  1. I believe it was just like atium coming in geodes which were needed to crack to get to the bead inside. Lerasium comes with ceramic-like-thing around it.
  2. It doesn't want to change. Learning is like building a house of cards.
  3. Would somebody be interested in a very short text from the setting I described earlier? I wrote it already in Polish, but I could try to translate it to English. It's sort of what-if-story in urban fantasy which have just gone post-apo.
  4. It is a low-dimensional projection of the complex reality. Life is like a storm.
  5. I think he meant the door analogy... I am not sure anymore about storing Allomancy in lerasium (and its alloys). It's completely useless for Feruchemists without any Allomantic ability.

  7. Well, like in math you could get into imaginary numbers, you could create some theoretical gems maybe? Like doing a thought experiment with making a fabrial. Yeah, that's true for many people. For example, being good with WoBs is important for almost every Theorybinder. Since the Orders I posted are still Theoretical and haven't been yet Proved into existence (with exception of Theoryweavers), we could - theoretically (gotta love the puns) - make some adjustments... They share too much in common. As long as nobody collapses the quantum wave by joining, these Orders are theoretical and may be different. Collapsing the quantum wave in regard to Theories is known as 'Proving' or 'Disproving'. Or maybe I could lift the "One person - one Order" rule.
  8. They aren't simply good, they are awesome! Rothfuss may be the best author in terms of the mastery of the language; his story is captivating, and as far as the world and magic goes, it definitely could be cosmere. He also likes to play a bit with the tropes Rothfuss may not write fast (the wait for book three is killing us), but it's definitely worthy to read. As for the Sanderson = Rothfuss... Well, Sanderson did spike him for writing speed, so in return he referenced his books XD
  9. Well, the nature of the bond is mutual. In fact, a part of the Shard definitely has attracted a theoryspren, since they are involved with theories. The progress of Knight Theoretic is done by the efforts of the Knight himself; the Theory Bond does grant some power, but its achieved by hard work. You can probably swear the First Oath and see what kind of spren bonds with you. Oh, but theoryspren are attracted by some theorising. Some gems aren't gonna do it, but quick look at some of your theories makes me think you already attracted one. I guess you would be a Theoryshaper, what do you think?
  10. You may want to check out this. Paragraphs: First, Fifth and Sixth.
  11. Stormgate, 'checking before assuming'! Maybe it would help us if we listed everything which seems to be made from 'Shardblade material'? Shardblades, obviously. We know that they are a form a spren assumes when its pulled enough in Physical Realm Shardplates Oathgates possibly more Radiant fabrials like Oathgates? Am I missing something?
  12. Compounding Aons! What would happen if you tried to burn metal in shape of Aon or metal with Aon carved into it?! As for where you were going with this, I assume you were going for maximal Investiture output. So Scadrian/Selish parents, to become Mistborn Elantrian, then get some Breaths and attract a spren and become Radiant. Both Sel and Nalthis require to be born on the planet, but since Breaths can be given away, I picked being born on Sel.
  13. He can read glyphs, but not the alphabet (or whatever it's called). His books were mainly illustrations with descriptions written in glyphs. That's just like Shallan translated mathematical equations for forecasting highstorms for her brother from the normal writing to glyphs co he could understand. Edit: Ninja'd by the admin!
  14. Another thing about Shardplate. I believe Radiants grow it, just like warform Listeners grow armor.
  15. I feel obliged that everything depends on your indexing of memories. There are many ways to organize data structures and some are pretty effective, and with double zinc TLR would have nearly instantaneous access to any memory he wanted.
  16. I am sorry if somebody was offended by my previous post. If today, on Earth, some people gained ability to warp some kind of field to shape reality how they want, would it be magic or technology? Because that's what we're arguing here. Some people would say "that's a new discovery, but nothing supernatural" and some would say "superpowers/magic etc". I believe that's what the difference on our viewpoints is and it's kinda hard to convince the other side to yours.
  17. I found a WoB.
  18. Yeah, nobody would notice any difference between movement of electrons and using telekinesis. Or affecting other people's emotions. Which is powered by digesting a metal and power is directed by thoughts. And people sometimes see glowing lines pointing to the metals around and nobody sees them but the one burning the metal. Better yet, they are running around with metal spikes to steal fragments of their opponents' souls! Then they are driving them through their brains and are just fine. Easily confused with 'advanced technology'. I apologize for the sarcasm. As far as Cosmere is concerned, I'd say magic directly uses Investiture.
