#10: Ishi, the oldest herald (from the pics) - Dalinar is also oldest... pious, guiding -> Dalinar has become pious, and will be guiding the king and the Alethi towards honoring the code. Also, pious matches his talent to receive the visions. I do think it's a really good match for #10, no matter the name of the order. Bondsmiths is not a bad name for the order, given these attributes... but it could also match resolute/builder...

And that would mean dalinar used pressure vs the chasmfiend.

Flying skybreakers make more sense. But now we have no idea where to place bondsmiths I still say it's 10.

Dawnshards spawn Shardblades and shardplate?
marianmi replied to Localconfusi0n's topic in Stormlight Archive
wow, I forgot about these quotes.... So: * Szeth has his powers not from a bond with a spren => from a bond with a dawnshard? Since the dawnshards can bind... ? Is there a difference between dawnshards and herald's swords? Are these the 3 types of shards BS was talking about? - dawnshards (seen at Szeth and Darkness), herald swords (seen at the heralds, then 9 of them abandoned), and human shards? I do not believe heralds took back their swords... * voidish or mortal creature => voidish creatures are not mortal? are voidish creatures then not of physical (i.e. from cognitive?). We don't know that spren are all there is in the cognitive realm... or is Darkness (if not Nalan) a voidish creature (since he is not mortal)? -
Not necessary. It might be like that, since she ended up in water, and seems like Shadesmar has the topo reversed. However, I like to believe she somehow used the Nexus of Truth, while Jasnah used the Nexus of Transition (given that her second surge is Transportation).

I wonder if using Light you could make yourself invisible

" Praise to Yaezir, Kadasix of Kings, may he lead in wisdom." Looks to me pretty clear that HE is a reference to Jezrien. “Herald of kings. May he lead in wisdom. If he ever stops drooling.” This follows and thus references Jezrien. Also, looks to me a minion would not be aware of Jezrien's fate or refer to him in those terms. Darkness refers to him like someone he knows well. Nalan.

Regarding Dalinar - I don't think his visions come from any of his KR surges, it's just his talent. Like Kaladin's talent is the spear, Shallan's talent is Memory, Lift's talent is making stormlight out of food. Looks like these talents are outside the nahel bond itself, and help the surgebinders/interfere with their surges in unexpected ways.

Revelation (Dalinar... naaaah) I would stop thinking about last surge... it could be anything. Although... we know voidbringers have a similar set of powers... and thunderclasts are coming out of stone... so maybe the surface tension is the "ward" part and the "stone" part allows some kind of manipulation of stone... I know it's far fetched but sounds fun
-
I also think it's not perception... Body focus: bone... Essence: talus (bone) Attributes: Dependable/resourceful... Stonewards... Ward - either from the verb (... to protect...) or the noun (division) ... I would say it's from the verb ... (protectors of stone lol.. shins?) Nevertheless, I don't think it's perception...

Interesting... There is Wyndle, a cultivationspren (I am sure he is 100% cultivation). Then we have a reference to honorspren, Syl being one of them. I wonder how would a mixed spren would be created. Because right now I tend to think cryptics are Adonalasium spren. I can't see why else Wyndle would only talk about honorspren and cryptics visiting his garden. Also, there can be multiple types of honorspren - windspren honorspren being the spren of the Windrunners. Make sense?
-
I think the words need to be "discovered" and then be backed up by intent. It does not matter if they are spoken, as long as the person is aware of them, and has their intent. Moreover, I don't think the ideals are actually "passed" on to a fellow KR, but the potential candidate is encouraged to discover them (like snapping). This is why TWoK is actually the book that contains all the ideals, in their most "accesible" form.
-
Close, but ... you are honorspren because you are invested by Honor, not because the radiant has a sense of honor. Basically, Syl was an unaware honorspren windspren. She was attracted by protecting/leading Kaladin, she became more aware (of her Honor investiture).
-
You know, Nohadon's comment actually is pretty tied to the "Ring"... I do believe that honorspren and cultivationspren define the alignment of the spren, not the actual spren. So Syl is a windspren honorspren. Wyndle is a vinespren(?) cultivationspren. This would agree with BS's statement that there are honorspren, cultivationspren and in between, and they argue which is which Now, about Nohadon's comment... seems like cultivationspren are not as discerning when selecting people to bond with ... and probably the surgebinder that started Nohadon's desolation was bonded to a cultivationspren. Then maybe the cultivation sprens decided not to bond randomly, and created The Ring, an entity that is in charge of assigning (cultivation) sprens for bonds. Of course, this would be for a certain part (society) of cultivationspren.. there might be some that don't follow these rules and bond whenever. Also, seems like honorspren (maybe because Honor was splintered) are not aware, and become aware only after being attracted to the attributes that would create the bond. According to this, the lightspren bonded to Ym is an honorspren. Cryptics seems to be more cultivation than honor also.

