I'm fairly sure that when Vin drew upon the mists it was something she was capable of doing (without Ruin's earring) but nothing done consciously by Preservation. The mist were out there and Vin was able to use them. This doesn't have anything to do with Preservations consciousness. I'm sure I too remember such a quote and it's not very old, though I could err. Searching around I found this: And another interesting tidbit (I think): And this one: (Annotation: I think this is one of the most important quotes ever.) And a last one on the Power of Creation: And this: In summary I'd say: Adonalsium was the "total", it was shattered into 16 Shards/Intents. Adonalsium itself could have provided each of the magic systems in the Cosmere (and supposably more/others). Each Shard interprets the Power of Creation depending on its Intent and their different "magic systems" are based on/related to their Shards interpretations. So I think each Shard kind of could use or provide each magic system -- more or less useful to the people (example: A surgebinder who burned a bead of Lerasium. He will not automatically know about the Three Metallic Arts nor have the right metals to use. Also he might have problems to access the powers of “pure Preservation” on Roshar and thus will be very weak in Allomancy.)

Parshendi, the return of KR, and humans on Roshar
Meg replied to FirstSelector's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hid did? What? Is there any evidence? From the book? A quote from BS? "The enemy" was mentioned once, so far you are right, but not in a vision but rather in the Prelude:- 22 replies

@Argent: see Kurkistan's post which helped describe my problem. @Kurkistan: Thanks a lot!

I didn't upgrade my browser recently but it's not any longer possible to use 'return' to split a quote. The editor just makes new lines inside the quote. Anyone has an idea about this?

I admit that I didn't read the posts following to my quote very intensively but I wanted to say: Why are "you" sure she already knows of her Transportation ability?

Where is the Hell described in the prologue?
Meg replied to Swimmingly's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This sounds good, but ... there is this from Geranid and her husband: And the talks about the Callings, for example: or Though we don't really know much about the Vorin believes -- we don't even know where that word "Vorin" derives from (in-world, so to speak) -- it seems as if the Tranquiline Halls (if they were to be Hell/Damnation now) wouldn't really be something physical. This place seems to exist in the Spiritual Realm. But a planet is something physical, is it (or: isn't it [i'm not sure, which is the right ending])? So I kind of belief that the Tranquiline Halls are not something physical -> not a planet -> not Braize. Okay, now one could ask how humankind could exist in the Tranquiline Halls if my assumption is right that it's not physical. In my understanding there are no "bodies" in the Spirtual Realm. Could it be that Honor created the bodies (== humans) when he saw that he and his "folks" couldn't stay in the Tranquiline Halls and then -- now with bodies -- they came to Roshar? He might have put the spiritual part of "men" together with their "forms/ideals" from the cognitive part to create Rosharan humans. I'm rambling, sorry. -
I apologize for being annoying, but I didn't find a source myself. Can anybody help me?

I'm not sure. At least Lift would have to ingest a piece of Lerasium, but where should she get it? And then the question whether Rosharan metals are "allomancy-able".

I'd like to throw in that Nohadon only said that "not all spren are as discerning as honorspren" (paraphrased) and in addition this older information: I'd like to point out that emphasized part. I'm really curious to learn more about spren, bonding, the Nahel bond, The Ring and all this things .
-
Thanks Weiry. I don't read this scene as if the Almighty was surprised about the Knights Radiant -- if anything he was surprised about how they were formed and the Nahel bond. I might have misunderstood that sentence "It's implied that the KR were a surprise even for The Almighty." as I understand it like "The Almighty was surprised about the existence of the Knights Radiant." And we know that the Almighty knew about them: I always understood this part as the Almighty did know about the Knights Radiant and also what they were and their tasks. He told Dalinar the First Ideal, so he knew about the Ideals. btw: We never got a better transcription of this short scene?

(1) Do we already know for sure that Wyndle is 100% of Cultivation (2) Where is this implied?

