Had some weird vivid dreams last night. Was in a math class and suddenly realized had not done my homework. Tried to frantically and subtlety get it done, except the person beside me keep talking to me. When the professor asked me where my work was I got irrationally RAGED and stormed out of the room.......except that the scene changed as I went out the door and now I was storming around inside a mall. After passing a food court and a shoe store while raging at the professor and person who had been next to me, I turned around and walked back. The entrance to the classroom was like... panels of reflective black glass with an open spot of darkness for the door. As I entered, had another scene change (my dreams are really bad at continuity) and it's the professor and class, except they're all in a GIANT red and gold velvet auditorium watching a play. (Think I was starting to wake up at this point, because I remember thinking that things weren't making sense somehow, but couldn't figure out why). I walked over to the professor, leaned over him quite threateningly, and hissed in his face, "I'll do your papers, but I get to pick my seat." And then stormed off again to sit down. Moral of the dream is: I really don't like math.

The chapter heading quotes from Mythica say that the Radiants of old were fighting the parsh (non Fused) and needed a way to seal their forms. They are all from the same drawer of recorded gems: The "unintended side effects" I assumed were the parsh being denied all forms of power and thus trapped in their slave form. Eshonai's people were a small band of the parsh who turned their backs on Odium and so were not affected.

So there's a few things that have changed since the last desolation 4,500 years ago. Thought we could poke at these and see if there's anything they have in common that point towards a larger shift in power or change occurring somewhere? 1) The Everstorm. Several characters literally call it "a new thing". How ever Odium used to transform the Fused, it wasn't by traveling storm. 2) Odium possessing men. Both the Fused and (I think) Ash are surprised when Odium takes control of Amaram's army, mentioning it as a new skill. 3) Sja-anat's corruption of higher spren and radiant spren. Hessi's Mythica describes radiants of old saying she could only corrupt lesser spren. Sja-anat herself says that they have never before "enlightened" a spren as powerful as one who controls the Oathgate. (This one is questionable as the ability could come from Sja-anat's herself and newfound identity away from Odium). Anything I miss? Also this brings up the question: Why now? What has Odium being doing for all these millennia?

The Art of Baking: All new Hemalurgy Free Bakery
Zelly replied to Quickbronze's topic in The Alleyverse
Hello! I heard you sell magic brownies here. By magic I of course mean made with love and care. Unless I mean something else. Like.........Investiture. -
I'll second Dragon Con. It's a major east coast fantasy Con. Had a few friends go and they were blown away.

Spring Break is here! At least for my general area. Do you have a Spring Break in your corner of the world? What are people up to? Time with family and friends? Spring cleaning? Obsessive rereads of Sanderson novels? Exotic vacations? Obsessive rereads of Sanderson novels while on an exotic vacation with family and friends while you really should be at home spring cleaning? I'm boring and using my week off from work going to the dentist, doing taxes, getting my car inspected, etc.

Chosing ten pancakes to steal Lift was planning a meal Some salty, some sweet, With zeal did she eat, Taking three of Nale's was ideal. She had tracked him far to the city, which in Dawncity form was quite pretty. Admiring a building Roof topped with gilding Made her think of something quite Witty. An orphange was run by the Stump a woman quite the the grump. But surprise and behold let her story unfold turns out she's a Radiant, chump!

Can you force a shard on someone? I remember Kelsier transferring power to Vin, but can't remember the specifics. Was she actively seeking it at the time? Would it have been possible for Sazed to pick up his shards but not available them? Like holding the smoke essence of the shard (I think that's how it was described), then physical giving it to another.

[OB] Will Shallan ever find a good (girl) friend?
Zelly replied to Dreamstorm's topic in Stormlight Archive
Sorry, I was really only directing my theme comment towards the SA. Also not saying the lack of friendship is bad writing. I just think it's an area that, outside of bridge 4, Brandon is not trying to explore in The Stormlight Archive. I agree Adolin and Kaladin are developing as friends. Navani and Dalinar, however, I would argue have always been more than friends. I I think there is definitely exploration into relationships and bonds, but..... The Friendship theme is not as major as it is in a lot of young adult fantasy, for example. -
And I think this sort of of discussion of morality and ethics is great because it is exactly what the characters are going through as well.

[OB] Will Shallan ever find a good (girl) friend?
Zelly replied to Dreamstorm's topic in Stormlight Archive
To be honest, it seems like almost no one outside of Bridge 4 has friends. I don't think "friendship" is a theme that Brandon's even trying to explore. -
A different tack then: A different tack then: The Sibling is more a mindless force than an individual like the Stormfather and Nightwatcher. The old radiants know that something is going wrong with the Sibling, but at a loss as to what. If neither they nor their spren are able to suggest what is happening, it suggests that basic communication with the Sibling is limited.

I find it interesting that two of the quotes might counter each other: and yet the Stormfather says, "Leave them alone, you hurt them enough." Something that the Radiants, or possibly humans in general did, wounded, betrayed, or weakened the Sibling. Possible that something happened to the bondsmith who was tied to the Sibling? If a bondsmith abandoned his/her oath, wouldn't it "kill" or at least badly affect the spren bonded to it? Maybe the Sibling is like some giant dead eye in Shadesmar.

That's a good point, and could make it more difficult to pinpoint things. As we saw in OB, however, most of the squires seem to breathe in stormlight as the very first thing they do, just to get initiated. Lopen's arm growing scene was also his first success with taking in stormlight, so I'm guessing he didn't have a spren interested in him yet.

Well I poked around on the internet and apparently weapon fanatics like to argue about halberds vs spears a lot. With favoritism. Some things that I read include that they were very effective against mounted units. While Roshar does have calvary units, horses are very valuable and much rarer than on Earth, which would explain the lack of need for halberds. But from a non-weapons expert approach: Easier writing. More people know what a spear looks like compared to a halberd.

I heard a rumor that Calderis soulcast himself into a processing unit.

Rooster Teeth Shows Depicts Shallan and Jasnah
Zelly replied to Delightful's topic in General Brandon Discussion
"Jasnah and Shallan visit the Nightwatcher. Mraize tags along. Bridge 4 is not amused." -
As Adolin said no to the throne, Dalinar let out a groan But Shallan spoke up, and they were in luck now Jasnah's the queen alone. Dear Wit got punched in the face And yet he took it with grace. He made a weird doll, smacked into a wall, and took a spren from the place. Veil went out and got drunk and tried to akt like a punk. Hash a Hhhorneater white.. somethin somethin night... blregh prmor blow chunk.

Glad you mentioned that (and thanks for the map). If you're correct and this map is correct, then to travel to Threnody from Roshar you'd have to bypass through the Cognitive Realm of another planet like Sel. Which was my original question. I think I'm just going to have to sit on my ideas until we get more maps of worlds and realms. Thanks for all the feedback though!

Is this the reason that First of Sun has a shardpool without a shard? Autonomy's avatars possibly are able to create/maintain a shardpool? I could also see Hoid being a terrible/wonderful influence on said avatars......He does say at one point that at least one god is worshipping him by accident. Be hilarious if it was one of these avatars, which is why Autonomy has to imbue them with a natural dislike of him.
-
I can see both of those, but also a third aspect of him hating himself. Or having some passive form of being a receptacle of hatred. Which could explain the ancient Singers talking about how Odium takes away passions sometimes.

Dalinar was sharing a vision, asking Gawx to make a decision. Odium showed up, I spit out my cup, and my book had a liquid collision.
