  1. Ooo, I like this. I like this a lot. If Amaram is Highprince I bet Ialai will also remain a force to be reckoned with. She most likely knows of Sadeas' understanding with Amaram. I think it would be a clever way to keep both characters relevant. +1
  2. The short answer, as far as I am aware, is no. There has been discussion of it before but I do not think Brandon has allowed this to be canonically defined. Frankly, I'd be surprised if he did.
  3. I Hate Dragons: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/691-verified-locations-for-unreleased-bookschapters-and-sample-chapters-of-published-books/ Dreamer: I believe you have to purchase the anthology called "Games Creatures Play". I picked it up as a stand-alone in a humble bundle deal. There is also a preview for it in the above link. Dragonsteel: You have to check it out from the BYU (Provo campus) library in person. I think. As far as I know it is not available online. Also, as far as I am aware, you cannot, in most areas, discuss the contents of Dragonsteel on this site. There are sample chapters from "the Liar of Partinel" which is related to Dragonsteel. Check the above link.
  4. I believe there is a WoB/annotation that says the Lord Ruler used the power of the Well (the shard of Preservation) to make himself a super strong Mistborn (even stronger than Elend, who gained Allomancy from a bead of Lerasium). I would venture a guess that Leras would generally refrain from granting people Allomantic powers because of his desire to preserve them in their natural state. Granting Allomancy would change them, no? Personally, I would be interested to watch, from a distance, someone try to blend Atium and Lerasium. I think there would be a rather distinct "boom".
  5. The only advantage I can think of, and I will admit outright that it is an edge case, is the scenario from Steelheart. Flaring Atium to avoid that, however, is one expensive form of prevention haha
  6. So, if I understand your position properly, you are saying that there is some minimum threshold for Atium burning that, once crossed, there is no significant gain to combat usefulness because both parties are seeing enough Connection to evade attacks? If so, I think I can buy into that.
  7. I agree with Calderis' response to #1 and #2. #3. I think having a stronger "base line" for your Allomancy (ala the Lord Ruler vs Vin) means that if both were burning atium then, all other things being equal, the Lord Ruler would have the advantage by being significantly stronger and, therefore, would see farther ahead. In general, the difference between two Mistborn (e.g. Vin vs Zane) is too small to be significant but I think TLR's "power level" is high enough to be noticeable. There are plenty of in book references to how noticeable the difference in the TLR's power versus other Allomancers was. I think it is fair to theorize that if his zinc/steel/iron/brass were significantly more powerful that Vin's/Kelsier's powers then it stands to reason his Atium burning would be more powerful too. Powerful enough to be noticeable. #4. If two Atium Mistings or two Mistborn of relatively equal power are fighting and one flares but the other does not then I would guess that the one flaring would have an advantage. Since both can flare, however, it would just cancel out.
  8. Brandon said he has convinced Tor to release ~25% of Oathbringer as sample chapters! Whoa! How do you feel about that Sharders? Is that too much? Not enough? Who cares give me Oathbringer RIGHT MEOW?! Considering how big Oathbringer is the free sample chapters will probably be, in total, larger than many stand-alone books! 9. Sorry, I was unclear. I meant that there will probably be a book/novella that uses Aethers as the main magic system in the future but that it will not be the same story as the unpublished Aether of Night.
  10. White Sands is pretty solid all by itself. If it ever does get published I imagine it would only be a slightly more polished version of the current prose. Aether of Night, if it ever gets published, will be reworked substantially. So much has been cannibalized from that story for other Cosmere works that I honestly doubt it will ever be published in its current form. My best guess is that the magic system of Aethers will eventually show up somewhere but that the story won't match Aether of Night. *Disclaimer: Just my guesses
  11. It was rape but it was ok because it was a male author writing a man getting raped by a woman. Right? ... Right?
  12. 100% agree. The only parts worse than Perrin were the "Adventures of the Super Girls" parts. Ugh.
  13. @officiumdefunctorum I promise I am not stalking you haha! Honestly, I was a huge fan of Mat both pre- and post-Jordan. Sanderson did his best to blend his voice with Jordan's but I totally see where you are coming from. Many of the characters felt quite a bit different. Sadly, I think it was inevitable regardless of who finished the series. That being said, however, one of my all-time favorite scenes from WoT involves post-Jordan Mat. When the Band is riding through the mountains after escaping Ebou Dar and Mat is ranting to Talmanes about women... oh man. It cracks me up every time! I generally read that monologue once or twice a year haha.
