  1. I'd say full stop right there. Renarin is the heir after Adolin. This scenario is even contemplated by Navani (I think) towards the end of the Way of Kings when everyone is assuming Dalinar and Adolin perished at the Tower after Sadeas betrayed them. Renarin might not be immediately beloved by his subjects but he is Dalinar's son and I think they would follow him. Elhokar would strengthen his rule by showing that he has the authority to administer justice to even Highprinces and Dalinar not interfering would show that Elhokar truly has regained the throne of Alethkar. Or, at least, I see that as a plausible scenario that Brandon could write.
  2. You read Way of Kings in FIVE hours? Welp, we have our first confirmed Bendalloy misting irl. Welcome!
  3. I was wondering about the gardens. As Uruthiru is above the storms there would be no rain to feed the plants but if the gardens were meant to be tended by Radiants using Growth... well that is a whole 'nother story! Great idea! Also, welcome!
  4. Gentle correction: Renarin has Dalinar's plate. But you are correct, we have seen no evidence that touching Shardplate causes the same issue for proto-Radiants/Radiants as touching dead Shardblades.
  5. While I will certainly give you points for creativity there are so many issues with this being a security feature haha. Namely, if Voidbringers DO have a Shardblade style weapon then they could just cut through the wall of the chamber. Having a rotating door would add no protection. Not to mention that there is some kind of special key/lock mechanism that seems to only accept Radiant Shardblades or Honorblades so I doubt a Voidblade (to use your creative term) would be recognized by the mechanism. To me, the design of the structure does not make any sense unless there is a reason to be able to stop the rotation at various points in order to activate the Oathgate for other areas. A simple switch would be far more practical if there was only one real option. Then again, I could be wrong and the Radiants just liked making really creative/artsy chambers for their super cool teleporters haha.
  6. Nice find! I would caution that this can be a case of the "unreliable narrator" though. Navani is not privy, as far as we are aware, to any special information. Aharietiam is so far in the past that it is mythological in nature; not to mention that the Hierochracy changed many records.
  7. I believe that if Adolin was manifesting surges then his blade would scream at him when he summoned it.
  8. We do? Can you share where we learned this (the book reference, the WoB, etc.)?
  9. If this the case then why did Shallan need to spin the Stormseat Oathgate, uh, control wall to point at Uruthiru instead of at one of the other options? From the first edition of Words of Radiance page 1008 (kindle edition): "She entered through the hole and walked a curving path through the circular chamber, silently counting the divisions in the floor mural. There were ten main ones, just as there had been ten orders of knights, ten kingdoms, ten peoples. And then - between the segments representing the first and tenth kingdoms - was a narrower eleventh section. It depicted a tall tower. Uruthiru." From the first edition of Words of Radiance page 1037 (kindle edition): "The inner wall of the building was like a ring inside a tube - it could rotate, while the outer wall remained in place. The sword moved the inner wall as she pushed on it [...] pushed it around the circle until they were above the picture of Uruthiru, half the circumference from Natanatan where'd she begun." Assuming that all of the other Oathgates become unlocked in the future, doesn't it seem reasonable that stopping the inner wall on one of the other kingdoms would activate those Oathgates? Otherwise, why make such a cumbersome design of having to rotate halfway around the room when there are only two settings (on - send to Uruthiru, and off - do not send)? This is a clever thought. Getting TO Uruthiru is free but leaving costs. Foreign merchants could be made to sell their goods at a lower price to Uruthiru merchants who then can send the goods anywhere in the world for a cheaper price.
  10. Hmm, that is a good point. It is entirely possible the complaint about high tariffs is just a misconception (or outright lie) that has persisted through the ages. It sure is hard to sift the "unreliable narrator" bits out of the story sometimes.
  11. This is what I would say is my working theory as well. That just begs the question of why were all the Radiants ok with charging a high tax to use the Oathgates? Wouldn't there have been factions within the Knights Radiant that would have spoken out against abusing their powers in this manner?
  12. At first, I instinctively disagreed with this statement but then I realized I could not quote anything that does say the Old Magic is limited to one visit. Huh. Weird. Welp, maybe someone else knows the source for this or, perhaps, I am just guilty of harboring a false assumption. Edit: Welcome to the 17th Shard btw! Always great to have new people! Btw, I think a mod will move this to the Stormlight Archive forum at some point.
