  1. I think what is happening with Shardblade cutting invested objects is similar to physical cutting - the denser the material, the harder it is to cut it. In the case of Investiture it's all about how much invested is the object, the more invested it is, the greater the investiture density inside of this object, the harder is for a Shardblade to cut it. That makes sense. Shardblades are equally dense in terms of investiture, so they fully resist being cut, Shardplates are less dense (as investiture is spread across the whole plate), and therefore they can be broken. The same goes with Halfshards, Awakened type 3 objects or metalminds, they are far less dense than a Shardblade, they only resist being cut for a moment, but they will give up eventually. Even when cutting humans or living organisms, the Shardbearer feels a bit of resistance that the human soul is making. And a Shardblade does destroy (or rather release back into SR, as investiture can't be destroyed) a bit of investiture of the cut object, but only in the place it was cut, not across the whole body. Vivenna's blade for sure damages the soul on strike, but I don't know if that's on the same level as a Shardblade. It's like in Awakening, it drains color from the fabric, in case of her blade, it drains color from the opponent. But that does involve the soul, and damages it a bit, maybe draining some investiture from it. Like the second WoB by Tamriel said, there is a change happening in the spirit. At best the damage done by Vivenna's blade is on par with a Shardblade, but not greater. That wooden plank is a bone in your body, which would be smashed and broken by a blunt impact. And your squish,y watery body is a perfect medium for the energy to traverse, right into your bones, internal organs, not to mention ruptured blood vessels and muscle damage. There is a reason why blunt weapons were in use as a primary weapon (no, swords weren't primary weapons, they were secondary weapons) for centuries. To fight effectively with a person wearing armor. Strike with a war hammer or a mace (not to mention polearms) to the head was in many cases lethal even with a helmet on. There is only a limited amount of strikes to the head that Feruchemist can take, as his healing would quickly run out. In normal fights, a few pieces of rings being broken is an opening in your armor, that your opponent can now explore with a dagger or a sword to cut deeply into your unprotected flesh. In fight with a Shardbearer, he can change the shape of his weapon for huge war hammer or poleaxe that smashes a large section of chainmail's rings, creating a huge opening, and then changing a Shardweapon into a thin sword or dagger to strike right into your heart or spine. This is even more dangerous than in real conditions. And this is also a reason why plate armor is better than a chainmail - you can't create such openings in a plate. And I'm not talking about Fullborn or Miles. There are no Fullborns, and Miles is dead. Even Miles would have a lot of trouble gathering 20 kg of gold and making an armor out of it, and then he would likely need another 10 kg of gold, just for compounding to fill up that 20 kg armor with attributes. He wouldn't be able to afford it. He had no money, that's why he was stealing gold from people. With Awakening this is much easier, as you can just put 1000 Breaths into a regular piece of armor (breastplate, helmet, chainmail, even plate armor as contrary to popular belief, plate armor doesn't restrict movement almost at all) without Awakening it and without the 9th Heightening:
  2. We don't know. For now all we know is that F-nicrosil allows you to store the ability to use investiture, not investiture itself. Something like Misting ability, or Ferring, or Surges. And Divine Breath. But we don't know if Stormlight or Breaths can be stored there. You can fuel Feruchemy with external source, so yes, you could use Stormlight/Dor to fuel it, instead of your own body: If normal investiture can be stored in Nicrosilmind, then yes, you can use it to fuel all your Feruchemy. And Feruchemy fueled by something like Dor or Stormlight, would be far stronger than normally, as that’s a lot more investiture than Feruchemist can normally use.
  3. If you can make yourself a misting/ferring by Forgery you are just 1 step away from a Twinborn, and 2 steps away from being a Fullborn. Just forge yourself, and DON'T spike yourself. Period. There is no reason to damage your own soul if you can just be a Fullborn/Twinborn in the first place. But you would still need to provide investiture for those abilities, it won't come from Preservation. And you forgot about the healing. The damage done by the spike still affects your real soul under the fake one, not as much as normal, but your soul is still damaged. Now I think about it, because you have to provide investiture externally to become a forged Mistborn, if you spike that out, the person who receives the spike would also have to provide investiture by himself. So a Hemalurgist won't be supplied by Preservation if he has a forged Allomantic ability, he would have to have the Dor, or maybe, just maybe Ruin could supply him instead. But most likely he would have to provide the Dor himself.
