Ah, right. I forgot about that. Hmm. That bead of Lerasium is pretty tempting. Hmm. -

'Entering' Shadesmar? Aren't you already there...
Turos replied to Turos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hmm. Shadesmar = internet. Shadesmar just became a very scary place. I wonder why it's call 'Shadesmar.' I assume Spanish isn't a language in Roshar, but 'mar' means ocean. Ocean of shades. Shadows. Hmm. -

Wow. Posting from my smartphone isn't so great. Auto-'correct' failed me again. Translation: I had Hugh collect Charden's wallet, which he will inspect soon and discover something that reveals what Ven stole. That's my plan anyway. Do you guys like this approach? If it sounds good, what should I discover in the wallet? How can we figure out what Ven is after? Also, why should we care to follow after the Mistkiller? Hugh is interested because he is trying to find an angle to make a profit, through more detective-style means so far. @Venture Mistborn Isn't Ven already a mistborn? I wonder why he wants Lerasium. -
[OK, so Ven attacked Charden instead, using the hat argument as a distraction. So Resool was probably very close to Charden, but didn't get knifed. This definitely would distract Hugh, since he was facing that way and close as well.] Hugh:

So basically, Arcus is the big crime lord we need to take down. Even is the chaotic element who gets in everyone's way and everyone on his way. He will stay as an opponent, but perhaps become an ally later, or merely the big obstacle to overcome before figuring out Arcus' weakness. -
Doesn't Lerasium rewrite the spirit web? Wouldn't this erase surge binding?

If Resool does have a ticket to this exhibit, that could provide a lead for figuring out what the Mistkiller is up to. If we go with that and Ven gets away, Hugh could agree to trade the valuable awesome lucky fedora back for information about the stolen ticket. He might be up to working with Mist and Resool. It's up to you guys, but I need to go to work. If you want to post including my actions, here's some of what I was working on before Lark had a chance to respond to the attack. Hugh: I feel like a lot of people are trying to get a feel for what's going to happen, but the way I see it? If nobody has said anything, I'm free to paint a part of the picture and go from there. -

'Entering' Shadesmar? Aren't you already there...
Turos replied to Turos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Here's the big question: Why is the cognitive realm so easy to travel through? We know that the cognitive realm skips areas in the physical realm that are void of intelligence. This tells me that it is a map of the minds. I imagine that the reason the cognitive realm is location-based at all is because location is part of our perception. Regardless, by worldhopping by means of Shadesmar, aka the cognitive realm, in actuality you are thinking yourself elsewhere by navigating through a sea of other minds. I wonder if things aren't so much location-based as they are perception based. By this I mean I am feel the chair under me that I am sitting on, so I know the chair is nearby. I see the wall a few feet from me, so I know the wall is close. I am aware that the street outside is farther from me, and my assumption of that remaining true, even though I can't immediately sense it, holds some connection. Obviously, if the street did move somehow, closer objects with their own perceptions would 'know' otherwise and out-vote my assumptions. The sea of beads makes more sense to me this way. It could all just be an understanding that the contents of the universe share, much like Syl's explanation of the laws of physics. -
Thanks Robinski! You are very close on the definition of the title, at last as far as I understand Latin. Thanks for pointing those things out. You're right. I need to ease my readers in more so I don't break their immersion.

@Valthyr Ha ha! That's a cool way to explain it. Reasoning with the reader. A new level of immersion!

Would they draw upon the mists? It's the closest thing to Stormlight, I think.

I think Turos will be happy to work with anybody willing to make things interesting. He hasn't let loyalty mess with his decision making process... yet. As for Hugh, I think I'll help get the ball rolling. -

