Yup. But I didn't misunderstand it in the way you assume I misunderstood it. I missed the "1 order per night" part, and thought that if everyone put in a kill order, each one had a 50% chance of success. Only if the Copper actually chooses to fill this turn, which there's always a possibility they don't for this reason alone.

I have a vague memory of people being bloodthirsty in LG48. It's been long enough, though, that I could be wrong. Still, I stand by my point. I don't like this suggestion to not vote. Not voting makes it easier for the elims to control the vote. With the rules (names of voters not being included in the writeup) it makes it way easier to hide as a vote manipulator. Also, role madness means we likely have plenty of manipulations, so the copper won't have that hard of a time hiding.

Are you voting or claiming?? Still working through the rules, but I suggest caution when it comes to using the more aggressive generic abilities. RNG is a fickle mistress and if half of us decide wanton murder is the way to go, we could end up with entirely too many dead players.

Mid-Range Game 58 - To Kill a Skyeel

Hello everyone. I'm pulling the IM card here and will be closing this turn. The night turn will be posted when TUN has the chance tomorrow. -
Mid-Range Game 58 - To Kill a Skyeel
Elandera replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hello! I'm a little late with this, but it was a pretty busy day at work and I finally have a moment to look at my notifications. In regards to codes, any code that can allow you to communicate secretly with a single person when PMs are closed is not allowed. This is usually in regards to sharing new information/ideas. I will say that for this game, if there is a situation like what the GM said ("If I say this, do this"), I won't count that as a code. If you feel something crosses the border into code territory, please ping me here or in Discord (the latter if its more urgent). -
I'll join as Eran. I must avenge the death of my grandmother, who was killed unjustly for being a pewter ferring. Edit: I have been informed this is a prequel, so instead I'll be Eran, twin sister of Era, who also claims to have been alive for an unreasonable amount of time.

Fun game everyone! A special shout out to @DrakeMarshall for maintaining the writing style. I had enough variety in my own diction before that yours worked well. Thanks to Kas for running this. Despite the struggles, I enjoyed having at least some small role to continue playing even after being taken by a Kandra.

This is a really good point. We tried to balance your knowledge of the elims with the need for them to stay alive long enough for Calamity to avoid suspicion. It worked okay-ish in the end, but it's definitely not ideal and not something I'd suggest in the future. This was absolutely a misstep in the game balance. My concern was trying to keep Calamity from being a major target, as SK roles normally are in games. Historically, it's nearly impossible to win as an SK without serious dedication and buckets of luck. The goal of Calamity was to find a way to work around that problem. If Calamity's presence was known as a threat to village, any sign of a neutral would likely have led to a role exe. I traditionally dislike those, and so wanted to balance against that. However, we absolutely went too far in not letting the village know there may be another threat outside of the traditional elim team. This was definitely a role that had to be carefully chosen rather than simply RNG assigned, which can be dangerous (take note, any future GMs). You're right that it only worked because of the player who ended up with Calamity. Devo did a fantastic job keeping it as balanced as she did, though I know it can't have been easy. Overall, I don't suggest this kind of role in other games. It might have worked better as a known (and small) neutral faction rather than a single player working as an unknown neutral. I also want to add that I am very proud of all of you for not exing based on roles. I know that TJ balanced for that, but with my history, it's good to know our meta is moving away from that. However, this does offer a good reminder to take caution when considering role claims, especially in a blackout game. It shouldn't encourage people to exe simply because of a claim (there were good examples of all alignments faking a claim for various reasons), but nor should claims be 100% trusted. I say this not as an excuse for the problems this game had (there were many that should have been caught), but as a general caution when approaching games. Like Araris's stance on PM safety.

Thanks to TJ for running this game. Despite some of the issues that arose, the general feel I get is that people still enjoyed the game. And that, after all, is the point of things. Before this gets too active, please remember to be courteous and polite in your posts. Feel free to point out potential flaws so that future GMs and players can learn, but take care to not phrase posts in a way that put down any individual. GMs put a lot of work into games, and it can be difficult to see all of the potential problems with mechanics. Despite the frustration and chaos, the game did balance well in the end. Regarding the flipless nature at the beginning, we were actively pursuing a fix in the case that Archer survived. I don't take rule changes mid-game lightly, though. The nature of blackout does offer some amount of fudging there, but there is the potential for even worse balance issues. In this case, both TJ and I agreed something would need to change if the elims could continue obscuring all execution flips, and we developed a back-up plan. Luckily, that didn't need to happen because Archer subsequently died. Again, remember the rules, and keep focused on the goal of SE. To have fun. Congratulations to Devo for her win. It was well-deserved.

And will these be reskinned to Sanderson theme, or will you be needing a pass?

Just to clarify, I removed your current LG slot from inactivity. Would you like a slot in addition to that one? This has been added.

