  1. I see what you mean, but I was under the impression that her mother wanted to kill her because she was a surgebinder. There could be any number of motivations for that. I agree that Shallan's mother was a terrible person- there's no debating that! I can't remember Shallan having hateful thoughts about her mother, but I know that abused people often have skewed views of their abusers, so that's not proof of anything. My interpretation was that there was a sudden change in Shallan's mother when she discovered Shallans abilities.
  2. And I agree that her life wasn't peachy, but I'm just skeptical as to how much of that she was aware of before the "event" if you will. It's likely she bonded to Pattern before her mother was aware of it. She had to be broken before her mother was willing to kill her.
  3. So I got to thinking about how Shallan was a surgebinder from a young age, even before her flashbacks start. According to Brandon (#8 and #14) the principle of snapping to open up cracks in the soul is Cosmere wide and across magic systems, which means that Shallan would have to have been broken enough for a Nahel bond even before her flashbacks reveal how horrible her life was. So my question is, do we have any hints as to what could have broken her before her mother's death? She had progressed quite far in the bond, IIRC, so it wasn't just right before her mother's death.
  4. I believer that Harmonium is part of the solution to this, since it is slightly balanced toward Ruin. See @Pagerunner for his excellent thread on it. But this question will be addressed in The Lost Metal, IIRC.
  5. When does this happen? I can't remember this at all.
  6. A good pairing for police could be A-electrum for seeing what happens before you burst through a door or make a shot, and F-steel for getting out of there if your spidey senses tell you a bomb's about to go off.
  7. I think a good question is: how difficult it would be to Soulcast the Fullborn like Jasnah did Obviously, the Fullborn will have a significant amount of innate investiture, but if it's not a Sliver like TLR, it might not be as big of an issue. There as thread about the difficulty of Soulcasting being a function of your persuasiveness vs. the amount of Stormlight at your disposal.
  8. Wouldn't A-electrum be a good solution for immediate decisions like this one, since it grants immediate foresight, similar to atium (but on yourself)?
  9. IIRC, he's a pre-shattering super-spren that fused with Honor's cognitive shadow once Odium killed Honor. So a question I have is what happened to the Shard investiture left over by Honor's death. I think Honor's death created a lot more spren?
  10. IIRC, D&D were shattered pretty quickly on the timeline, so it isn't likely that the magics were developed to a great degree when the shard holders were still around, if the magics existed at the time.
  11. This is an interesting idea, but I guess one reason I'm having trouble accepting it is that I can't think if a reason to assume that Odium is/has been seeking a champion. Am I wrong in this? Because, it seems like having a duel of champions is sort of Honor's last resort. This coming Desolation is sure to be different, but I guess I don't see evidence for a champion being part of Odium's plan.
  12. Well, we know from Rysn's first interlude that farmers are high up in Shin society, and farmers are typically quite dependent on the sun. There could possibly be a connection there.
  13. I see a lot of people just using SH for Mistborn Secret History as well
  14. I think we're kind of saying the same thing. What I'm getting at is that the boost to physical ability you receive from holding stormlight is not proportional to the amount of stormlight being held. Like pewter (except for flaring), it seems to be a fixed physical boost. But maybe that's not relevant to the OP.
  15. Another good question would be whether strength scales with the amount of stormlight, or whether it is a flat enhancement. Because then the amount is not that relevant (if we're just asking what the scouter says about their power level).
  16. That's fair. I just checked the annotations for Warbreaker and I'm not convinced. It seems that it's the actual feeding on investiture that bonds a person to Nightblood, but once again, it's not waterproof.
  17. So when Brandon says that Szeth better not draw Nightblood for a while yet, is he referring to the period of time it takes to bond Nightblood? Because the Coppermind says you have to survive drawing Nightblood in order to bond with it.
  18. As far as the OP is concerned, @R.E. posted on the Supanova event thread that Vasher uses a yet-unknown method to invest himself with the Stormlight. A method that Szeth could also learn...
  19. Ok, sorry, I'll try to include links in the future. And yes, now that I look at the wording of the question, it's not as certain as I thought. I assumed the asker was specifying the memories on the medallion.
  20. Actually Brandon said that it was done to forget. QUESTION Did Kelsier fill copperminds for any reason other than sharing knowledge? Would he want to forget certain memories? BRANDON SANDERSON Yes and Yes. Those may not be causally related. You asked two separate questions and got two separate answers.
  21. Speaking of Spook's spike, wouldn't the person who spiked him have to have the intent to do so, or was Ruin just bein a meddler?
  22. I think that with Breaths, the closest thing to savantism is the enhancement to skill and learning, and ease of access to new abilities that holding more Breaths endows. Of course this is not a perfect analogy at all, since there aren't really any inherent drawbacks with holding large amount of Breath, but there are a few similarities, including increased capacity and abilities with the magic on a sliding scale. Thoughts?
  23. If you made a humanoid Nightblood, would it be able to walk around... or, dare I say it, use Nightblood?! Also, it would be very painful and expensive to put on. Talk about fancy pants.
  24. Harmony does dub Wax his "Ruin" and TenSoon as his "Preservation" so there is some evidence of Sazed feeling a need to take actions on behalf of both intents, if only by proxy.
  25. Thanks, once again, @The One Who Connects I feel a bit guilty that you seem to do all my WoB hunting for me.
