Perhaps I am misunderstanding you here but, as far as I know, all the sections of every planet (Threnody, Roshar, Scadrial, etc.) are represented in the Cognitive Realm. In Secret History, we see Kelsier travel all over the Final Empire (and beyond) in the Cognitive Realm. So, assuming you already knew that, this means you meant something else: 1) If you meant the fortress we see, that is not of Threnody. You probably do not mean this. 2) Perhaps you are referring to the Ire being worried about the Shades crossing over from Threnody. In this case, as far as I know, the reason the Shades are a threat to the Ire is because the Shades exist in the Cognitive Realm and can wander far enough to reach the fortress and cause problems. It has nothing to do with, again as far as I know, a portion of the Physical Realm of Threnody bleeding into the Cognitive Realm. 3) Something else? If you do not mind clarifying a bit what you meant by "a section of threnody [sic] was in the cognitive realm [sic]" then I think that would help us theorize with you better. Cheers!

I agree with this.

There is always another secret... like getting one of the 17th Shard onto said security detail. Muahahahahahahahaha!
-
Perhaps if Brandon recognized the depths to which we go to draw conclusions he would either tell us everything or refuse to ever speak to anyone on this site again haha. +1 for the theory; I hope you are right. +10 if this is a meta-ironic post trolling the rest of the 17th Shard for the obsessive way they over-analyze every single thing Brandon says or writes.

I cannot tell if all of the grammatical mistakes in these headlines are ironic or accidental... On topic: A darkeyes took down a full Shardbearer and then did this! 10 topics for your first date with a prince! Hint: it includes self-defecation! A young girl robs the Bronze Palace in Azir but what she does next is AWESOME!

That is a fair point. "Outrage" was probably a poor choice of words. I think there is nothing wrong with wanting to help someone correct mistakes - in fact, it can be quite noble to offer to help others! On the other hand, if all we ever offer is criticism than I think we will quickly be ignored haha. A little praise sure goes a long way, eh?

I just read the original article (nice job @ButChrisNo) and I think our collective Shardic outrage might be a tad over-the-top. While there definitely is some speculation mixed in with the hard facts, I think Chris did a pretty solid job of giving the casual reader a brief overview of the Shards, the worldhoppers, and just how much is going on behind the scenes. There is room for improvement but I think it would be appropriate to give a bit more praise to Chris for his hard work. Those charts are pretty dang cool and the article is, all things considered, quite well written. Also, kudos to Chris for being so cheerful about the corrections!

I regret having but one up-vote to give.

I am with you on this. If you have seen the American TV show "Parks & Recreation" then you will appreciate this comparison: those of us who do not understand the "the stick" love are just like Ben Wyatt and his utter confusion over everyone's love of Lil' Sebastian.

The Changing Nature of Nightblood (my 5th Crazy Theory)
CaptainRyan replied to FiveLate's topic in Cosmere Discussion
My head canon for this is that Lifeless are immune to the breath-sucking effect of Nightblood. I have no idea if this is true but that is how I dealt with the weird claim Vasher made of being afraid of Lifeless using Nightblood-style weapons. -
New here, looking for suggestions
CaptainRyan replied to Realitytripp's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Yep, I believe you can download a PDF of it. Try here: https://brandonsanderson.com/warbreaker-introduction/ -
Tough questions indeed! I, personally, would recommend buying up books you don't own first (Elantris, etc.). Then buy some paperbacks to lend/give away. I've probably given out half a dozen copies of the first Mistborn trilogy in paperback/e-book format to people and I've always gotten a really positive response.

Excellent question! There is a WoB (word of Brandon) where he talks about how this is a highly debated question in the Cosmere. Some scholars will tell you that the actual person is the Cognitive Shadow while others will say it is merely an echo. Brandon himself has not, as far as I can tell, definitively answered the question as he seems content to allow people to believe what they will.