'Entering' Shadesmar? Aren't you already there...
Turos replied to Turos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ooo. Yeah! I forgot Kaladin saw a vision of Shadesmar. Very interesting, and most likely due to his bond with Syl. -
Shai's comment is accurate, as far as I understand realmatics. Everything exists on the three realms. What can we glean from this? Syl exists on three realms. She has a physical form, though she can choose to hide it from all but select individuals. She has a cognitive form, like all spren, which is their natural form, you might say, being cognitive creatures. She has a spiritual form, evident through her bond with Kaladin. Regardless of this bond, we know that Syl, like all things, is in all three realms. It seems she, like other spren, is naturally more tied to the cognitive realm. Shallan exists on the three realms. She has physical form. She has cognitive and spiritual forms as well. I say forms, but I mean aspects. And then I actually do mean forms. When Shallan visits Shadesmar, the cognitive realm. She can see beads representing the cognitive forms of things. Shallan has a cognitive form, as well, being a bead. My question is why doesn't she appear to be a bead when she enters the cognitive realm? We know that spren have two complex forms, one in the physical realm and one in the cognitive realm, the latter being, perhaps, more complex. What exactly happens when one 'enters' Shadesmar? Aren't they already there? Aren't they also in the mysterious spiritual realm? What does that look like? Can someone 'enter' it, too?
-
That depends on whether consciousness can be divided. It would be easier, perhaps, to just endow one of your creations with all of the magic powers that branch from your shard. This make me wonder, though, what causes the magic in each system to manifest in those forms? What about allomancy is related to Ruin or Preservation? How is windrunning honorable or cultivating? Maybe the intents don't really have to align with the manifestations, and instead the purposes do somehow.

If I was a mistborn, I would run away with the circus.

Questions about Mistborn Technology in the Space Era
Turos replied to Paranoid King's topic in Mistborn
You're right about Scadrian FTL. Just do a little searching on reddit about it. Plenty of Words of Brandon to make it very likely... as in yes. Some theories exist that we have already seen evidence of future Scadrians travelling about. Have you read every Cosmere story? If not, I won't spoil it, if it's even true. Mistblades! Oh yeah! If it's technology-based, though, maybe they will be mistsabers instead. I'll let you in on a very hush-hush secret:- 2 replies

Turos sprang up along-side the government building in the Deo sector. He watched one blue line extending from his torso intensely, ignoring countless others. The line grew thicker as he neared the rooftop. A section of the building extended out; a platform for a stone gargoyle aiming out from the corner of the rectangular building. The thick metal ring hanging through it's bared fangs swung slightly under the strain of his pull. When he came within five yards of it, close enough to recognize the ghastly features, he tugged on another blue line to his left. The ball clutched in a stone dragon's claws didn't move. Turos pulled himself over enough to clear the gargoyle's perch. Just before he passed it, he released the gargoyle's ring, loosened his pull on the dragon's orb, and grabbed another line that pointed to the tip of the spire; the highest point of the structure. Turos rose upward and tugged metal from passing corners in turn, causing him to spiral around the spire in a gradual rise. He held the spire's line just enough to keep him midair, and let his momentum and occasional corner pulls bring him around several more times. He scanned the city all around and beneath him. He kept this up as he watched for a signal. He didn't know exactly where to meet, but was told that his potential employer would flash light up to him somehow. He imagined whoever it was would use a mirror, but you never could tell in Cosmere City. As he watched, memories of past missions rolled through his mind. He recalled various deliveries, each one a small package with some form of tamper-resistant seals. That didn't bother him. He hadn't cared what he was delivering. Money was nice. The challenge behind it was the real lure. He hardly ever took a job unless it would test his limits in some way or another. He chuckled as he remembered the last job. It wasn't a delivery. More of a scouting mission. His employers had wanted him to tail whomever he could manage from a list of people leaving a business meeting to their residence, then return with the address. The surprise on his employers' faces when he came back with all six addresses, two at remote ends of the city, was priceless. His wing suit had come in handy for that job. This next employer was a new one. He had no idea who they were, but he already liked their style of making contact. He had found the note hidden in a water-tight container at the bottom of one of Cosmere City's small lakes. The container had been resting at the back of a pipe that was sealed with a grate. His ability to store breath for later use had been useful in finding the end of the pipe. His ability to pull on metals brought the container through a perfectly-sized hole in the grate. The cluster of a hundred blue lines coming from the lake bed was what caught his attention yesterday. That lake was on his usual route around the city, and there was no way he could have missed it while burning iron. When he retrieved the container, he found the lines pointed at studs all over it's surface. The message inside was brief: 'From the highest peak, wait for the light beneath. Come find me. Be prepared for anything.'
