  1. Yeah I don't think "storm" is used metaphorically. If you look at the quotes I gave in the first post, storm is repeated. The only thing that makes sense is that there were storms of odium before, but without spren. The storms were just for destruction. The parshmen were changing in a different way, tho it must have been also something on large scale... According to the diagram, the Unmade are not all intelligent. So I think the unmade influence is not very direct - e.g. Death rattles, the Thrill. Jasnah world hopping - I don't think so. Just going to shadesmar does not mean you can go from there to other worlds, I think there are only few places in there you can worldhop, and I don't think she gathered that knowledge in such a short time - remember she could not explain shadesmar at the beginning of the book, even tho' she had years to talk to Ivory about it. So I think the backpack is from someone else she met in Shadesmar. But again I can't explain why she exited in the middle of nowhere, after travelling so much in Shadesmar. Or if someone was chasing her... who or why couldn't they follow her in physical? Maybe odium spren, that any harm her in physical???
  2. 1) Almighty "You're so convinced that there is no God" "The Almighty is -" "Oh," Wit said, "I don't mean the Almighty. Tanavast was a fine" ... So: Almighty == Tanavast => the God Wit was talking about is Honor? Can this mean that actually Honor was not splintered, the shard is actually OK, it's only Tanavast that died? And the champion would be someone that will take the shard and compete with Rayse+Odium combo? 2) The Desolation "A storm is coming, a terrible storm. It will bring the Voidbringers to -" "Already here" ... "The storm has come already? The parshmen have transformed?" "Yes and no" .... "That's not how it happened in the past" So: in the past, there was a storm, and the parshmen were transformed. Now, we have a storm, and the parshmen are being transformed *by* the storm. This begs the question - how were parshmen transformed in the past??? 3) Elsecalling "Did you need to Elsecall this far out in the middle of nowhere?" "I was somewhat pressed at the time of my escape. I'm lucky to be here at all" What is this about? It can't be about surviving the boat - clearly she travelled a lot in Shadesmar, she visited the highsprens (probably in their city). So what is this about? What did she came out in the middle of nowhere? Was she *escaping* Shadesmar? Was someone after her in Shadesmar? 4) The backpack When she exits Shadesmar, she has a backpack. Where from? Was maybe this not her first exit from Shadesmar after the boat? Or did she meet some other human being in Shadesmar which gave her the backpack??
  3. renarin was bound to both glys and the dead spren-shardblade when arriving in urithiru
  4. @maxal I am actually actually an Adolin fan, one that for example hopes there won't be any Kaladin-Shallan shenanigans. And I also hope he'll become a Radiant. But I don't see him "broken" as I see Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar or Renarin. I see him way more "normal", w/o any psychological issues.
  5. i don't actually think that the requirements for attraction of spren are the same, because bondsmiths clearly attract different types of spren. e.g. there was no stormfather bonded to the 3 bondsmiths before, there were another spren(s), possibly not of honor. and i don't think all those spren are "attracted" by "i will bind, and not divide" - not even stormfather was "attracted" by that (even tho` he's the one sending the "you must bind them" message - because he's required to, not because he agrees, as he said) - but rather stormfather <agreed> to be bounded and accepted those words for a level-up. EDIT: he was like: fine, i'll let you bind me, and you'll be a "bondsmith" - because you can't be any other type of KR since i'm not in the "type" chart. windrunner: honorspren lightweaver: cryptics ... bondsmith: any other type of spren (that can bind, called probably traitor gods by parshendi)
  6. Something similar happened with kal & syl - syl was basically dead. But when she came back, kal did not restart at L1, he continued to L3. So i think similarly Shallan was L2 at start of twok, could use shardblade, and could do illusions too, but as Brandon Sanderson says about perception - not being aware that she can do it => she won't do it. When she spoke the truth from TWoK, she did not restart, but continue her leveling. And since it's assumed she's now L4, it means that as a kid she spoke the first ideal + 1 truth. My personal opinion is that cryptics give you shardblade after the 1st oath. Truths will improve on surgebindings. Because cryptics are weird lidat.
  7. i think the diagram says to watch moelach => taravangian records the death rattles "One is almost certainly a traitor to the others. => there will be a traitor KR, a traitor parshman, or a traitor bridgeman. Do we have paragraph 26 or 28 for context?
