Better that than yellow snow. I actually hit this sentence myself last night and was thinking about it. Song could related to the Singers, but I can't see how it would tie to Hearthstone or Kaladin. "Tapped crystal" is such an odd description for a voice.....any chance Honor's not really fully 100% dead? Maybe related to the same source as Dalinar's weird visions/voices/lights that aren't from the Stormfather?

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Zelly replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I had a Murphy's Law day today at work.....7:30-4:00 was just a nonstop cascading waterfall of tiny disasters. -
Well we're a rather forcefully welcoming bunch, apparently. That said, welcome. May your theories be epic and your nay-sayers few.

Anyone know where to find a good description of Shallan's shardblade? In WoR she summons it in the chasms with Kaladin, but the only description is that it has faint garnet lines. Any descriptions of if it's curvy/hooked/forked/whatever?

I've recently tried getting back into art after a looong recess where I didn't have time and fell out of the habit of regular drawing. I'm remembering how I struggle with feet. Hands I love. I can draw hands all day. But feet and shoes, no. I love it when characters wear floor length dresses. Or I go super lazy and have them conveniently standing behind a random crate. >_> I also draw people fairly short. I'm only 5'2, so drawing tall people is very, "But why are their legs so long? Is this normal?!" o_o So artsy folk, what's your drawing nemesis? Same for writing folks, you're pretty much doing art in your head. What do you struggle with visually? Character design? Scene setting?

So this is an interesting WoB. I wonder if Odium was trapped on Braize before or after the fall of Ashyn. Did he affect the downfall from Braize, as he is currently doing to Roshar, or maybe in the process of fleeing to Roshar he was diverted to Braize against his will.

[OB] Kaladin & Jasnah: the case for Political Marriage
Zelly replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Stormlight Archive
If you're going to have a political marriage of Radiants, why not Jasnah and Szeth? They're much closer in age. Plus, wow some interesting dynamics about choices, ethics, laws, necessities, power, etc. (Admittedly he did murder her father, so I mean yikes. But then again, DRAMA). Edit: Don't really know much about Szeth's background.....but I wouldn't be surprised if he was fairly powerful/respected in Shinovar, at least before the whole Truthless debacle. -
It's an interesting theory. I too am suspicious about Odium's bargain with King T and I agree that there has to be some reason Odium is choosing to make war, though I think that human eradication is not his goal. He's making war, but he's not whole slaughtering civilians right and left after cities have fallen (not yet?). Something about Odium's prison that I always thought was odd was Dalinar's potential role as the "releaser" due to his holding a large remnant of Honor's power. We know Odium goes to the trouble of trying to break Dalinar through painful memories and then set him up as the warlord of the Fused. If Dalinar had become his champion as planned, why not have Dalinar release him after? Why bother setting him up as the warlord and scourge Roshar?

I'm going to direct you towards this delicious thread about Chouta:

Whoa wait.........if you were a true cognitive shadow without a physical form, and then you bonded with a Knight's Radiant, would you get granted a physical form? Like spren live in the cognitive realm until the bond is formed, then they are able to transition to the physical plane.

Ohhhhh.................this is what is feels like to be given a RAFO. Thanks for the WoB, I'd read some, but then figured you Arcanum masters probably knew what had been answered already anyway (and I'm lazy).

1) Colors are pretty much just absorbed and reflected light? So could an awakener use commands in a completely dark room? He knows his shirt is blue, and it's not like it being in the dark is physically changing it, but at the same time... (seeing is weird) 2) What about man made rainbows like light through a prism or light through colored glass? If the object is white, but the light on it is red, can it be used to awaken or not? 2) If Breath is the Investiture, what is color really needed for? Some sort of bridge/catalyst for the breath and the command? 2) Can you use colors from a mirror for an awakening? (mirrors are weird) 3) Are colors on Nalthis raw potential energy? If so, could you build a machine powered by color-suction device? (If so, can we write a Doctor Seuss book about it because a machine sucking all the color out of a world for profit sounds very Seussical. ) Could color energy be converted into other forms of energy? If so, would be lightform energy or would it pigments like dyes? 4) Are colors the equivalent of metals on Scadrial, used up and "depleted" while doing magic? I realize many of these don't have answers, they're really just me speculating. But if ya got a WoB, I'll take it! Also I may have a fundamental misunderstanding of how light works. So I'll take help there too!

I love the idea of cognitive shadow people getting bonded as spren.... "H-Hey guys, I think I bonded a spren, but he's kind of weird....He keeps saying he has a plan and I'm in his crew now."

