  1. General Thoughts: Sick of no Kaladin weeks. GIVE ME MORE KALADIN! Chapter 28: Dalinar seems to be picking up his Surgebinding skills rather quickly. Also, I wish we would get to see what Tension does! Dalinar the dreamstalker. If he was of a more devious/deviant mindset this could get... weird. (Un?)Fortunately, Dalinar will probably just stick to using it in a useful way. Chapter 29/30: An Unmade! Did anyone else think the battle against a powerful splinter of Odium was a bit... weak? Was this a trick to make team not-Odium more confident? Was Re-Sephir hampered in some way? The fact that 2 Pseudo-Radiant, 1 shardbearer, and ~30 soldiers could chase off an Unmade was a bit of a weak opener for them. Now, to be fair, Shallan did say that Re-Sephir could have overwhelmed Bridge 4 and the others pretty quickly if it wanted to but it is one thing for Shallan to say that and another thing for that to happen on-screen for the first appearance of an Unmade. I mean, no one even died! It was a very lackluster display of Unmade power imo. Side-thought: In the vision where Dalinar sees the Midnight Essence (page 306 of first edition Kindle version of "the Way of Kings") the Radiant says "No, this was Midnight Essence, though who released it is still a mystery." Released it. As in, Re-Sephir might have been captive during this time as well! Closing Thoughts: I agree with @Oversleep that the image with the blue oval matches too closely with the Elantris mural to be coincidence. The Uruthiru mural is also, imo, about worldhopping. @Steeldancer's theory about the Unmade being related to the Heralds breaking seems pretty sound to me. Personally, I think the "break under torture" thing might be related, somehow, to breaking the Heralds' bond to something and allowing Odium to bond one of his Splinters (an Unmade) to whatever it was the Herald was bonded to.
  2. Bribe Peter Ahlstrom. If he proves too valorous to submit to bribes, try threatening* him (e.g. Steal all of his cheese so he cannot make his trademark cheese sandwiches!) *Disclaimer: this is a satirical response. Please do not threaten Peter. That would be a really, really dumb thing to do for a variety of reasons.
  3. I like the idea! Have an upvote! To build on it, using malatium to see other people's past could help you sell strong stamps to others.
  4. Give the poor fellow another few weeks. Welcome @MyrddinEmrys! You have joined the right community if you are looking for understanding in the ways of Cosmere hunger! I totally encourage you to get involved here at the Shard but beware that spoilers are everywhere! I highly recommend you avoid the "Stormlight" Archive subforum and the "Cosmere Theories" subforum until you have finished "Way of Kings", "Words of Radiance", and "Edgedancer". I'm sure you are aware but the third Stormlight Archive book, "Oathbringer" is going to be released in 15 days and many people on this site are going to be throwing out theories, ideas, crazy ramblings, and all sorts of other stuff in anticipation.
  5. @Fifth of Daybreak, actually, we do. In "Words of Radiance" we are specifically told that Taln is kept in dim light because that is the current best known treatment for dealing with the mentally ill. Again, if Cultivation powered sunlight really did help with mental issues then the Heralds would have passed that knowledge along in the same manner they taught hygiene, surgery, etc. Apologies for not citing the exact portion but I'm on mobile and in a bit of a hurry.
  6. What I meant was that the Everstorm doesn't seem to weaken as it crosses the continent like a Highstorm does. Or, maybe even if it did, that means it is freshest when it hits Shinovar. Out of curiosity, what sort of protection do you think Shinovar has? I'm was not aware that the Everstorm is less fierce than a Highstorm. What makes you say that?
  7. The company I am working at is celebrating the launch of our new product today. My calendar reminder popped up saying "Ship party" in 15 minutes. I groaned inwardly as my mind first assumed it meant that I was going to a party where everyone debates who they "ship" in the various series.
