  1. Hooray for a first post! Welcome to the public face of the 17th Shard! I am very interested to see if Ettmetal (Harmonium) can mimic non-Metallic Arts powers. How cool would it be to have Ettmetal that can resonate with the Surge of Gravitation? A Nicrosil Misting who boosts an Awakener... would there be an effect? Or what if the Nicrosil Misting touches an Aon that is drawing directly from the Dor? What kind of reaction would we see? I bet it would either be nothing or something absolutely wild! Once we start seeing more "crossover" works I think we will get a look at some really cool magic mixtures. As a small correction, I think you meant to say Allomantic bronze can seek investiture, not copper.
  2. Ahhh yes. I always forget about this little known bit of legalese. Law is so tricky sometimes! Like, as a random example, it is ok to set-up and abandon an ally on the battlefield but it not ok to stab them in the eye in a hallway. Who can keep track of all of this?!
  3. No, thank you! One of my biggest first world problems is the lack of excellent Cosmere art. This is actually one of the reasons I am so happy about the White Sands graphic novels even if they are a bit underwhelming - I absolutely LOVE seeing these worlds come to life! This piece of Shallan you did helps fill in that void a bit. I showed my wife last night and she was so impressed. She is a huge fan of Shallan and was in awe of how well you captured her. So, again, thank you! Good to know! I will be sure to start stalking! No worries, I won't plan any kidnappings like some people (--> @Argent) I would legitimately pay you money for this. I backed the Kaladin kickstarter mainly for the art book haha. So please, if you do prints let me (and others) know. You have wonderful talent and I would be more than happy to support that in whatever small way I can. In the meantime, would it be ok to download the pic and use it as a background or something? Or can I share the pic (with appropriate citation of you/your social media)?
  4. This is, easily, top 3 best Cosmere art pieces I have seen. Simply stunning. Not to be too capitalism and all, but do you sell prints? I would love to own a copy of this! Also, do you have a deviant page or anything where you showcase other work you have done? Just incredible!
  5. Hi @Generalbacon74, there is, indeed, a ton of speculation around the reforming of Adonalsium, what Hoid is up to, and the eventual endgame for the Shards. I'm not familiar with the exact posts you are referencing but forum search "Adonalsium" and I'm sure you will find some of them, not to mention dozens more! Brandon has also said that "resurrection" is a big theme for the Cosmere so it would not be that wild to make a guess at Adonalsium "resurrecting". On the other hand, it is a bit straightforward and Brandon general eschews obvious endings. So, who knows? I guess we will have to wait for Mistborn Era 4 to find out!
  6. I like to think that the bottom-to-top window of crystal or whatever is a giant Stormlight battery. The characters will discover some mechanism for activating it and then bam! Near limitless Stormlight while in proximity of Uruthiru.
  7. We have this: Also this: There is a bit of wiggle room in there for Brandon but, overall, I think it is a safe bet that Honor was around for the Recreance.
  8. I honestly thought this was some weird version of a "horror rick roll" or something while watching the trailer haha. Only after looking it up did I believe you that it was based in the X-Men universe. I have no interest in horror films so this is not my cup of tea but for those who enjoy horror and superheroes this looks like a dream come true.
  9. One piece of evidence against this is that, presumably, a Parshendi would need to be bonded to a particular type of spren to maintain this form. Brandon has stated that it is very difficult for a bonded spren to leave the Rosharan system. So, it is entirely possible for a parshendi to get a spren off-planet but it would take some work.
  10. Are Godmetal powers chosen (or influenced) by the Vessel or is it something else? E.g. Could Ati/Ruin have chosen for Atium to do something other than show glimpses of the future? Could Leras/Preservation have chosen for Lerasium to have different properties? What about new Shards that invest? Are they able to influence how their Godmetal acts?

    Nicrosil

Perhaps the medallions are not pure Nicrosil but a Harmonium-Nicrosil alloy? Maybe alloying the metals removes the, ahem, explosive nature of Harmonium and grants those who touch the alloy the ability to interact in a Feruchemical way with the non-Harmonium metal of the alloy (in this case, Nicrosil). Then you have someone store Identity while filling the Harmonium-Nicrosil metalmind and, voila, a useable-by-anyone metalmind full of Identity-free investiture! I think this would tie in nicely with the pure Harmonium ability we have seen that replicates the last Metallic Art (or perhaps only Allomantic) ability used in its presence (e.g. the "grenades" we have seen). Side note on this random thought: Have we seen medallions that grant Allomantic abilities or only Feruchemical ones? I am pretty sure it is only Feruchemical.