Dalinar’s had a few weird feelings of light and warmth in both WoR and OB. But there’s also been one distinctly odd vision in OB where he and Nohadon go shopping while a thunderclast stomps around. There’s a lot about it that just itches at me, so welcome to my summary + analysis, complete with increasingly wild theories. First let’s talk about the ~light~. When the vision begins, Dalinar can’t even look at the balcony because the light is so intense. The odd point to me is that he also describes it with sound, mentioning noises from it: "They sounded like the voices of people, but muffled” and then describing it as “loud sunlight”. A scratching distracts him, a door shuts behind him, and he notices the light from the door is gone. Nohadon is older, but the city is full of life this time (unlike when he was younger and the view was of death and destruction). Nohadon is also oddly flippant and does not react normally to things. Then we get to the big “Parable of the Grain” as I like to call it. Nohadon buys "golden, captivating grain, like the light of captured flames", which is rather curiously descriptive (especially in a vision so “light” themed) and also vaguely sounds like captured spren. The scales won’t balance, so he pushes on the grain side to force balance, meaning that he paid for more than what he received. Nohadon rather bluntly refers to this a metaphor when asking, So Dalinar’s had his fill of giving things up for principle/honor, such as not courting Navani when he was younger to best keep the peace with Galivar. However, I’m thinking Nohadon is referring to OB focus events: the death of Evi, living in shame/grief/horror, and then loss of memories of her. Dalinar paid some hefty prices, which start to seem unfairly paid as painful memories return, except that Cultivation has her finger on the scale. Things balance as Dalinar is able to ultimately find forgiveness and become a better person. Holding the bag of grain (representing the forgiveness Dalinar will later achieve), Nohadon touches the thunderclast: Nohadon starts talking about how everything exists in the 3 realms, mentioning As multiple thunderclasts (representing tears, pain, and burdens) crash down on him, Nohadon asks, “What is the most important step a man can take?” We know that Dalinar will later answer this (and withstand his pain crashing down on him) by saying it is the next step, and the next after that, as a journey means continuing. THEORY TIME 1) Dalinar has a connection to his Spiritual self, which is appearing as Nohadon to relay the vision to his physical/cognitive self. This is the perfect Dalinar beyond pain and uncertainty that is mentioned in the vision, which is what we see Dalinar starting to become at the end of Oathbringer. Nohadon also quotes Dalinar to himself: “Sometimes, a hypocrite is nothing more than a man who is in the process of changing.”Wait. Hadn’t Dalinar said that? Back when he’d felt stronger? More certain? More like his complete Spiritual self, perhaps? The light he feels could be the Spiritual Realm, which he can’t access but is growing more aware of. 2) Cultivation is manipulating his visions. Odium has appeared in and affected his visions, so why not Cultivation, if more subtly. “Change” is a big part of who/what she is, and the vision not only mentions “a hypocrite is nothing more than a man who is in the process of changing”, but also sets up the imagery of his burdens crashing down on him as he learns to accept them. 3) Dalinar is using his Bondsmith abilities to “pull” on Renarin to create a compound of abilities, similarly to what he did with Shallan when they created a map of Roshar. 4) Nohadon was Bondsmith and is connected to Dalinar (here’s a whole topic on this: 5) A Lightweaver is affecting Dalinar/sending him visions. This would explain the light and sounds cutting in and out weirdly. Unlikely. 6) Dalinar is connecting to the mysterious Sibling, who is the spren of dreams and resides mostly the Cognitive Realm. Pure speculation. 7) Hoid is somehow sending Dalinar visions. Unlikely. I do think Nohadon acts like him a bit, though mostly just the flippant glibness.

When life gives you lemons, what is best to make with them? Lemonade? Sorbet? A great marketing strategy for selling them? A deep sense of suspicion since you know there's no such thing as a free lunch? A questionable palette for considering lemons as a lunch item?

She didn't. When she first encounters her, however, Re-Shepir is described as clawing at the bond between Shallan and Pattern and trying inserting herself in Pattern's place. Which curiously sounds like it could have happened if Shallan had opened herself to it.....which sounds curiously similar to how the Parshendi open themselves to spren during the storms.

[OB] What are Shard-things made of?
Zelly replied to Hoid Stole the TARDIS's topic in Stormlight Archive
If shardplate is solid investiture, I wonder what the newly developed "half shard" shields are made of. I remember they are discussed in OB, but can't remember specifics. Were they a fabrial? -
Honesty. 10/10

Animal noises are written vastly different in different languages. (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/canine-corner/201211/how-dogs-bark-in-different-languages) The Rainbow Gum Tree has bark that peels in strips that turn vastly different colors while aging, making it look spray painted. The Lyre bird is an excellent mimic and will even accurately mimic human noises like car alarms and chainsaws.