  13. After a cursory search of the forums, I did not find the answer to the following question: Can any Oathgate teleport people to any other Oathgate? E.g. Assuming all Oathgates are unlocked (they currently are not) could the Stormseat Oathgate teleport a group of people to Kholinar (assuming a Radiant was there to activate the gate and the appropriate amount of Stormlight was available etc.)? I would venture a guess that yes, they can. The description of the Stormseat Oathgate in Words of Radiance suggests that Shallan had to select Uruthiru as the destination but that she could have chosen eight (8) other options. Lucky for everyone she did not do that as those gates are locked. On the other hand, we have in-world evidence that trade passed through Uruthiru during the era of the... uh, Silver Kingdoms? (Sorry, at work so I cannot look up exactly what the quote is nor what era it is from). There is a specific complaint about how Uruthiru was charging higher and higher tariffs for trade passing through the Oathgates. This makes it seem as if one first had to go to Uruthiru and then, from there, select another Oathgate to go to. Now, I assume it is possible that this type of travel was imposed by the Knights Radiant who refused to do direct travel from, say, Kholinar to Stormseat but I find it highly unlikely that every single Radiant would enforce such a decree. Would there not have been Radiants who disagreed with forcing all trade through Uruthiru at usurious rates? Anywho, it was just a thought I had while thinking of the Oathgates and all they entail. What say you Sharders? Was Uruthiru a hub by design or by decree?
  14. If Dalinar is a man of his word (and I think he is) then he will have no say in Adolin's punishment once the murder comes to light. The oath Dalinar accepted from Elhokar specifically states that the Highprinces answer only to Elhokar, not to Dalinar. Elhokar is a bit of a wild card. I am honestly unsure of how he will handle Adolin's case. I would guess that Elhokar will decide to be harsh on Adolin to remove any doubts of favoritism and to help cement his authority.
  15. Welp, so much for that thought. Thanks for the heads up! If I had any upvotes left you would get one haha. Alas, I used them all up.
  16. Nice timeline. I was busy looking stuff up but this feel right. So, 4 weeks is 20 days (5 days in a week on Roshar iirc) so we have a minimum of 20 travel days with a max of around 30. I cannot seem to find the map of Roshar that has a legend with the distance marked off but, going on fallible memory, it looks like there is a minimum of 1000 km (620+ mi) [see blue line] between the Shattered Plains and Kholinar. Add to that the fact that Hearthstone is past Kholinar if one was heading from the Shattered Plains [see purple line] and it makes it highly unlikely that the refugee Last Legion group is the one Kaladin found. Damnation. I really thought I was being clever by noticing that the refugee group could be the one's Kaladin sought.
  17. As I understand it, the Heralds kept their blades with them until the prologue of the Way of Kings when they abandoned their oaths and their blades. Which means that when the Heralds "respawned" during previous Desolations their blades were, I assume, already with them.
  18. While I agree this is possible I also think it is unlikely as Taravangian would be found out almost immediately. The Stormfather, Glys, or Pattern can easily tell that the "Radiant" lacks a spren and is wielding an Honorblade. I think it is more likely that Taravangian has an honest-to-goodness proto-Radiant/Radiant on his side. Also, frankly, I will be a bit surprised if the Honorblades can activate the Oathgates as they are not living spren but rather more of a fabrial.
  19. I did read through the comments and have many similar feelings. - Voyeur Syl! Hilarious. - Only one other person thinks the Parshmen that attacked the Alethi village for grain were the Last Legion (Eshonai's villagers who escaped)? - The way the wrist issue was resolved, after it spawned such intense debate and theories, made me lol so hard haha - Mr. T is coming to Uruthiru? I imagine he will try to pull a coup similar to what he did in Jah Kaved. He will will make himself indispensable, in some way, to Dalinar and then try to have Dalinar removed (nice way of saying assassinated). To push the theory a bit farther, Szeth will, in some way, be responsible for saving Dalinar from Mr. T. Well, Szeth or, perhaps, Graves/Moash. Man, reading Oathbringer three chapters at a time is brutal!
  20. Dalinar is not just anyone haha. Any Syl likes Dalinar.
  21. The "they" in that sentence is the group Shallan is with (those who came to Uruthiru with Dalinar) and does not reference Jasnah. "Jasnah had searched this place out in the hope of finding books and records here of ancient date; so far, [Dalinar and Co.] hadn’t found anything like that."
  22. Wish I could upvote this more. It always bothered me that Shallan not only found someone to teach her to be duplicitous and a con-artist but that same person also happened to be the person behind the attack on Jasnah. Oh well. Characters need to develop somehow.
  23. Uh oh, here we go again! *grabs popcorn* On topic: As far as I am aware, we are not yet sure what the black sphere is. There are plenty of theories (an Unmade is trapped in it, it is filled with Voidlight, etc.) but, so far, there is no concrete explanation that I know of.
  24. Human because blue and red is so in right now! Who would have a better Tinder profile: Dalinar or Sixth of the Dusk?
  25. So, I was trying to cancel my PSN (Playstation Network) subscription and during the course of that event I noticed that my account had several dozen episodes to a show called "Powers". Check out the description for the show and tell me if it sounds familiar to you (emphasis mine): "An inside look at Powers: A PlayStation Original series, based on two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as "Powers." Set amidst today’s paparazzi culture, Powers asks the questions: what if the world was full of superheroes who aren’t actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals? Includes behind the scenes footage, exclusive interviews with cast and crew, and a first look at scenes from the series."