  8. In what context would you ever see Adolin taking an oath like "I will remember those that have been forgotten" ? Who will he remember? Sadeas ?
  9. nothing/nobody can hold stormlight perfectly, not even voidbringers. I don't think having a "level" chart helps, as I think each type of spren have their own rules. E.g., assuming that Shallan is now L4 as is implied by Brandon, then: - she was L3 for the majority of WoR - she was L2 before her soulcasting in TWoK This means that she used her shardblade to kill her mum at L2.
  10. because honorblades have a lot of investiture from honor. odium/cultivation doesn't want to give their power directly to humans.
  11. * protecting * is not an edgedancer thing. Also, of course Adolin would have jumped in the arena, but Adolin - the master duelist - not an Adolin that has the fits. I meant to say that Adolin if he were in Renarin's condition would not have jumped in. PS: Renarin was a very frustrated person before Glys, most of my examples were indeed after Glys (but not the one with the chasmfiend tho`)
  12. Number 10 is important I think for Honor. If you want to know how many Unmade are, you gotta find out what's the important number for Odium (9?) There are similarities and differences between the Unmade and Stormfather. They are similar because they are on the same "level", meaning they are big "splinters" of one of the 16. The differences is that the Unmade are "full" splinters, whereas Stormfather was created in a somewhat different way - so "technically" they are different kind of spren. Bondsmiths - if you look at the chart, they are very close to Honor just as Truthwatchers are very close to Cultivation. However, Truthwatchers are not binding Cultivation-god-spren, but I think they bind "normal-level" spren. So basically I think the "special" ability of Bondsmiths is to bind higher-level spren (not necessarly "god-spren"), that is not a "certain type". So I don't think that those old 3 bondsmiths were all bound to the same spren, but rather they were bound to 3 different types of "big-level" spren. So how all windrunners are bound to the same type of spren - honorspren - the bondsmiths basically are jokers allowing *something else*. E.g. a bondsmith would be able to bind an unmade? or a void-spren? i guess the big question is - what do they get from that connection? some spren-specific power... ?
  13. The speaking of oaths is a "check" the radiant has to pass in order to gain access to further abilities. However, the "order" of abilities is different for each type of spren. For example, I think that after the 1st oath, cryptics give access to blade, and after truths they give access to surges. 1st oath: shardblade 1st truth: soulcasting, lightweaving 2nd truth: improvements - e.g. sound in lightweaving, better soulcasting (can convince sticks) it's also possible shallan may have given a truth too as a kid, so add +1 truth to the above. Honorspren has a different order, which gives access to shardblade after 3rd oath, after 4th oath probably squires get much better, etc... Honorspren are more "discerning" than other spren, so they give access to shards at a higher level. It's clear than bondsmiths could, in theory, use shards at after the 2nd oath. What is not clear is if radiants need to be "cracked" people in order to be chosen by sprens. Kaladin clearly was scarred (emotionally) when Syl manifested, it's not clear how Shallan was when Pattern appeared (of course she became crazy afterwards), Dalinar also has lots of issues (the guilt for Gavilar's death, which I think was very important in him becoming a radiant, his wife's death, ...), Renarin also is emotionally scarred from his upbringing (his training suffering the blade screaming in his hands, going all alone in the arena and vs chasmfiends, going to bridge4 for training are not things a "normal" person would do). Adolin however is not that crazy. He's easygoing, pretty happy. He wouldn't have jumped in the arena like Renarin did, he would have acted more rational. So while he's got the "good" traits, he's not "crazy". Well, except maybe at the end of WoR, when we are told he "cracked" and killed Sadeas. So maybe this is the point in time when stuff starts to happen for him. The guilt and how he deals with it might be the trigger. Resurrecting a shardblade spren: well, I read the WoB, however I don't totally agree with the "speaking" of words. I mean, the dead spren already "checked" the dead radiant, so if the new radiant is supposed to "replace" the dead radiant, from the spren's point of view, he passed the checks. (replace == radiant clone, same ADN, spren does not know he's different than the dead radiant when it's being "pulled back"). And also, since the spren is in limbo/dead, speaking the oaths has no effect since the spren cannot "check" them. Now, the alternative would be for the new radiant to kind of go where the dead spren is. Maybe i'm bending this to fit Adolin tho. So if the new radiant betrays his own "oaths" (beliefs), he's tormented and spiritually dies, he might find himself in a position where he can "reach" the dead spren, and both of them MAY come back. (the new radiant can reach the dead spren through the blade bond). All being said, I really cannot see Adolin an edgedancer - he's really not that much into remembering people. He can't even remember his girlfriends
  14. Well, maybe that time, even if Odium was strong, the humans were far far more stronger. Instead of the heralds coming to a humanity that did not even know bronze working, maybe that time the radiants had maintained the humans ready. Thus, Odium decided on a different course of battle. Maybe until then, parshendi were never slaves.
