt when reading your (now edited) part of that post, and I didn't "kindly leave out" other words.
  5. I'm pretty sure that Brandon said that it is Dalinar but I don't find the source (only a post that says this too). Or is Dalinar the person in the distance. I can't remember . If anybody can help, I'd be grateful.
  6. @some It seems that I lack a lot of knowledge: How do you come up with apostasy now? And, I apologize again, but your answer to my previous post feels sort of overly didactic/precocious. That may be caused by me not being a native English speaker (so that I might misunderstand something). But I dare say that it's more the wording ("In terms of that quote, just read the description ...", "Correlate this to the Apostasy and you understand ..."). I love this community because of it's good mood/tension and it's big tolerance towards *laymen*, and I really hope that will remain common practice.
  7. (emphasizes mine) I don't want to refuse totally this emphasized part but this and other things you stated make me ask: Do you have a special direct connection to Mr. Sanderson so that you really know more than a normal reader and user of this forums, the Coppermind and Theoryland (and other sources of information)? I apologize for being sort of offtopic, but I'm musing about this question since your very first postings.
  8. I've never participated somewhere with a reputation system (only in real life ) and I didn't miss it. Though I was on my way to grow accustomed to it when the reputation overview (in the profile) showed me both, upvotes and downvotes, so that I could see whether a result shown on the posting is really a result of different opinions or not. I'm sad that this overview doesn't work anymore, as for I think this is more effective in the way of "see, there are people that think about your post and then give criticism". Is this understandable? I hope that some new forums-update may provide the former solution again.
  9. I've had that idea of Urithiru being (or that it had been) in the Pure Lake before. Then it must be a sunken city now as for Nohadon walked to Urithiru and reached it. Or -- a far stretching idea -- it was moved from Roshar into Shadesmar after Nohadon's journey. But such thoughts are far to abstract for myself.
  10. It's in the book: TWoK Interlude 3
  11. At first thanks for your work. I tried to restrain myself but I can't, because I haven't been that wrong than it seemed when I thought about Creation or Growing of new Shardplates.
  12. Because it relates to this topic I'm jumping from there back to this thread, as for I'm with FlashWrogan: I, too, think that "unite them" means unite and re-create the Orders of the Knights Radiant. This, too, because I also believe that each Order has it's unique talents that are all needed in the coming battle. I don't refuse that probably each KR wore Shardplate and -blade, but I'm sure that not each of the KR-Orders are (only) fighters but mostly those in Alethela (which may have been the windrunners and the stormwards). May be I missed some new information, if so I apologize.
  13. As now the FAQ-project is started may I suggest to make the Solicitation-threads sticky in each (sub)forum (I never know the exact word)?
  14. I see, hidden in the spoilers. May I ask: Is there any need to further hide such an information as spoilers or can it be quoted now?
  15. I agree. Here, too. I'm sure I've read such a statement but I'm unable to rediscover it.
  16. Oh, I apologize. I didn't mean you should do it yourself.
  17. You're right . I'll change it, but I'm sure, you could do it yourself (even I learned how to "wiky" ).
  18. Taravangian says to Szeth:
  19. Yes, I bought TWoK, Mistborn Trilogy, Warbreaker and Elantris (all as paperbacks). But I see that you're right and there are some odd offers at amazon for that books.
  20. I bought all my BS-books at amazon.de but it's not that long ago (summer 2012).
  21. Though it's off topic again I'd like to apologize because of my stubbornness in my posts about Shallan. Yesterday evening I've read a bit more than only chapter 46 and in chapter 48 I found what I missed before: I'm sorry.
  22. Ooops, Szeth's Blade. I totally forgot about this and surely it upsets the balance. And, too, I ignored the fact that Szeth was sometimes ordered to leave victims. I'm sorry, I'm really biased when it's about Kaladin. But nobody knows that Szeth is on his way to the Shattered Plains to kill Dalinar. So why should anybody think about Kaladin introducing to Szeth's tactics? Only to be on the safe side? That might be, but not because somebody thinks that Dalinar is in danger but because of Elhokar (he's kind of paranoid about assassins and it was his father murdered by Szeth). One more thing I forgot (Szeth's weapon-less fighting) and I agree that Szeth might be trained in kammar prior to him becoming Truthless. I think we agree that Kaladin can use/hold more (and longer) Stormlight. So this would be an advantage for him because Szeth might not be able to struck (or tap) him with his Shardblade? As for the latter: As Cheese pointed out, Szeth too is a genius at close combat. I see Kal's chances wane. I don't like this. If his better ability to hold Stormlight would result in sort of an immunity to the Shardblade this would make Szeth "weapon-less" while Kaladin could remain his spear. A little advantage for Kal again. Another little thing might be, that Kaladin -- again -- would "fight to defend and protect" (Dalinar), what means he is "in his element" while Szeth "only" does his duty. I'm sorry I omitted such a lot of facts.
  23. Uhm, who should learn Kal about Szeth's tactics? They're all dead.
  24. Sorry for my late answer. Though I'm spending far too much time hanging around here I missed your reply. I don't understand this: "that was somehow damaged by not Splintered ..."? Other than others I'm fairly sure that the conflict on Roshar is mostly one between Honor and Odium. In my opinion Cultivation is more passive and what acts passive might not be a threat for Odium and it might not be (so easily) touched by Odium. _______________ I added a No. 4 to the OP: Has anybody any thoughts about this?
  25. My gut says: My money is on Kaladin because I'm sure he's the better and more experienced fighter than Szeth. Kaladin joined army at around 15 years and stayed there for nearly 4 years. In this time he trained to a maximum and was called one of the best if not the best spearman in Amaram's army. He was Kaladin Stormblessed. After he fought down the unknown Shardbearer and was branded as slave, he didn't fight for 8 month during which he was sold around as slave until he became bridgeman. Weeks later in the chasms he performed a perfect kata, showing that he didn't unlearn anything. Also in The Battle of the Tower he showed his skill. Szeth is a Shin. We don't know whether he was a Shin soldier before he was named Truthless. Given he was not a soldier I'm sure he learned to fight after his "fall" so nearly seven years ago. Then he did some murders before he assassinated Gavilar (and, yes, he showed skill in this fight). Then there were five years (IIRC) when he didn't fight. Later, killing through the list that Taravangian gave him, at least killing Hananavar (sp?) he showed skill too. But all things considered Kaladin has more fighting experience. If a fight between Kal and Szeth would happen indoors maybe Szeth has a little advantage because of his Lashings upsidedown. But outdoors these don't help him (as far as I understood that Lashings-thing). I'm not sure whether I could explain my thoughts well. @OP: Stormlight flees the body when breathing. So can't it be that Szeth isn't able to hold his breath for more than a few minutes while Kaladin managed it? edit and OffTopic: That means that CruCusicesh, the Protector's "display lasted a full ten minutes," that would mean 10 real genuine full ten Rosharian minutes . Not nearly, not around, not more and not less. That's sorta gem in TWoK.
