[OB] A framework for Shardic natures and their expression
Zelly replied to Jofwu's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So would an example of this be: If a honorable Shardperson strongly believed that honor demanded strict vicious punishment for every minor mistake and subjugates thousands of people to this belief over time, is it still Honor or.... Cruelty? Discipline? ________? -
(OB) The Complete Stormlight Archive Cover Art
Zelly replied to Ammanas's topic in Stormlight Archive
Something with an hourglass. There's a lot of "time is running out" and looking back in time with flashbacks, as well as a lot of general sand. A Highstorm is pretty dang iconic and would make some good cover art as well. -
@RShara You are just a ray of sunshine!

Somewhere on the interwebs I stumbled onto a spreadsheet of likely cosmere dates and overall timeline from the Shattering through all published works. It seemed like a mix of guesswork, WoB, and from book info. Anyone know what I'm talking about and give me a link to it? My google searches are coming up with meh. It was organized A LOT like the mini one found here https://brandonsanderson.com/oathbringers-timeline/ except much bigger.

Curious to see interactions between Rlain and Venli. There might be some accusatory fingers from him to her, depending on how well he knows her involvement in bringing about the new forms. Two of the old listeners, neither fitting into the norm of their people (who are now essentially gone), trying to teach and inspire a new generation of listeners who have adapted human customs.

Do you remember your first fantasy novel? The one where you knew it was something special. Starting it idly, not realizing you were plunging into not only into a book, but a genre (dare I say lifestyle) that would make a nice little nest in your heart? I have an unusually clear memory of mine. I was in 6th grade. I loved reading and was a fast reader, but didn't know much about fantasy (had an older brother deep into D&D and MtG, which had my parents mildly nervous). We were suppose to be reading My Friend Flicka. I'd finished it and was dangerously bored. My teacher let me go to his "free reading" shelf. There was a BIG book there. Like 500 pages. I was curious. Cover looks seriously intriguing (especially if you've been reading My Friend Flicka). (Good 'ol Shannara covers, So dated, so nostalgic) I kinda ignored the "Book Four" label. And despite having no idea what was happening in the story, I was HOOKED. ELVES??? DRUIDS? MAGIC SWORDS?? I didn't know this was a THING. Never looked back. From there it was Anne McCaffrey, Raymond E. Feist, L.E. Modesitt, Robert Jordan and anything else I could get my hands on at the public library.

The "Ones above" in first of the sun are Darksiders

@Wandering Investor Skip the Renaissance! You wound me. How will Scadrians ever learn how to paint naked people properly? -
I'll buy. Kelsier taught the Southern Continent how to ice fish.

I assumed that Urithiru was "powered" by the vaguely mentioned Sibling spren. Like some sort of semi-sentient living city. It kinda works if the Sibling is a combination of Honor and Cultivation. The Knights Radiant reside there (Honor) and then the city itself is "cultivated" by the mystery spren. There's a lot of discussion about how Urithiru has places for growing food and being self sustaining. I'm very curious what Urithiru looks like from Shadesmar....

Yeah when you've achieved demi-godhood, super-ego's kinda nonessential. But I'd argue that Preservation is a very strong Id. Just like Ruin is compelled to see everything ruined, Preservation has an equally strong compulsion to preserve. "Like a fly in amber" I think it's described as in Secret History. It's not good or evil, it's just an overwhelming need of how things should be (and they have the power to make it so). -
Interesting you said that because my honest first reaction was, "He looks a little like Bruce Wayne"

Guns in general really aren't all the fancy, especially when comparing them to major space travel. Earth's had primitive guns for like 600 years and we're nowhere even close to FTL travel. Admittedly we don't have magic and shards of god running around, so not the best comparison. Though out of the all the world's we've seen, Scadrial does seem the most comparable to Earth in terms of having Dark Ages with a ruling class of nobles followed by an Industrial Revolution (guess Scadrial skipped the Renaissance?) -
Wait no..........I coughed it back up. Well most of it. Eww.

Hello! I ate a cookie, but all I have is this terrible weight in my stomach. I think I may be a cognitive shadow? Seeking advice, help, or if neither of those is forthcoming, I will also accept more cookies (I may have a problem).
-
I had to laugh out loud because I wrote that having no idea that the group was called "Dark Alley". If the cookie fits!

Did Brandon confirm 100% that Shashara is actually straight up no questioned asked dead? I'm not taking Vasher's word for it.

Really didn't know what I was getting into, but that picture was not what I was expecting.

Or would they just be a pyromaniac with a pet fireball.

Odium seems a bit scorched earth: I don't want it, but I also don't want anyone else to have it.

[OB] A framework for Shardic natures and their expression
Zelly replied to Jofwu's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So this thread got me thinking really hard about psychology.....If we throw in Freud: The Id, primal and demanding, wholly focused and single minded in intent and purpose. This is the shard itself. It has no other biological needs, it is mindless intent. The Ego, seeking the best way to express the Id (or at worst trying to false rationalize irrational behavior, my guess for Odium) would be the actions and motivations of the Vessel. Alternative idea Jung: The Vessel has the shard as a complex. For example, Tanavast has an honor complex. Ati has an entropy complex. (Here's a handy link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complex_(psychology) I'd check out the section "Jung's theory of complexes with key citations". With Unity, well......everything's on the same page mentally: Id says unify! Ego says unify! Super-ego says unify! Oh baby! We're so unified we're melting reality. -
As an Awakened object, could the breath used to create him be taken back/returned to the creator like with other (simpler) awakened objects?

Thanks! I thought about the armor being related as well. If it's true, I can't guess what other spren types might be connected. We see logicspren crop up occasionally around scholars and I can see these flocking to either Jasnah or Renarin.

Wandering in, shifty eyed and licking my lips nervously. I walk over, lean in close and say in a low voice, "I was told this might be the place to come to find some.........cookies."
-
Oh man....now.....now I kinda feel tempted by cookies.
