My thoughts went to the Recreance. Maybe it refers to a second mini-Recreance, if Taravangian reveals whatever secret it was that destroyed the Knights.

Has anyone asked Brandon if we've ever seen a Herald outside of the Stormlight Archive? I mean, they must have done something during the millennia between the prelude and the present events. Seems likely they worldhopped...
-
Yeah, I think that was just a God King Priesthood thing, the title of the one who would carry the God King's child. I doubt Brandon knew what he'd call shard holders at that point.

How does Brandon determine which cons he goes to?

I think he makes a big list of pros and cons.- 3 replies

Renarin is younger than Kaladin.

Taln seems to have supernatural reflexes (catching poison darts in flight), so I think it's pretty safe to guess that supernatural hearing would be part of the Heralds' powers too. I don't think we know how old the Heralds are, but they are old enough that ethnicities would have changed a lot over that time. Her appearance could have been normal when she was born. The infatuation I'm not sure about, I don't remember the interlude that well. But was it that inexplicable? She's a beautiful (presumably? I don't remember how she's described), mysterious woman with great resources. It's not inconceivable that someone would fall for a person like that, I think.

A lot of people have wondered about this, but I don't think we've ever been given an answer. The next book will most likely answer it though, so just... a bit less than one and a half years left I guess!

Yeah. Apparently Sazed thought Harmonium sounded better. I think he's just being shy though. I prefer Sazedium, myself.

I think the common theme of oaths have more to do with the fact that it's all connected to Honor.

Kandra can't make hair, and they have to arrange every individual hair once they actually get a hold of some. Being bald is just easier if you're a kandra.

Do you mean the actual shard, or the vessel?

Yeah, apparently you're right... I can't find that Taln quote, where he's rambling about the Knights... But if I recall it correctly, he's talking about them as if they were humanity's idea... Hm...

Hang on, the Heralds didn't set up the Knights, did they? There are quotes saying the Heralds had to be convinced to become the leaders of the orders, and I think Taln says something that implies they had nothing to do with their beginnings as well. The Heralds were probably normal people before the Oathpact. I think Jezrien says they agreed to the pact by their own will, which is weird if they were created just to be part of it. Unless you mean that's what gave them their Heraldic powers. That would make sense, I think.

I think WindCaller's point is that there might be a strong link between that specific aspect of being Returned, and Stormlight healing. It kinda makes sense to me, but on the other hand (Warbreaker spoilers): That doesn't mean Kaladin can't learn to do it if he really, really practiced (as Vasher has), but it makes it a bit less likely, I guess.

I don't know about color perception specifically, but I believe a non-Nalthian is somewhere between a drab and a Nalthian with one Breath, in terms of... how much spiritweb they have, or something. I'd guess they are closer to one Breath, but I don't think we know that. So yeah, a native person from Nalthis with one Breath probably has better color perception than someone not from Nalthis who doesn't have Breath. But a drab is worse than both. However, perfect color perception takes 600 Breaths, so that one first Breath might not make that much of a difference.

Brandon has said that drabs don't Return.

I don't think it's explicitly written out in the text, but I'm pretty sure Renarin had a chance to slip in and write every time. That, combined with him writing very similar things during that one scene (which takes place during a storm), and the revelation that he's a Truthwatcher, makes it pretty certain it was him all along. Dalinar himself was supposed to be the main suspect, of course, but that was just a red herring.

I think humans manifesting the Nahel bond was the reason the Listeners turned to their gods in the first place, so they almost surely remember the Knights. They probably don't care that much about the actual organisation, but they do care about Surgebinders. They think the spren abandoned them, or something.
-
No, I think that was it. There may have been hints earlier on (like the fact that Renarin was one of the only people close to Dalinar during highstorms), but nothing explicit until that scene.

theory An Possible Explanation for Taravangian's Diagram
Eki replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Stormlight Archive
Something like that. Maybe he's found a non-Knight way of getting into Shadesmar. Or maybe he knows of some ancient disaster bunkers. Although, if he was going to run or hide, he probably wouldn't try taking over the world... -
Well, one is a sociopath, another is a sadist, and the third could be any or both. 'Normal' human behaviour, unfortunately. And yes, Forch did say something about needing to see what was inside, or something like that.

I doubt having one Breath would make much of a difference in noticing colors (and neither Vivenna or Siri had any prior experience with auras before Warbreaker).

Taravangian's plan might not be to fight the Voidbringers, but to hide or even escape. He wouldn't need every soldier then. -
The way the coat color change is described doesn't really match up with how BioChromatic auras change color. BioChromatic auras make colors stronger somehow. Not darker, or brighter. Stronger. Also, it would have affected everything around VenDell, including his face.