  4. Tumi is enlightened, he contains a significant amount of Odium's investiture, he would be able to hear and resonate with rhythms of all 3 Shards and their mixes, because he is now connected to all 3 Shards of Roshar. All Radiant spren are a mixture of Honor and Cultivation's investiture, even Honorspren aren't 100% of Honor. But Radiant spren didn't exist before the Shattering of Adonalsium, they were created by Honor and Cultivation later. Before the Shattering spren on Roshar were already leaning towards one of the Adonalsium's aspects, mostly the one that became the Shard of Cultivation.
  5. Dominion and Devotion's investiture IS mixed together into the Dor, Arcanum Unbounded: and WoB: And the Dor is gaining self-awareness of its own, slowly, which was noted once again in Arcanum Unbounded. But Odium specifically pulled their investiture into CR to prevent it from gaining sentience on its own, so investiture being in CR has a harder time gaining sentience then the one in SR: I also think that reforging Adonalsium is possible, but even if Brandon were to choose not to bring him back, I believe that he will deliver us a possibility that we haven't considered to even exist, and still be satisfying.
  6. Is that the only thing that defines you as a person? No, every single experience in your life, every person that you know and you have a contact with, every life choice, defines you. Some have greater impact, some have lower, but all of them are part of what makes you you. I think Identity would work similar to healing Ideal - your physical body is adjusted to your spiritual ideal, filtered by your cognitive ideal. With Identity everything that makes up your spirit web changes it to some degree (some more, some less, e.g. a man/woman having a son would have a very strong connection to him, which would be reflected in their Identity which would identify them as a father/mother) but also your Identity is filtered by your self-perception, and likely how other people perceive you would also matter.
  7. Chainmail is for stopping cutting and slashing damage, not piercing and smashing one. A hammer blow into a chainmail would smash its rings to pieces and break your bones. Surprisingly, it's plate armor that's better at dealing with hammer blows than a chainmail. 5 kg rock going 100 km/h would be more energetic than a war hammer strike, even without a sharp edge, you would have a severe internal damage and broken bones. It's not a cannonball, as those go 10x faster, but it's still a "weak" cannonball. Just look what war hammer strike to a riveted chainmail does: https://youtu.be/gnK_aqNIpcA?t=329 - keep in mind, a properly worn chainmail would be under tension, so the damage done to it would be even greater than in this test, as lots of energy is lost to the movement of the chain bouncing up and down. Helaran If you want to have access to those metalminds then it's not a good idea at all, as all of them are not touching your body. You would have to touch them with your hand. If you want to have only a form of invested protection, then it's quite a good idea. But then it depends on the metal used - iron and steel are strong metals, brass, tin, pewter, copper, and more, most of the base 16 metals tbf, are bad choices as these metals don't provide such good protection and can deform and break more easily. That's why the chainmail metalmind would have to be made out of one metal entirely, steel would be the best, to avoid having a weak spots in your armor, but the problem is - it's hard to store a lot of speed in a normal steelmind, not to mention a piece of armor weighing 10-20 kg, that's a lot of attribute needed to fill it up to be a Shardblade resistant. Even if you made it out of all 16 metals, nothing except for compounding would fill it up fully. They did, Vasher's Awakened shirt, trousers and cloak works somehow similar to a Shardplate - giving him extra strength and protection. Not on the same level as a Shardplate, but still on a significant level on Nalthis. Not to mention they didn't know Shardplates are from spren, while they could know Shardblades are from them, as they could see deadeyes in CR. But after witnessing what Nightblood can do, I think Vasher would never want to create a plate like this.