Hello, just popping by again to say hello since it's been a few cycles. If you have questions, concerns, or simply need to rant/vent a bit, ping me in your GM PM (or on Discord if it's an emergent situation). I'm always willing to listen and help as best I can. After all, I am your friendly neighborhood Spider-IM (no relation to any -ims located on Roshar).

Before I start, I will clarify I am running on about 4 hours of sleep and woke up to this, so I apologize if any of my response is extra terse. Not angry, just not mincing words. I want to remind everyone of a few rules. Please keep arguments about the game and not about each other. It is perfectly okay if someone else doesn't agree with your style. It's okay to debate about what tactics you think are most useful. It is not okay to start personal attacks. Once again, if you find yourself being drawn into a potentially explosive argument (especially if it diverts away from relevant game arguments), step away. Finally: Arguments from other players likely come from a place of experience, which has influenced their way of thinking. There is no one set way to approach a game. That is, after all, why there's a vote. People get to voice and act on their own opinion. If you find you need to vent, please come to me in a PM. I'd much rather it there than in the thread where things may get out of control and break down the enjoyment of the game as a whole.

This is not skirting (nor breaking) the rules. Every player has an alignment (it would be weird if there was a non-alignment alignment...), and as TJ as pointed out a few times, a claim is a claim is a claim, and it's not using wording from the PM.

Hello everyone, just popping in to remind people that if you need to take a break, please do. Step back and breathe for a minute, as this is a game. I understand some elements may be extra frustrating, but we're still only in cycle three. Things can change. The ending is not set. We're not in the Infinity War facing only one outcome of 14 million in which you win. I will also add that, as a player who often cannot keep up with big threads, I don't consider it the responsibility of other players to temper their post count just because I can't keep up. This is especially the case considering my work schedule means I'm awake while most people (Kas and Aman being the exceptions in this case) are asleep. Understand not everyone is in the same time zone or operates within the same hours. For some players, the only time they can talk is while everyone else is sleeping. This sort of situation is what players outside US time zones often find daily, in every single game. The problem, as has been pointed out, is aggravated by a lack of PMs. That being said, if you do find yourself in quick back-and-forths with other players, please keep it game-relevant. A little outside chat is fine, but each post should have some relevance to the game so that those waking up to find a few pages to read won't have to slog through a dozen or more posts that don't have any bearing on the game. Also, please don't feel bad for contributing. That is, after all, what this game is about. Remember all those times where games have had low activity and getting reads or information on anyone was worse than trying to get the Infinity Gauntlet away from Thanos. Too much activity (especially when it's active discussion about the game) is better than nothing, as it gives you something to analyze.

Sorry, Striker, but I'm going to have to back out of the game. I found out I'm starting to train next week, so I have to be on my best behavior at work, which means limiting my time on SE too much to play. Karval, agent of chaos, will have to wait for another game.

I'll say that so long as you aren't using the specific wording of your PM, but rephrasing and paraphrasing, it's not against the rules.

Hello! Just stopping by to remind you that I am your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-IM this game. Please message me if you have any concerns, questions, or just need to rant for a minute. I'll be watching the thread, but unlike Spider-Man, I do not have spidey sense. If you see something might need some mediation, please bring it to my attention and I'll respond as quickly as I can. Thank you!

You currently have 3 LG slots, and one each of MR and QF (one LG and the latter two don't have descriptions). Do you want one more in each? And if so, do you have ruleset ideas for them?

Mid-Range Game 55: Sudden but Inevitable Betrayal
Elandera replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
And the elim streak continues! I once again congratulate Matrim, Devo, and Archer, as well as the Alliance members, Ashbringer and The Unknown Aon, for their victories. This was a fun game with a fantastic setting (even though 99.9% of players didn't understand the references...) for an SE style game. I might adjust the rules to fit within one of the Sanderson worlds eventually. Anyway, thanks again to everyone who played! Quick-Fix 57 - The Infiltrators of Elantris
Elandera replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
It seems we had quite the elim win streak! Congratulations to Archer and Danex (who seem to be a great elim team combo, if this and LG81 are anything to judge), for their victory and quashing of the Elantrian scourge. Thanks to The Unknown Aon for GMing. Though there were challenges with a small player base, it was still a great game. Congratulations to Araris, Mage, and Sart, as well as Kasimir, for their wins during this battle between Feruchemists and Allomancers. Though it was small, it was active and exciting. What a fantastic continuation of the battle between the Heritage and Glory factions! Thanks, Matrim, for running this game and honoring me by rerunning (and fixing) my ruleset. Congratulations to the Heritage Faction (TJ, SeaDragonet, and Steeldancer) for reclaiming what was lost. Maybe the Glory Faction will have another chance to fight back...