  15. Brandon said that last chapter from stormlight archives is somewhere in the 2 books. I put my money on Dalinar's vision at Feverstone Keep, though it could be the vision with the storm.
  16. What I am afraid is for Adolin to be like Gawyn... starts off decent, he then gets dark, then he redeems himself kind of, then he dies in a very stupid way.
  17. I will say this again: Callandor
  18. I wonder if it was odium keeping him from hurting her, protecting her to maker her odiums champion... In any case, her father knew she had a shardblade, so that means Odium knew, right from the start.
  19. There are other ways of breaking Adolin, except Shallarin: people trusting him with stuff, while Adolin knowing he's nothing but a murderer.
  20. I think Elhokar will get better advisers and he will start learning from them.
  21. WoB is that he hasn't yet quantified exactly Nightblood vs. Shardblade. Nightblood feeds on investiture. There are 2 possibilities: * Nightblood completely destroys the spren, since spren is basically investiture. This means *puff* shardblade. However, this would basically "release" the spren from physical and return it to the shardpool. For example, this could be a step in putting back Honor. Also, vs. the voidbringers, it would be destroying the odiumspren possessing them. A thorough use of Nightblood in these conditions would return all invested power to the shards. Which could mean Odium would be free to leave though, and this would make the dragon intervene. * Nightblood cannot destroy heavily invested things such as spren. So shards vs. Nightblood => depends on skill. Remember also evil men are compelled to pull Nightblood, so at least some radiants would be safe maybe
  22. Looks to me it's kaladin getting light from stormwater. Which he did, during the fight with Szeth.
  23. There is no reason to match a honorblade's original herald attributes to the new blade's owner. I even see Kaladin giving Adolin the blade because they are buddies now But really I don't think this will happen My first instinct is to say nobody gets it, since it's too much power left unchecked. However, they can't afford that. They need their numbers. It's only 4 of them. They need to be able to go places quick, and the blade allows them to do that. So they SHOULD use it. But who to use it? * Dalinar is a good candidate, since he has no shards, and it would be useful for him to quickly go to world leaders, make a demo of his powers, and convince them. Not for self-defence, since I think he can sugebind his way of of threats. But I don't think this will be his role. I think he will not leave Urithiru soon. Even for Kholinar, he should rather send Renarin or Elhokar or both there. * One of Kaladin's squires - THE LOPEN! But again, this would already increase one's powers, one who can already use stormlight. * Adolin - makes a lot of sense, because he's a great swordsman, so it's hard for him to lose it in battle, and also he has proven himself as a good guy. Also he's trusted not to run away with it But Adolin is already a shard-bearer, it makes more sense to give it to someone who is not. * Zahel would be an interesting choice, but we don't know his current standing in terms of trust. * One of the Bridge 4 that is not a squire, since he's close to Kaladin and Kaladin can train him in Windrunner's abilities... And here I would like to nominate Shen. This would allow Shen to save his people (the ones that ran away), and form a bridge between them. My top 3 would be Adolin, Shen and Vasher.
  24. * they do look like cryptics, and we've seen other cryptics around * elhokar did start telling himself the truth that he's a bad king * if the spren will return in numbers, then they should watch potential candidates * maybe the cryptics were just "harvesting" something from elhokar, like whatever wyndle was harvesting from people for his gardens. this would not explain though why elhokar would see them * maybe there is something fishy all good points
  25. This is so Taln. Since he does not need oaths, this means that we're gonna see a stoneward. ADOLIN FOR STONEWARD!