  8. That's what I'm arguing. They need to fully know what they are stealing, not just that it's F-Atium, but also that it allows them to store youth, to have a proper and precise intent, otherwise they would very likely not succeed in stealing it. Intent plays a huge role, ans stealing something that you don't know what it does might mess it up a bit. With Atium spike that might be too much. That's also why I think that during Inquisitors’ attack on Terris and Keepers, Ruin was so heavily influencing them by emotional Allomancy (which he could do from the prison), that they basically were controlled by him, without being directly controlled by him. He could then provide proper intent and precision needed for spiking F-Atium resolving that problem. This would mean that it was Ruin that gave Inquisitors F-Atium. Keep in mind, Marsh was puppeteered by Ruin during the entire WoA and likely before, he wasn't a person that would just walk around killing people and poisoning wells in Luthadel, and yet he was doing that. He was already controlled by Ruin at that point. This negates your entire argument. Ruin was very involved when Inquisitors were spiking Keepers. Reverse compounding is my best guess. There isn't any other option, as WoB said, there are reasons Brandon didn't talk about yet, and extending their lifespan is a known reason so in my mind that's not an option here. It's not my model, we know reverse compounding is possible per WoB and that's all we got. How this works I don't know, your description looks ok. What would it get them? How much more powerful would they get? Would seeing further into the future be beneficial? Or was it a way to use A-Atium without having any Atium? Could they learn it? I don't know the answer to any of those questions, not without knowing what reverse compounding does. Having access to A-Atium without having any piece of metal Atium is a very big deal alone, don't you think?
  9. Even more than that? Connections as well? Hard to say. I don't know, we know very little about it. From Coppermind about Identity: I do like the idea in the second WoB that Identity acts like an encryption key, that sounds about right.
  10. You forge them 2 times, each time they have a different identity, slightly different but that might be enough to prevent compounding. You basically have a set of 3 different identities. I was thinking you're gonna ask if you forge a spike to contain a power with no identity, that would be doable very much, and might fix the problem (with or without additional aluminum medallion for Hemalurgist)
  11. Are you saying that Inquisitors didn't know what F-Atium does at all? If so, that won't work. Firstly, they need to know what this metal does in order to store in it - they can't just tap it not knowing what it does - BoM proves it with Wax not knowing the coin is a medallion or that the spearhead is the Bands. Inquisitors would steal something that they didn't know what it does, and would have to figure it out by guessing "maybe its youth" to store in Atiummind. Then, them not knowing would very likely mess up with the spiking process. They need to be very precise when spiking, as they are risking stealing something else, and intent is very important part of Hemalurgy. There are several binding points in the heart alone, they need to spike the correct one, they need to know what F-Atium does to do so. Not to mention they need to place it in a right spot on their body, there is likely a spot for general powers, like Atium spikes granting A-Atium go into the heart, but here again, intent might mess things up, and them not knowing what F-Atium does at all would mess thing up for sure. They can't just guess F-Atium is good, they need to know precisely what it does, as they're stealing it with Atium spike, otherwise they wouldn’t have had the precise intent needed for Hemalurgy. And if they knew already what F-Atium does, that it stores youth, then they know that it's useless. Especially if they get that from Keepers, as that's what Keepers thought. Inquisitors during WoA would still not know about compounding, that they could burn their own metalminds and fuel Feruchemy with Allomancy, they didn't know that was what Rashek did, therefore, if they know what F-Atium does, they would have no reason to steal it, when they can steal so many more useful abilities.
  12. Yes, but normal Feruchemy isn't restricted by Harmony like Hemalurgy is. Harmony might be forcing compounding to work only when both Alomantic and Feruchemical identits match. But that's another "if".
  13. I don't know if by blanking your own identity you would also blank the identity in a spike.
  14. Was Leras unchanged? He literally Shattered the god, and after 10000 years of holding Preservation he wasn't able to hold a knife. Holding Preservation didn't make him preserve himself, he still ruined his own mind to trap Ruin, it only made him focused only on preserving everything but himself.
