  1. Bob, the Thug, stood at his post on the thirty-fifth floor of the King's Palace. He tried to pay attention to the city. He really did. It was his stomach that wasn't helping. "Last time I ever eat chouta." He mumbled. "What was that?" His earpiece buzzed. Bob reached up an adjusted the earpiece. "Nothing, sir." "Then keep quiet." His commanding officer said through the fabrial communicator. "I got enough to deal with without having to hear you whining." "Yes, sir." Bob barked. He really hated his CO. One of these days, Bob would get promoted and would take the officer's place. Things would be run differently. Bob heard something like metal twisting from the communications structure atop the Core, the building next door. He turned and scanned the rooftop, which was a few stories lower that him, but had trouble seeing anything. The 'sun' was behind the horizon and what little orange and blue light bounced off of the clouded backdrop made seeing more difficult. It wasn't very many seconds later that Bob saw a form materialize out of the darkness, spinning through the air. It was a... man? He fumbled with his hands, reaching to grab his allomancy-proof firearm, but his stomach began to cramp up. He winced at the heartburn a moment too long. The man was almost on top of him. Bob pulled out his gun and aimed. A fist met his face. Bob reflexively burned pewter. He couldn't tell if it was his consciousness slipping away that queued the subconscious pewter burn or if he equilibrium telling him he was upside down, falling off the side of the building. Either way, he was glad he was burning pewter, for the endurance it provided. What he wasn't happy about was the fact he would be conscious for the impact with the thirty-third floor's balcony. Bob's face took most of the shock, though, so there was that. "What was that?" A voice yelled inside his ear. Bob stumbled to his feet and flared his pewter a little, granting him better balance. He stared up at the place he'd fallen from and glared at the mysterious figure that glanced back down at him. Bob reached up and adjusted his earpiece, which, thankfully, wasn't destroyed by that punch or the fall. "Sir. We have an intruder." Bob said, spitting out a tooth. "He's fast, airborne, and packs a punch."
  2. I roll 3d8 for damage against the Lord Ruler. My awesomeness modifier adds another 27d8.
  3. A Roshar ton with a few dozen upward lashes. I hear if you give Turos credit for all of your contributions, you will receive your very own parshman. (17thshard.com is not responsible for any side effects caused during rough weather.)
  4. You were *this* close to becoming a Rithmatist.
  5. Thanks, Bard! I looked up music forms like you mentioned and am working on an AA'BA style. This stuff makes more sense now that I have a lead, thanks to you. I can't wait to check out your songs when you've finished them.
  6. Let me see what I can do about that. I might remake the font entirely with a different program, though I will use the same letter assignments. Thanks for pointing this out.
  7. Thanks everyone! I'll work on some more Cosmere themed songs, too.
  8. I wrote this song. It is dedicated to the bond between Kaladin and his brother, Tien, from the Way of Kings: Link (Sheet music for those who are interested: Link)
  9. I know some Spanish, German and Japanese. I'm fluent in English. I've worked on some conlangs of my own creation. I saw Rosetta Stone on sale a couple months back and bought the entire Japanese collection. It's actually really effective for me. I need to pick that back up. I imagine it would help if I actually had people to speak it with...
  10. Don't worry. Most of my reputation comes from touch screen bumps. That's how I stopped worrying and learned to love the touch screen, then proceeded to hack the mobile skin so that my upvote button has a hidden touch zone that covers about half of any screen, but you didn't hear that from me.
  11. Not sure, but out of the three, so far Vivenna would probably be the most likely to make an appearance elsewhere.
  12. I wonder if this had anything to do with him almost getting rid of the Final Empire at one point. Wish I knew how to search these reddit pages for WoBs...
  13. Unless they are mistwraiths. Then it would totally be weird.
  14. So that's why I saw a tweet by Brandon a week or two ago asking about places to make styrene cards.
  15. (Little did the horrified onlookers realize until it was too late, kittens are highly combustible.)
  16. I stand corrected. Thanks for the catch. Somehow I wrangled this requirement out of other posts, but I can't find any WoB on it, either, other than ones indicating the opposite is true. Here's something interesting I found, though: AoL series Spoiler? Who knows?:
  17. Ah, that makes sense. You're right, Dunkum. Vin asks him where he found a metal anchor to push on after she shot all of the coins away and fell to the ground. That's when he pulled one out of his mouth and showed her. I guess braces pierce teeth, but a retainer might not resist a pull or push if you open your mouth wide. Not sure.
  18. Do you mean using braces or a retainer as hemalurgic spikes? From what I have learned, Hemalurgy requires a few things: 1. The spike-driver intends it to create a hemalurgic spike. 2. A specific point in the victim's body is targeted for a specific trait to be stolen. This tears away a part of the victim's soul, including any traits or powers tied to that area. 3. Applying a spike requires a specific targeted area to gain access to specific traits from the attached bit of soul. The spike must be in contact with flowing blood in order to grant the trait. Specific areas of the body are tied to areas in the soul, which areas comprise what is known as the spritweb. Teeth would be hard. If you hit the vein inside, it could possibly do something, as there is flowing blood. Whether a valid part of the spirit web is located in those veins remains to be seen. Removing any spike removes the trait with it and it begins to lose potency until it is put back into a body. This means the granted trait is weakened, including the power, if any, tied to it. My opinion of why inquisitors are created in one scenario and koloss in another are all about the places in the spiritweb that are targeted, the number of spikes involved(four for koloss, eleven for inquisitors), and the traits stored in the spikes. Extra spikes don't seem to mess things up and change them into new things, but I believe as long as you have the basic pattern of specific traits in the right places, you get the hemalurgic construct affiliated with it.
  19. Carson listened to the conversation from where he sat, now alone, with almost no money. He picked at the piece of chromium embedded in the table as he tried to not look like he was listening. When he heard one of the men mention "Jon", Carson froze and his eyes widened. Once the men began to laugh some more, Carson pried the shiny bit of metal free and held it in a tight fist. He stood up and left his table, his motions a little jerky, even though he was trying to not look nervous. Carson left a few coins on the counter to pay for his drinks and exited through the front door. He turned and walked at a normal pace, stuffing his hands into his pockets, until he came to the side of the next building down the street. Once he passed it, he veered into the narrow alley and quickened his pace. He glanced backwards and saw no one was following him. Carson began to store luck.
  20. Nice! I began to wonder after I posted this if a seon could be tied to the sword somehow. Thanks for pointing this link out!
  21. I imagine that with the right Aonic inscriptions, Sel's equivalent of a shardblade is extremely possible.
