In honor of meeting Brandon Sanderson at bookcon this weekend here is my shallan cosplay! This is the first thing i have ever made myself <3 i am very new to sewing and have a friend who is going as vin be a huge help!
When the cover of Oathbringer was revealed featuring Michael Whelan's beautiful artwork of brilliant Jasnah Kholin, I knew I would eventually make this costume. The dress concept is simple, elegant, and practical .
I decided to make Shallan's other persona, Veil. She's much more "Old Wild West" looking than I thought from just reading the book.
I've included a process paper in JPG form to answer some questions about the outfit. If you have more, please let me know.
My summer project, finished just in time for the upcoming Alcatraz finale - a crystal sword based off of the new illustrated edition.
Modeled in balsa wood, molded in silicone, and finally cast in translucent polyresin. Not as cool as growing it from crystal, but much cheaper this way. The sword is about three feet long, and the blade is about a half-inch thick.
I was able to attend the midnight release party for Oathbringer in Provo, Utah, and was very impressed with people's cosplays! Some other members of the 17th Shard are featured here too; I'll label anyone I know.
