  1. Got it! I even managed to finish all of my chores and schoolwork before I sped to the library to grab it. Promptly started jumping up and down in the library, laughing quietly. I kinda wish that most of the Sharders had someone else filming their reaction, 'cause I bet there were some good/funny/extreme ones. 221 pages in, but I have work and classes, so I can't get back to it until this afternoon..... But oh well. Stay strong, ya'll. It's totally worth it.
  2. Granted, but using everything except the pure alloys makes you gassy every time you burn a metal. I wish that I could pay attention and finish my college application essays.
  3. I've always visualized the Alethi as more Middle-eastern than Asian, while the Veden seem more European. I'm not sure how hard it would be to find Arabic actors who could pull off all of the roles, but that would be the most visually pleasing to me, in relation to height and skin color. Any suggested actors on this line of thinking? It would also be interesting to make the SA into a non-anime animated TV show. I wouldn't mind watching it as an animation like the comic below. (I have no idea who drew it, but good for them!)
  4. A few possible spoilers have been dropped from casually glancing at the thread titles in the Oathbringer forum link. I though that sharders supposed to title it [Oathbringer Spoilers], and then their title. Are sharders on the Oathbringer forum supposed to spoiler their titles in this way?
  5. My record reading of WoR is two days and one hour, but with school and everything, Oathbringer should take about a week.
  6. Protagonist, yes. He is the main character, after all. Hero, no. I' think I'd save that title for another character in the series. Terrible person...... Maybe. You'll understand once you finish The Dark Talent.
  7. Thinking about this geologically.... Stormlight mentions marble deposits (as well as several others, but I'm too lazy to look up all of my SA geological references), and marble is a metamorphic rock, not a mineral. Marble is formed by the deposition of calcium into limestone, which is then metamorphosed by heat and pressure, then pushed back up to the surface. First off, this requires limestone, an easy rock to create at the bottom of an ocean, which checks out with the idea that there was a large ocean before there was Roshar. Next we need a mechanic for metamorphism. The limestone can easily be pushed further into the earth by a), more limestone/ ocean sediments on top of it, and b), the ocean drying up and crem being deposited on top. That solves burial, which in turn solves heat and pressure. But if there are no plate tectonics, how is the limestone - now marble - uplifted back onto the continent? Highstorms wear away at the rock, yes, but they also deposit crem, which sort of makes up for it. A highstorm can't weather away and expose a rock three miles below ground. Maybe there's a pluton or a batholith (giant blob of lava) coming up beneath the surface pushing it up, or a very large, deep fault (but with no plate tectonics helping, it too wouldn't work well). The only place where the highstorms eroding everything away and exposing marble actually works is on the stormward coastline of Roshar. So really, this whole 'no plate tectonics' thing grinds to a stop. But Brandon has enough on his plate without having to worry about minor, minor geological problems. Maybe my job should be to just critique the geology of Roshar.
  8. @Extesian, @Calderis, thank you both! And now the waiting to find out which it is begins. Unless it is another world entirely.....
  9. Forgive me if someone has already asked this, but a quick search didn't bring it up, so I though I would ask it. From what planet are we viewing the cosmere on the inside cover of Arcanum Unbounded? We can see the worlds of Threnody, Taldain, Scadrial, Roshal, Sel, Nalthis, First of the Sun, and even The Scar, but whose planet are we seeing these from? I was showing my friend the map, and she dropped the question, and it blew my mind. Is there another post I can refer to? Thanks!
  10. This is probably one of the best posts on here. But maybe....... a guinea pig in Shardplate?
  11. This is a very good, well-thought out post! I'm not a big MBTI person, but I know what they are, and I think you did a great job!
  12. !!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not very much of a temptation for me, just because I have a hard time believing that an author would actually release a third of their book (especially one so long as a Stormlight book) to the general public. And I might have schoolwork dominating my life....... should we run this like an alcoholics anonymous meeting? Hello, I'm I Am Witless, and I have been Stormlight-free for the past two months.
  13. I'm half-wondering if the numbers associated with each Herald just corresponds to the chapter number. Ex., Jezrien =Jes=1, Shalash =Shash+6. Chapter 1 and 6, or Sixteen. This would be funny, but more in the line of Alcatraz than Stormlight.
  14. @btcannon, I like your pfp. @pammie, welcome to the 17th Shard! What are your top 3 Brandon Sanderson books so far?
  15. I once showed my friends younger brother (he is 9-10ish) a picture of a chasmfiend, and he fell in love (he like sharks, dragons, dinosaurs, that ilk). He has asked me to draw him a chasmfiend for his birthday, which is in a little less than three weeks. My question: Should I trace it out of the book and color it in, or should I just stare at the book and try to draw him an original picture? Or should I do something else entirely? Help would be greatly appreciated. ((And I'm sorry, I had no idea where to put this topic. Q&A? Stormlight board? Hidden in the depths of the Reckoners RPG?))
  16. You won't believe what this elderly man did when his nephew was attacked by a Chasamfiend! How to not Age a Day: 7 Tips from an Elantrian She meet the God-King, then she did This! Mistborn Secret Revealed: Why you Shouldn't burn Aluminum.
  17. Is there a 'master list' of all of the Oathbringer tidbits? I can't find anything on Tor, and I've read everything on this thread. Edit: Whoops, nevermind. I didn't read this thing through carefully enough. Thanks!
  18. Oh. This makes a lot of sense. I do like rocks....... But on topic, it is absolutely amazing that Brandon has so many autistic characters. Both his portrayal and the amount of characters he has that are autistic represent the general population pretty well.
  19. So, last night I was trying to find a book to read, so I pulled The Rithmatist out of my pile of Sanderson books. I had bought it a month previously, but hadn't read it yet. I opened the front page, got happy and excited over the cool map (I live on the island of Cascadia!), then turned to the title page, and freaked out. Apparently my local bookstore bought a signed hardcover copy that just happened to fall into my eager hands. *cue fangirl jumping up and down, flapping arms, and mild screeching* Does anybody have any fun stories/surprises, like running into Brandon at the grocery story, or winning a free Sanderson book, or something like that?
  20. Seconding @StormyQueen on reading the Diskworld books. They are different from anything that I've read before, but the whole world is hilarious, with deep philosophy thrown in willy-nilly. Mr. Sanderson himself enjoys Terry Pratchett.
  21. I just have the paperbacks of TWoK and WoR, which I've reread and am annotating now that I'm cosmere aware. I'm not a highlighter person, but I do suggest getting a copy to scribble, underline, and dogear. Everything makes SO much more sense when you write stuff down.
  22. I used to believe that Alcatraz versus the Evil Librarians was Hoid's childhood backstory. After all, the sense of humor is pretty near right.
  23. I just re-read through TWoK and WoR after becoming Cosmere aware, so I spotted some of these things, but not others. Thank you so much for sharing!
  24. "I am a stick." Said Mr. Pyromaniac.
  25. I am aware that this is a character from a completely different world, but Wayne would certainly be interesting. Anything with Wayne is hilarious, but watching someone like him interact with someone like Pattern or Syl...... But then he'd be too over-powered, no matter his order. Alas, poor Wayne. Steris or Hrathen as Surgebinders would be cool, especially Hrathen. Annnnddd there's my two cents.