  15. I think I get it. As far as we know, Nalthians weren't created by Endowment, so their investiture might be a mix of all 16 Shards, with special investment from Endowment in the form of Breath. Scadrial is the only unique place in Cosmere that was entirely created by Shards, with people being composed only by Ruin and Preservation's investiture. As far as we know of course. I don't know if Hemalurgically obtained Allomancy is fueled by Ruin, I think it might be still fueled by Preservation as Allomancy is basically a Connection to Preservation, from which you draw a power, spikes just steal that connection and place it in someone else. Both Shards can fuel all metalic arts however, what you proposed could be true(Marsh was certainly fueled by Ruin directly during HoA final fight with Elend) But what do you store when you're storing attributes in metalminds? Do you store parts of you spirit web? I don't think so, it doesn't make sense, as storing part of your soul would look more like memory storing - either you have it or not. What do you store then? I think you store your "body" parts - you take something from your body, and convert it to investiture, your body is then pulled like a spring away from your spiritual ideal, which bounces back when you stop storing. So what you are storing is your physical body converted into investiture not your soul. Things like soul related attributes might be working the same as memory by taking part of your spirit web permanently from you, either you have it, or not, there is no tapping 2x memory, no diminishing returns with that. Does it matter here, to make that distinction? Yes, because that gives us a little wiggle room to say what type of investiture is being stored in metalminds. Because Feruchemy comes from both Ruin and Preservation I think that any type of body attribute would get converted to Ruin and Preservation's investiture even if the person storing it would be from Nalthis. Of course I find it entirely valid that he would store a mix of all 16 Shards with a bit more Endowment, and Feruchemy doesn't tune investiture coming in and out to Ruin and Preservation. Or healing might force investiture to abandon its tone and tune in to Shard's investiture that this missing piece of soul was composed of. If a spiked Mistborn heal with gold medallion with Nalthian health in it, not tuned to Ruin and Preservation's investiture, Mistborn's soul would be healed by that investiture. What would it do to his power? I don't know, but I don't think he would draw from Endowment when using healed power. The healing restored his connection to Preservation, it didn't create a connection to Endowment. This is still a connection to Preservation from which you draw power. There might be some interference because that connection is made of mostly Endowment's investiture, but Endowment is all about giving with no string attached, so this might not change anything. If that was Autonomy, her investiture might limit the amount of power coming from Preservation, as investiture would be repulsed by it, it would be still flowing, but that Mistborn would be weaker in that healed power. Or there might be no problems at all, because connection is restored and that's all what is needed for investiture to flow from Preservation. Descendants of Mistborn whose soul was fully compowed of Ruin's investiture, would likely be born with normal souls, not Ruin souls. But that's pure speculation. I don't know if we know now how healing works in the case you described. That's something that might be worth asking Brandon.
  16. Long and thin - that's good. Long and thick - that's less good. Thick blades are easier to catch, deflect and block, they're slower because they're more massive. And you don't really need more mass in a sword that cuts through a soul.
  17. You're Willshaper! That's not nerdy enough!
  18. He had it hard, Painspren were torturing him for Stormfather knows how long, his mother was neglecting him, focusing more on her and her Guard than on him, and Ashertmarn was likely whispering to his ears as well. I'm surprised he behaves so normal during RoW for the amount of trauma he lived through.
  19. Yes, I'm proud of it! Join the dark side with us!
  20. I think it was even said by Adolin in OB, during the battle of Thaylen field - Shardblades are shaped like this to fight thunderclasts, not humans. Here is another WoB where Brandon said the same:
  21. I know, I just like pointlessly arguing about space
  22. The idea that the time moves backwards when moving faster than the speed of light comes from the fact that the faster you go, the slower time moves for you until you hit the speed of light, when time stops for you - everything is happening at once to you. That's how photons experience time. Because of that if you were to exceed the speed of light you would move backwards in time. I don't know how much is it confirmed mathematically, but google says that special relativity does indeed predict what would happen if you were to exceed the speed of light - you would move backwards in time. But the problem with this is that no object with mass can even reach the speed of light, so the nature of our Universe might just prevent this from even happening. Buuuuut, you could use a warp drive (Alcubierre drive) and move spacetime around you faster than the speed of light. Spacetime has no mass, so physics allows this, and you would be moving faster than the speed of light, but from the point of view of a distant observer. Wormhole works as well. But good luck finding negative mass for this. That's why I don't believe there is a way to achieve FTL other than warp drive or a wormhole. You can't just do the Star Wars and go into hyperspace or something like that. I know that pain
  23. He can do it, he fits both of them well. Brandon even said that Dalinar could unite both Shards:
  24. End-neutral: End-positive means power comes from outside sources, like Stormlight or Allomancy that draws from Preservation. End-negative means that power is lost, and it's rare. I would call creating type 2 or 4 Awakening constructs as end negative, as power isn't lost, it's still there, in Lifeless and type 4 entities, but isn't accessible for you. It isn't decaying. End-neutral means that power isn't gained or lost. A practitioner manipulates power that already exists or power that comes from themselves.