  19. Who said that magic cannot be a fundamental part of existence? I know there isn't any consistent definition of magic, but do you really think that drawing glowing symbols in the air and closing a circuit are really the same? Tell me how technology can power itself but draining things of color, be controlled by voice commands and animate anything. That's what I got problem with - how to explain why 3rd Clarke's Law sometimes doesn't work.
  20. Well, maybe Tanavast was just fond of symmetry and everything ended up like that. I agree there is something with the Rhythms, but I think the song which were Voidbringers singing was just synching them up. Listeners' Rhythms would be kinda like hive consciousness...? Emotions?
  21. Damnation, Stormgate! All my careful wording for nothing! I am not sure that passing of Metallic Arts is that simple. Traits often aren't coded by a single gene. My personal theory is that Investiture genes are coded in Spiritweb, and each are mutually paired with Investiture. So Mistborn has more Investiture (that's confirmed) than Misting and it's related to their powers. Feruchemists are alike. Now things get sticky, because Feruchemical and Allomantic genes interfere with each other. The amount of Investiture is higher, but not necessarily expressed. Hence more Metalborn, but no Full Metalborn (Mistborn xor Full Feruchemist). Number of people with heightened Investiture is higher, but the most probable outcomes are Ferrings, Mistings and Twinborn. If I were to order Metalborn probabilities, it would go like this: Ferring->Misting->Twinborn---->Full Feruchemist->Mistborn---->Full Feruchemist Misting -> Mistborn Ferring ----> Fullborn -> means equal or slighly more probable than the next ----> means much more probable than the next
  22. Welcome to the 17th Shard! Do you want a cookie? (Don't take cookies from anyone else, because their cookies are obviously Hemalurgical spikes. Mine aren't ) Okay, let's do this. Not compounds, but metals. Feruchemists store attributes in metalminds, copperminds are only one of the sixteen basic metalminds. Lord Ruler was a Full Feruchemist who burned Lerasium becoming Mistborn. Thus, he had become Fullborn (somebody who has all Feruchemical and Allomantic abilities). Twinborn is somebody who is both Misting and Ferring. So Wax is a Coinshot (Steel Misting) and Skimmer (Iron Fering). This combination of powers is known as Crasher. The answer to your questions is mixing Allomantic bloodlines with Feruchemical bloodlines. It didn't happen during The Final Empire, because of The Lord Ruler breeding program for Terrisan people. So nobles didn't have children with Terrisans, because TLR was afraid that a child could be born who was both a Full Feruchemist and a Mistborn, like him. But he didn't wipe Terrisans because he needed a source for Feruchemical abilities to spike and give his Inquisitors. While mixing bloodlines allowed for existence of people with both Allomantic and Feruchemical abilities, at the same time these genes repress each other, so there are none or almost none Mistborn or Full Feruchemists. But Metalborn (term for people with Allomantic and/or Feruchemical abilities) are much more common than they were during TLR rule. There is some speculation that there could be Full Feruchemists still around, but it is not confirmed as of now. Mistborn would be even more rare, since blood was diluted already during Final Empire (hence Mistings and rarity of Mistborns. Remember Straff's attempts to have a Mistborn child?). Edit: Edgedancer ninja'd with my addition of last paragraph! Buahahahaha!
  23. One Punch Man: Feruchemical pewter and steel for Saitama, so he can store it while he fights Maybe he could finally get a fair fairer fight. Hm, shouldn't this thread be in General Discussions or Entertainment or something?
  24. On the other hand, I like to distinguish Clarke 3rds Law Magic and True Magic. For example, the magic in "The Lord of Ice Garden" is basically ordering around a bunch of nanomachines with your thoughts - it definitely looks like magic, but take Naming from Earthsea or Kingkiller Chronicles (or any True Name magic) - ordering wind or fire or anything around is definitely magic and nobody could confuse it with supertechnology. In Cosmere, if something uses Investiture, then it's magic. No buts. (Or magitec, but definitely it isn't something which could be confused with sufficently advanced technology). Nobody who looks at Feruchemist, who touches a metal and one moment is moving in slow motion and in the other becomes a speedster, would say "Naaah, it could be some superadvanced technology". The same with drawing glowing symbols in the air with your fingers and then stuff happening. Or swallowing metals and then being able to use telekinesis or slow down time. Or inhaling some glowing gas which was contained in a gem (???) and then being able to reverse gravity.