  12. If I had more upvotes to give then, by Aslan, I would give them.
  13. Congrats on your order and I am interested in how Brandon responds to that question. I, unfortunately, have no idea what the shipping will be like but this is not a new thing for Wellers so I imagine they are pretty good at it by now. From what I understand, they ship international orders first so that they have a better chance of arriving on/near release day but don't be surprised if your book shows up a few days late.
  14. Mistborn Era 2 spoilers:
  15. He should definitely make his own decisions. And we should definitely make polls about those decisions. @Argent is a pillar in this community and I worry no one will recognize his posts anymore!
  16. What I would have said if I could have put it as succinctly. +1
  17. I could not help but notice that @Argent recently changed his profile picture. Frankly, I miss the old one and am starting a poll to see how many others agree with me. Change is not something we should just accept without notice! Or ever*! *this poll brought to you by the Leras Foundation
  18. I think Gavilar says outright he wants to so that the Heralds will be forced to return. My point is that, even knowing the Parshmen were enslaved, Gavilar did nothing to help them in the moment (that we know of). We know of no efforts to ease their burdens, to protect them from abuse, etc. In some ways, Gavilar is worse than others because he had knowledge of their predicament but did nothing to help them. To Sah, and other Parshmen who think this way, it shows that the Alethi don't care about the Parshmen except to use them as cheap labor.
  19. I think there is some validity to this claim. There are a few caveats (some of them rather large caveats) that muddy the waters (imo). 1. Emotionally accepting something that you intellectually know can be difficult, if not impossible. Even if these Parshmen could be convinced that they would have all died off without Alethi intervention it would still be difficult to emotionally process that. 2. More telling, the Alethi were not selfless saviours of the Parshmen. As Sah said in one of the chapters, the Alethi ignored Parshmen familial ties and would break up families for profit. There are plenty of examples of Parshmen being used in horrible ways, being treated in horrible ways, etc. Generations of abuse and misuse seem to more than justify their anger and distrust. 3. The Parshmen might not accept that the Alethi did not know how to fix them. Remember, in-world people have decidedly less information than we, as readers, do. Sah mentions that if the Alethi capture them he is afraid that they will change them back into the mindless slave form. He might also think, rightly or wrongly, that there have been people who knew what was going on and did nothing. Gavilar obviously understood what happened and he did nothing to help the slaveform Parshmen that we know of.
  20. Both myself and my wife will be there. We plan on camping out to get a #1-99 book. We have VIP tickets. I plan on finishing Oathbringer by Tuesday evening. Wooooo! Launch party! Wooooo!
  21. This was 30+ years before Taln but interesting word choice. The cover shows Jasnah repairing the walls of a city (Kholinar?). Perhaps the Voidbringers understand siege warfare in Alethkar too. Why had Dalinar never visited the city his family owned before he was 12? Where did they live before then? Who ran the city; was it one of the other "branches" of the family? If his branch of the family weren't "ruffians from the backwater" then what were they before the unification wars? That's a lot of red you have there Odiu... I mean, Navani. This could be a "current" day discussion on why Elhokar (or Dalinar) were having such trouble uniting the Highprinces and/or the monarchs of the world. The flashbacks seem to reference/foreshadow/explain the "present" day timeline pretty well I think. These lines feel wrong to me. I like them. They are funny. But they seem out-of-place. Like when Lift says "awesomeness" or how some people felt when Syl told Kaladin to "stretch forth thy hand". The sentiment is appreciated but the delivery does not fit the theme/setting very well imo. Overall, I thought this was a fantastic chapter. I am very interested to see how the Dalinar we see here becomes the Dalinar we know today.
  22. Welcome! I, too, remember my first time finishing Mistborn and absolutely loving it! The ending is so incredibly well done! If Cosmere lore and theory are what you seek then "Mistborn: Secret History" is probably the best book for you right now; especially while the events of the first trilogy are still fresh in your mind. Some people caution against reading "Secret History" until after you've read "Bands of Mourning" but I have never seen the need for that. Also, I would strongly suggest you read "Warbreaker" before you read the Stormlight Archive. There are some interesting elements from "Warbreaker" that make understanding a few small parts of the Stormlight Archive easier. But, you definitely do not need to read "Warbreaker" first. Good luck in your Cosmere adventure! Beware of spoilers in the forums!
  23. I believe this is slightly incorrect. Kaladin still struck Szeth with Syl but it was through the wrist instead of the chest iirc.
