  1. For the record, it's probably not lerasium, since lerasium can be eaten without exploding. Could still be a lerasium alloy though, if that changes its properties. (Especially if the other metal is atium, since that would explain why it's volatile)
  2. How many spren could really have died? There is a very limited amount of shardblades in circulation, and from what we know, all bonded spren turn into blades when they 'die'. Maybe, to the spren, a few hundred deaths is a huge amount. The alternatives are that there are large amounts of shardblades unaccounted for, or that some have come back to life...
  3. I think Oversleep's point was that Gavilar's body didn't disappear, so HE must have created a body double if he was to survive. I'm sure Gavilar died that night, but he might still be 'around'... just a bit more dead. I doubt it, but it is possible.
  4. I dunno... The bomb at the end seemed to be an ettmetal bomb, and I don't think such a small amount of lithium would be able to cause such a big explosion. Lithium is the least reactive of the alkali metals iirc. I think ettmetal is magical somehow. Probably Sazedium/Harmonium, but we'll have to see.
  5. I don't think conservation of energy holds in the cosmere (or in our universe on a non-local scale for that matter, but that's a different question). There have been a few threads about how to create energy using magic, and many of the methods seem unrelated to how much energy they actually produce, if that makes sense. As in, you can do the same thing in different situations and use the same amount of Investiture, but get different amounts of 'real' energy out of it. In the specific case of Allomancy, the metals don't provide the energy, they are just the key. I assume it actually just disappears. I think there are conflicting WoBs about whether or not metals eventually return to the planet somehow. Brandon has, however, stated that the cosmere and investiture follows its own rules of conservation of energy, which means there ARE rules, but we don't know them.
  6. We don't know why, but the Heralds we know of seem to act out some twisted version of their previous personality (or its opposite). Shalash was the Herald of Beauty, and now she's going around destroying art. Nalan seems to have a very twisted view of the law, without any regard to empathy (to be fair, we don't know how he and other Skybreakers used to be, but regardless I find it twisted). I think there's one quote that indicates that Jezrien (former king) is some kind of moping drunkard, or something. But yeah, there could be several reasons why they are this way. The torture, the breaking of the Oathpact... Who knows.
  7. I think it's just rampant speculation... I'm not sure why though. I mean, yeah, she's mysterious because we don't know anything about her, but we do know enough to be able to assume she's roughly who we've been told she is. I'm interested in her personality and what exactly happened to her (and her brother!), but I think her origins as an Iriali exile are pretty clear.
  8. I'm not sure if it's explicitly stated anywhere, but god metals are supposed to work differently. Atium is the body of Ruin - not just a key. I think there is some WoB about this, but I'm not sure... Also, I think the books do (wrongly) say that the power comes from the metals, because that's what most characters think is the case. From their perspective, the metals really do seem to give powers. It might be different now that people know about Preservation, but still. Edit: I haven't found the WoB I was thinking about, but there is one that says that burning atium isn't like burning other metals, it's more like when Vin burned the mists (ie the body of Preservation).
  9. I think Brandon has said that there were only two shards on Scadrial during the first trilogy.
  10. Pretty sure liberalism is considered right wing almost everywhere outside of the US
  11. Many spren seem to have their origins in human (or other sentient creatures') perceptions, so that might be why they have (or appear to have) gender identities. Also, some (or all) of them might not have a gender identity, but the humans observing them assigned one to them (which is what happened to Nightblood, for example).
  12. I think someone theorized that using powerful emotional allomancy could help, since there's no physical evidence of it. So you could still surprise someone burning atium that way.
  13. It is, however, worth noting that Vasher (or whoever it was) probably saw that there was 'life' in the Shardblades, since he had life sense from his Breaths, and the Blades are only slightly dead. Not to mention that he likely traveled through the Cognitive Realm and could have met spren there. So he possibly knew about living Blades, even if all the ones he saw were dead. That would explain why he or his wife would have come to the conclusion that Awakening could be used to create something similar.
  14. I think he saw the two as one set. To be fair I think the situation would have turned out the same even if Kaladin had accepted the armor. Like many others, Amaram seems to overvalue the blades over the armors.
  15. Shardblades are spren, who are splinters. That's why they're invested. Also, there's a discussion in the Mistborn subforum about how atium doesn't behave like it's invested, I think. Neither of these things mean shardblades AREN'T made of god metals, but not for the reasons you stated, I think. As to shardplate, I have no idea. I suspect they are connected to spren too, but I guess we'll see.
  16. Finished it yesterday, and liked it. And yeah, I do think it's worth it to read further. I can't promise you'll like it, of course, but still.
  17. It's also likely that the Well didn't fill up linearly, accelerating towards the end. Also, the power could have been 'locked' until the Well was filled up.
  18. We know for sure that it's impossible to be Mistborn and a full Feruchemist without the aid of hemalurgy or lerasium, but I don't remember anything about Mistborn/Ferring or Misting/full Feruchemist. Although, the number of spikes needed to be able to access all metals at once would probably not be very... safe.
  19. Yes, that's likely what the second book will be about (if it's ever written). I think the annotations mention it after the Lifeless army has been stopped, when Brandon confirms that if they hadn't been stopped, a new Manywar would have broken out, partly because of Yesteel.
  20. How far did you read? I'm reading it right now, and I also had some trouble getting into it. It became much more interesting to me after a while, though.
  21. Ah, okay! Not what I have on my books. I do feel like I've read parts of those texts somewhere though. I can definitely see why it would be interesting to know who wrote them.
  22. I can find it online now (on Adlibris). Probably the UK edition.
  23. I have a superpower that makes me unable to reveal any of my other superpowers. I also have a superpower that
  24. Yeah. It basically sums up the world (from the perspective of an outsider), and the starting points for Kaladin, Dalinar and Shallan.
  25. I have a feeling I don't have the same text on the back of my book (paperback), because it looks pretty summary-ish to me... That quote about Khriss was the one that led me to believe she WASN'T a 17th Sharder (though i managed to use the exact wrong word) - that the Shard asks her about things and she provides answers, but that she isn't really working for them, even if her work often benefits them.