  14. If daes dae'mar is your thing then you do you my friend haha! Book 1 of the Expanse series: https://smile.amazon.com/Leviathan-Wakes-Expanse-Book-1-ebook/dp/B0047Y171G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501202037&sr=8-1&keywords=the+expanse+book+1 They are up to book 6 out of a projected 9 (I think). About ~1 per year so we are getting close to the end.
  15. People love upvotes even though they do not have any significant effect. As you gather more upvotes the title under your profile picture changes. That's about it haha. It is generally courteous to upvote but by no means required. I'm sure we all have our own methods of determining what posts are "worthy" of an upvote. Fyi, you can only hand out sixteen (16) upvotes per day. Also, welcome! If you have not read the Expanse series yet then I would highly recommend it. P.S. Good on you for not using Reddit btw. I avoid that site like the plague!
  16. Strange dreams during highstorms seems rather significant. Could it be another proto-bondsmith who died? I agree with you here. I have also wondered if this fellow was a proto-bondsmith or if they just happened to have some sort of connection issue. Off topic but "connection issue" in the Cosmere will have strange meanings once the internet is invented haha Anywho, according to a timeline I found online at this place it says that Bridge Four rescued Dalinar's army in 1173. If I recall correctly, Dalinar makes an off-hand comment about how he has been seeing visions for the past 5-6 months during tWoK. So, it could mean Dalinar started seeing the visions right after this fellow died or it could mean there was some overlap. It would require more investigation to see if I am remembering what Dalinar said correctly and what order the months are in. I think that is how the visions have to be received. Also, I think I remember Taravangian mentioning that Gavilar confided to him (Taravangian) about his (Gavilar's) visions. So, I believe Gavilar received the visions and I believe he received them during highstorms.
  17. I am 84% sure the character's full name is: Jonathan Drake. Maybe. Haha
  18. Upvote for cleverness!
  19. Welcome to the 17th Shard @Sheity Williams! I completely agree that the longer a (good) book is, the better! Besides the Stormlight Archive, I absolutely love the unabridged version of "the Count of Monte Cristo". Sooooo good and sooooo big haha. I know how cliche it sounds to compliment a non-native speaker on their English skills but I must say that I am super impressed with your English!
  20. As someone who disliked SoS quite a bit, I will share my personal problems: - It was an episode of "24". Everything happened over an incredibly short period of time and it felt forced/rushed. - Steel running is OP and Bleeder should/could have been invincible. - Harmony could have solved this issue easily; he could not see/feel Bleeder but once she struck somewhere all he had to do was track her using other people's eyes/minds. - Going along with above, when you include a nearly omnipotent and omniscient being in a book then you reeeeaaaaaallllllyyyyy have to stretch to make the issue seem difficult. - The scene where the kandra "priest" is revealed to the crowd is not believable to me; everyone watching reacted in a perfect way for the plot but, in reality, I feel like the mob would freak out at seeing some random guy stab a priest to death in front of them. - There was no true sense of danger to me. Bleeder obviously refused to kill Wax so any action sequence had no suspense. The ultimate plot of "overthrowing" the government did not really seem like a calamity. If Bleeder had succeeded then... uh. Yeah. I did not feel invested in the success of the team. - I shipped Wax and Marasi. It has been awhile since I read SoS so I'm sure if I reread it I would remember other reasons for my dislike. Brandon himself said he had trouble writing SoS and that is why he wrote BoM then went back to SoS. When I finished SoS for the first time I felt as if I had read my first bad Cosmere book and once I found out Brandon had issues writing SoS I went "Ah, I noticed".
  21. FF6 (FFIII for Americans) is confirmed to be Cosmere (see attached pic). Terra = Vin Locke = Hoid Celes = Shalan (6 character limit for names necessitated this) Edgar = Raoden Sabin = Ham Cyan = Vasher Shadow = Szeth Gau = Dusk Mog = MeLaan (kandra can shift genders) These are all of the Worldhoppers I have discovered so far during my replay but I am sure there are more waiting to be found!
  22. It took me a long time but that is her cloak; you can see how the long tatter crosses in front of her leg. She is not holding anything. The color is from the sun - you can see similar coloration on the left side of her torso. Or, at least, that is how I see it after starring for, what would be in real life, a rude amount of time.
  23. Is that her makeshift "safe hand" cover? But, oh my, her THUMB is exposed!
  24. @Toaster Retribution
  25. Shardplate and Shardblades, I believe, can be pushed/pulled on but they are very resistant. For Vin I would imagine it requires her to use Duralumin.