  8. I think A Song of Ice and Fire is forcing a lot of people to confront their mortality haha
  9. I hear you loud and clear. There are a couple of series I follow that have been stalled for awhile. I completely respect that the author has no responsibility to write me books but, yeah, it can still be so frustrating wanting more but knowing that the next book might never be written. Also, always feel free to rant! If you keep it bottled up you'll end up like poor Szeth or Shallan haha
  10. Just over two and a half years new.
  11. I think this is a great question. I have no idea what the answer is but +1 to you for asking!
  12. Tricky. I thought about the tomorrow option but then I realized I do not want it tomorrow. I think Dragonsteel will contain a ton of spoilers and I'd rather read it in the order the Brandon thinks is best. So, I chose $50. I think Stormlight and Mistborn have a decent chance of being done in 30 years and, if Dragonsteel is released to the public sooner, then I'm only out $50.
  13. Noted. On topic: On the off chance that I am reading a physical copy of a book, I use a bookmark. I got an Alcatraz bonus item by visiting an airport bookstore that Sanderson had been to recently so I generally use that.
  14. I rarely read the physical copy (though I always buy them). I use Kindle for reading and physical copy for my beautiful, beautiful bookshelves.
  15. Let me first say that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence but don't you think that someone would have noticed that putting a patient in direct sunlight had a measurable effect on their pain level? Or wouldn't the Heralds have shared this wisdom in the same way they passed on knowledge about rot spren and other medical issues? Personally, I think that it is a big stretch to say Cultivation's investiture filters through sunlight based on these passages. Fair point. I concede this line of inquiry on my part was ill-considered. Forgiven! (Also tongue-in-cheek response haha) What I meant was that if the theory is "Cultivation's investiture is carried via sunlight" then there should be some sort of mechanism attached (see previous spoilered Taldain stuff). We have not seen any evidence of anyone using sunlight to power anything (surges, fabrials, gemstones, etc.) but we have seen evidence of Stormlight powering all of these. If sunlight was involved, somehow, in the process of magic usage on Roshar then I think Brandon has done an awful job of foreshadowing or preparing readers in any way to accept this.
  16. Spoiler for White Sands as we are not in that subforum:
  17. IIRC, Kaladin was actually holding only a little bit at a time as he did not want to glow too obviously. Also, contrast this scene with Szeth fighting Gavilar in the prologue of "Way of Kings"; Szeth makes a remark about needing hours to fully heal from the punch to his face. Hours. (page 33 of the first edition on Kindle) Now, maybe, this is related to using an Honorblade instead of having a Nahel bond but it does set certain expectations right from the beginning that are then drastically changed when the scene @Stormrunner1730 mentions happens. Another improbable explanation is that Kaladin overstated his injuries but, being a surgeon, it is unlikely he misunderstood what happened. My take is that yes, you have to suspend your disbelief for this. Thankfully, this scene is so amazing anyways that I'm more than willing to just ignore it haha
  18. Hi team, Two part thought today: 1. How, if ever, will the Everstorm be stopped? Or will it be a new feature of Roshar that persists? If/when Odium is defeated/leaves, will the Everstorm remain? 2. Does the Everstorm just straight up wreck Shinovar? They have been protected from Highstorms thanks to their big mountains in the east and the fact that Highstorms weaken but their western mountains are less imposing and, as far as I can tell, the Everstorm has a more constant level of power. Thoughts? WoBs? Remember, we are not in the Oathbringer sub-forum so please do not use anything from there.
  19. I'm in lesbians with you for writing this!
  20. Those are some pro numbers @Overstorm. Pro I say!
  21. An n of 50? Those are rookie numbers @Overstorm, you gotta pump those up!
  22. Uhhh, I gotta pee on her. I mean, I gotta pee. *knock knock* Pee time. disclaimer: I promise I'm not creepy! It is a movie quote!
  23. You could write a skill for Microsoft's new Invoke speaker that is powered by Cortana to hook into the Arcanum! disclaimer: I work on the Cortana team and may be biased about this
  24. I found your use case: "Hey Arcanum, find me all the WoBs with "dustbringers" in them." Voice controlled WoB searches.