No, I don't mind. I bought it from Amazon, too, two or three months ago. Thus I hoped I got a 1th edition, too, after I read your post. IIRC Amazon didn't sell it directly, if this is understandable. I just searched Amazon again, but I can't trace back, why I remember this. As a side note: "Vom Hersteller empfohlenes Alter: 14 - 18 Jahre" = recommended age: 14 to 18 years. Found on the amazon.de description of TWoK. On amazon.com there's no such a "recommendation".
-
Thanks a very lot! I just hoped, but I got a 4th edition.
-
Part of The Ring? You mean, like Wyndle (if he was part, he also could have been chosen without being involved in The Ring)? Either way, I'm quite sure Syl as a whole didn't leave Roshar nor the Physical Realm. My idea is that she "barbarized" and thus lost her mind/consciousness (perhaps because the lost of a bond also made her loose the connection between the Physical and the Cognitive Realm).

I never thought about which edition of books I have, how can I see/check this?
-
I apologize to have to cut wholes in your idea. Because I'm not that a good writer I'll throw out some quotes. These are only a few examples I got from looking through the WoT-Theorybase using the tag "Heralds". I don't want to seem crude but I'll leave you with this. PS: upvote for using "ageless" instead of immortal.

IIRC it has been theorized that Shallan didn't kill her father but assumed responsibility for his death. It would be interesting to know whether the cryptics have knowledge about somebody's past so they accept the truth because it is the truth -- or do they accept "every hidden truth" one reveals to them. With "every hidden truth" I try to say: everything one strongly believes to be true but it is not necessary to be the objective truth. Is this understandable?

I forgot to mention this. I really like the writing style exactly because of what Morsk and Bookspren said.

Fortunately I started my BS-career () with Elantris and Warbreaker (which I would suggest for BS-beginners) and not with Mistborn, otherwise I think I would have stopped reading TWoK during the Prologue, though the Prelude caught me. I love TWoK for its characters (even those I don't prefer), Roshar, surely the spren and making me curious about Roshar's history as well as it's future.
-
Upvote, I just wanted to say the same. Though I'm not convinced that the Heralds predated the arrival of mankind on Roshar, they surely existed prior to the Silver Kingdoms. Therefore: + for (1). Unfortunately I can only give one upvote, otherwise I'd give you a second for (2). Darkness resembling the Makabaki results from when this description is done: "now". And "now" nobody yet knows of the real origins of mankind.

Hm, no, the last task on Szeth's (original) list was Taravangian. Only then Taravangian told him to kill Dalinar. I'm sure the Azish Prime(s) were on the original list. After the death of the second Prime had been "weeks" until Lift's Interlude settles. Windy or anybody can give me the source for "Interludes out of time"? on topic: 1. I think: no 2. no 3. wrong (see above) 4. pass 5. pass (I don't know )

Ah, Mailliw, sorry, I cut this quote out of a longer quote (you can see it if you look at the source). The mentioned remnants are those from (the shattered) Devotion and Dominion on Sel. I apologize for the confusion. Thus I think that the mindless spren on Roshar aren't of Odium, too.

BS told us about this question: If I understand this right the order would be: liquid -> gas -> solid?
-
Fortunately I don't mind being (kind of) silly. And unfortunately I mostly disagree with your post. But it's about feelings and observations, so nothing objectively seen and it's not worth debating about sentimental impressions.

Dalinar thought in his vision that "it was too dark to see the fearspren he suspected were climbing up through the ground." This tells us that Dalinar is aware of spren though there were no spren mentioned linked to Dalinar elsewhere in TWoK. But, uh, this is a side note . So you're right, he only "suspected" there were spren. I for one think that the "lack of spren" in Dalinar's visions is not important. We know that there were spren on Roshar before Honor and Cultivation went there: So there were spren, Splinters of Adonalsium, on Roshar prior to Honor and Cultivation's arrival. I'm quite sure they weren't gone while Honor lived there. Based on this information I think the seemingly "lack" of spren is only a "lack" of mentioning. We already knew that Roshar hadn't had the same problem with "mindless Shard-power" as had Sel. I mention this because by typing this post I found me asking: Did those Splinters of Adonalsium (spren), too, act as release valves? I refer to this information: I want to say: Spren were and are an important part of Roshar, and this makes me still more confident in my thinking that they just hadn't been mentioned in the visions told in TWoK. There were more important things for Honor to tell to Dalinar. Is this understandable?