I don't mean that he used it on the chasmfield itself, just that he used it to be able to resist. I am hesitant to say he used it on his armour as well because the armour *should* be already invested. Unless of course there is something wrong with the armour's investiture (like the one in the blades) - we do know the shards are different - and then he used it on his armour
-
I think the recreance happened because the KR become involved in local fighting and mundane politics. Otherwise, they would not have abandoned their shards. I wonder if they might have ended up fighting order against order. From Dalinar's vision, I see their behaviour as: "we are not fighting your wars anymore. here you are, get your hands dirty and fight it yourselves. we are done." What do you think happens with a military organization when their have no war to fight in? They find another one to fight in. And what would happen if they were tricked to fight in this war, and later on realized that it stands against their principles/oaths? About Nalan, it might be that having an influx of spren coming the the physical realm to bond surgebinders would create an easier path for "other" things too... so he's thinking of "severing" the bonds between realms.

* Stonewards: Dependable, resourceful * Bondsmiths: Resolute, builder It's really hard to place Dalinar, but I tend to say he's a bondsmith, and not a stoneward. Both orders have "surface tension" or whatever you wanna call it, nonetheless, and this is what I think Dalinar used vs the chasmfield. The second surge of a bondsmith is transportation, while the second of the stonewards is not known. I would say "bond" is closer to transportation, and "smith" to suface tension. For stonewards, it looks to me that stone is closer to surface tension (make things as hard as stone, dependable), so "wards" would be from the unknown surge (resourceful). If Adolin would be KR, I would place him in the stonewards order. About the last surge: I initially agreed with the previous post that it might be something like "communication". It's clear that KR could talk to each other wirelessly However, if you think about the spanreeds, they use a ruby, the gemstone of order 3 (dustbringers), most probably linked to their surge Division. So now I am not that sure... maybe the KR used some other ruby-based fabrial... About the ElseCallers: it looks to me this order is able to use their transportation surge on anyone. "Elsecallers" - they "call" (transport) anyone "else" to their location. Also, I see the semantic shift from "travel" to "transportation" a hint to support this theory, since "travel" suggests that only the surgebinder is able to move, while "transportation" is more general and may mean that anyone/anything might be "transported" by the surgebinder.

To reiterate, is there any theory that Szeth is a voidbringer?
-
Thx for the pictures. However, this is not what I meant. I actually meant that, in the book, Jasnah said that the first thing the parshendi asked when gavilar made the treaty was to see the alethi maps. Also, when shallan remembers things about her father, she says that he had many weird maps. So it seems to me that both the parshendi and the ghostbloods are looking for <<something>> on the maps. Might be connected with the symbol on brandon's maps, or not.
-
Thx, I have the ebook and did not know about that. Anyhow, dunno if that's related to what I was saying... I guess the question I'm asking is what do the parshendi and the ghostblood want with maps... the location of the honour blades? or the shard pool?

The oathstone is not the source of Szeth's powers. Neither is some spren. It's Odium. Szeth is a voidbringer. Make a parallel to Mistborn. You can use allomancy by being a misting with power X (here, a spren can bond with you to give you power X), or you can use hemalurgy, with the same power X, but by spiking an allomancer (here, by an unknown procedure). The procedure might be: killing a spren -> either the rock or the sword may be involved; or maybe Szeth was a scholar and discovered something about voidbinding, and became a truthless after he was judged by the stone shamans. Take your pick, there are not enough clues, and Brandon Sanderson can use any. The idea is that the voidbringers are not some aliens, but are people with similar powers as surgebinders, but achieved in some other way, through Odium. In this theory, the parshmen/parshendi are the natives of Roshar, so you can have both radiants and voidbringers which are parshendi. If you look at the heralds, Nalan looks like a parshman to me. He's hooded, and stocky. Plus, the parshendi had a knife with a herald image, Kaladin thought was wither Jezrien or Nalan. I would say it's Nalan, their parshman herald
-
The first thing the parshendi wanted to see were the maps. Shallan's father, a member of the ghostbloods, was obsessed by maps. I wonder what they are searching for with the maps...

Dalinar's order is very obvious. RESOLUTE/BUILDER 1) he does great feats when he is "resolute". Re-read when he saves Elhokar - you will see that he became "resolute", there is a quote how all his worries and restrictions dissolved when his brother's son was in danger. Similarly when Adolin does not blame him in the tower battle, he is then able to battle without the thrill. Lastly, at the end of the book, "he knows what to do", he is resolved and has a clear purpose, no doubts anymore. 2) builder - he long-dreams of building a united country. simple as that though, we will build more than that i guess. Dalinar is on the verge of "leveling up", and discovering the words. EDIT -- now he is also without armour, so he can properly make use of stormlight.