New here and looing for suggestions
CaptainRyan replied to Realitytripp's topic in Introduce Yourself!
I responded on the other thread but I wanted to stress that "Warbreaker" has tie-ins with the Stormlight Archive that, I think, add a bit of flavor to both stories. I highly suggest this next. Of course, the next Mistborn series, the Wax & Wayne novels, are amazing as well so you really cannot go wrong there (bit of a disclaimer - I did not like "Shadows of Self", one of the W&W Mistborn novels, nearly as much as the rest). -

Warbreaker, by Brandon Sanderson, is probably something good to read before getting more Stormlight Archive. There is a bit of a crossover between the two series. Non-Sanderson: Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss (just trust me on this if you have not read it) Lies of Locke Lamora - Scott Lynch (pretend this book does not have sequels as the next two books are hot garbage) the Expanse series - James S.A. Corey (up to, erm, 6(?) books so far and it is a fun sci-fi read) Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams (amazing British humor novel - the follow ups are good too) the Count of Monte Cristo - Alexander Dumas (a true classic that has one of the best storylines I have ever read) Let me know if you want more suggestions! -
Brandon's secret project(s)
CaptainRyan replied to CaptainRyan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Oh I hear you on that. I do not feel like he is obligated to provide more! As you said, his output is already so above average that demanding more would be the epitome of selfishness. On the other hand, I would not be surprised if he was working on something secretly haha. -
Brandon's secret project(s)
CaptainRyan replied to CaptainRyan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Excellent share! Thank you for this! Brandon has slipped books into his schedule in the past (see Bands of Mourning AND Secret History written in, uh, secret haha) so I have a hope that he will have something for us in the next little bit. #1 hope is that he wrote "Nightblood" to clear up what happened with Vasher. #2 hope is that he wrote "the Lost Metal". -
[OB] Clue to Odium's Imprisonment? (Spoilers)
CaptainRyan replied to Obnoxiousspren's topic in Stormlight Archive
All good questions. I have no idea haha. Perhaps it varies from gem to gem? Perhaps there is one cut to rule them all? -
[OB] Clue to Odium's Imprisonment? (Spoilers)
CaptainRyan replied to Obnoxiousspren's topic in Stormlight Archive
While I could be wrong, I always assumed that Brandon's reference to a "perfectly cut gemstone" meant that the gemstone was cut in some sort of geometric pattern; not into a sphere. Remember, "spheres" (money on Roshar) are actually just glass spheres with a cut gemstone in the center - it is the cut gemstone that holds stormlight. -
Currently, on Brandon's website, the following four projects are listed: Oathbringer revisions Snapshot Alcatraz: Dark Talent Edgedancer Three out of four of those items have been finished for months and have already been released! My hypothesis is that Brandon has been spending time working on something else! Perhaps we will get the "Lost Metal" (final Wax and Wayne book) sooner than we hoped? Or maybe "Nightblood" (Warbreaker's sequel) is quietly being finished? What say ye Sharders? Is Brandon working on something without telling us? If so, what do you think it is?
-
I do not know the answer to your question but you can try contacting through the website. His assistant Adam will probably get back to you fairly quickly with some information. Another option is to try tweeting at Brandon; he is pretty good about responding. Also, small chance that this will work but... @PeterAhlstrom! Any chance you know the answer to this question about the Oathbringer tour?

Nice catch! I am doing a re-listen to WoK right now and I noticed that both Gaz and some of the kids from Kaladin's flashbacks use that insult. I did not make the connection that Gaz, therefore, might be from Hearthstone. I just assumed that Kaladin would recognize someone from his home buuuuttttt, it has been 4 or 5 years since Kaladin was in Hearthstone and Gaz has definitely suffered some scars/loss of an eye that might make him unrecognizable enough. That being said, Gaz did try to have Kaladin killed from minute one (sending Kaladin to Bridge 4 with no shoes/padded vest) so I would hope that if Gaz really was from Hearthstone then Brandon would have done a better job of foreshadowing it than a single insult.
