Know this fellow Sharders, if any of you are in a similar situation as described by Rider and you react in the way Steeldancer said, I will personally donate towards your legal defense. Also, be sure to pay with cash so if they try to take it back and you run, you can at least claim you left the required payment on the counter.

[OB] The Group that Showed up with Jasnah
CaptainRyan replied to Isaiah Zayth's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yes, this is accurate and canonical. Definitely. -
Long-shot option that will make me look amazing if it is correct. The author of Oathbringer is none other than... Pai! (The ardent who denounced the Queen of Alethkar) 1. She was executed but, thanks to the proto-Radiant bond she was forming due to her actions, she survived. 2. The execution was a near thing and let her see into Shadesmar... and Beyond! 3. She was so zealous an ardent because she was actually deeply conflicted about her faith... all the way back to her childhood perhaps? 4. Her actions sparked the riots that led to many deaths. 5. Not sure how someone who loved her was killed but something something tenuous theory.

@Knghtstlker: https://www.graphicaudio.net/our-productions/authors/a-e/brandon-sanderson.html These are, hands down, the most amazing audio books I have ever heard. Unique voice actors for each character, original music, sound effects, etc. all help paint a scene unlike any audio book I have heard before. They are technically abridged because they remove the "Adolin said" or "Dalinar grunted" parts because you know when Adolin is speaking because he has a unique voice and when the book says "Dalinar grunted" the voice actor for Dalinar grunts haha. They also, occasionally, add a bit as was mentioned elsewhere (e.g. in Warbreaker they needed to fill in the "unspoken" Breath commands). Overall, any subtraction/addition is incredibly minor and only serves to further the awesomeness of these books. Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Graphic Audio in any way, shape, or form. I simply love these books!

[OB] The Group that Showed up with Jasnah
CaptainRyan replied to Isaiah Zayth's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Hoid left Jasnah at some point during their journey. It would be quite the tale indeed if Hoid traveled for several weeks with Jasnah haha. Once they finished sharing information and Hoid annoyed Jasnah enough, I would guess he simply left to go do other Hoid-y things. My guess is Jasnah simply arrived with a group of people from the warcamps. She might not have known how to operate the Oathgate or simply did not want to reveal herself as a Radiant to the masses. -
As long as we are talking about mutually consented binding. I don't want any of my friends engaging in void binding!
-
Op is @Toaster Retribution and commenter @Walin claims to be invested toast... I do not see this ending well...

My best guess is because Jasnah did not, from what I understand, use her Transformation surge to escape the boat but rather used her Transportation surge. Jasnah literally teleported herself into the Cognitive Realm using Transportation whereas Shallan was merely "peeking" in with Transformation. There are differences in how these surges interact with the Cognitive Realm and, perhaps, these differences explain why Shallan neither saw Jasnah nor the painspren.

I think Sadeas was a product of his generation (for lack of a better term). He was fully committed to the "might makes right" Alethi philosophy and, as such, he would not have deviated from his course. If he had lived I think, despite everything, he would have continued to try and make himself the leader of the Alethi. That being said, I assume there are several plausible scenarios Brandon could have written where Sadeas realizes his mistakes and "redeems" himself but I don't think that was ever in the cards.

I think it is possible to build Elantris (the city) style enhancers in other parts of the world but, the question is, how effective would they be? With Sel's magic being geographically limited, building another Elantris thousands of miles away might not provide the same level of enhancement. Aons are weaker the farther they get from Arelon and I doubt the Aon Rao is any exception. Building an enhancer far from Arelon might just end up only providing a very tiny enhancement.

There have been a number of threads postulating that something, usually Odium, is interfering with the normal Cosmere afterlife-cycle (i.e. something is preventing people's cognitive shadows from passing to the Beyond). Generally, evidence presented consists of Vorinism's myth of people fighting in the Tranquiline Halls after they die, the way the Heralds return to Braize when killed, and other things I cannot remember off the top of my head. Greatshells survive due to spren bonds and Odium, or, more accurately, his Unmade, are known to corrupt spren/ spren bonds. Also, there is that painting Jasnah and Shallan found in Kharbranth of a "voidbringer" that was actually a drawing of a chasmfiend. It is possible it was drawn that way because, as Jasnah guessed, it was the scariest thing the artist knew but it is also possible it was drawn that way because Odium somehow corrupted chasmfiends, or other greatshells, to fight on his side.

Peace through superior firepower. -
I highly recommend: RadioLab (especially the episode on the "kilogram" and how it is measured") Serial season 1 (I did not listen to season 2 so I cannot recommend it)
-
From the annotations to Elantris [emphasis mine]: The city acts as a massive power boost to any Elantrians drawing Aons near it. Edit: found this particular quote by first searching the Coppermind for Elantris and then following the footnote.

Normally I am all about people talking about what interests them but I second this motion. Nuke. The. Shippers! -
Good call. I just started my pre-Oathbringer reread and the picture of Yeddaw matches your description. Oneinteresting thing is that the top of each "plateau" is a field for growing food. I'll put extra effort into parsing the scene with Nale son God and Lift to see if where they end up matches.

I do not think this is accurate. Is there a quote that leads you to believe this?

Amaram Fan Club
CaptainRyan replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
One thing I really like about Amaram is how complicated he is as a character. In all reality, he only has, as far as we know, one black mark against him. To be fair, it is a pretty egregious event but, aside from that, he is an otherwise admirable guy. What makes him even more interesting is that his story arc could really go anywhere. He could plausibly end up redeemed or he could plausibly end up slowly becoming more and more "evil" (using that four letter word just triggered 1/3 of the forum haha). Anywho, I don't know if I am a fan of Amaram but I am very interested in how his story plays out. Thanks for sharing your piece. -
Compounder Protagonist Help
CaptainRyan replied to The Allomantic Metalhead's topic in Creator's Corner
One suggestion I thought of is make the loss of the Chromium minds end up being a good thing! E.g. Some group hired a hitman to take out this hero but was told to make sure they get the right guy and to identify him by his recognizable Chromium metalminds. Then, when the hitman shows up, woops, no metalminds means the hitman is confused about who to kill and it ends up giving the hero time to deal with the situation. Or, perhaps instead of using them as a way to identify the target, the hitman needs to bring in the chromium metalminds to prove the kill and when the hitman finds out the metalminds are missing, ends up "helping" the hero look for them, shenanigans ensue, etc. Or not haha. I'm no author but I thought it might make sense if losing the metalminds ended up being "lucky" for the hero.- 5 replies

I plan on being at the release party. Get book between 10pm-11pm Monday night (depending on the lines) then wait for a personalization (hopefully done by midnight) then head home to read... I hope to finish up by early afternoon on Tuesday. My first read is always a speed read because I want to know how the story goes. I'll re-read between 2-5 times before book 4 so I don't worry about missing little details the first run through.
