You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Oversleep replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
We have one publishing company infamous for that sort of thing. But not that one. Word is that the illustrator will be making all the Mistborn books. So at least the first six are secured, probably Lost Metal too. Who knows what future will bring? But right now they're on Sanderson publishing spree - we're getting a book every two months this year (AoL comes out this week, SoS, BoM, Elantris, Emperors Soul and the plan was for Oathbringer in autumn, but... I hope for Warbreaker.) -
Sorry Do we know where the magnetic pole is post-Catacendre?

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

Nope, Polish covers exclusively. They are from the new edition. When you put them togetrher on the bookshelf an image is forming depicting the buildings in the background. Really cool. -
As far as I remember the shift of the magnetic poles is so slow that it doesn't really matter. It ain't gonna happen overnight.

Well, spren are attracted to humans. That's what the deal with Radiants is - the spren are attracted to certain behaviour and traits: Syl was attracted to Kaladin because he was leading and protecting people. The oaths are certain milestones in progressing in such behaviour. As for why they come back when they sensed Desolation coming (probably they sensed Talenelat beginning to crack), I think that with people wiped out they will also suffer, as what shapes Cognitive Realm are human minds after all.

Yeah, but that's now. The Heralds were around for many thousands of years. I mean before Aharietam.
-
WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME?! *gets teary-eyed* FMA Shard is Exchange, probably.
-
I understand that at first they were the only Surgebinders when Honor gave them Honorblades. After some time (maybe a couple of Desolations) sprens figured it out and started bonding to human creating more Surgebinders. The Heralds were chosen by Almighty based on some unknown criterion, but I suppose they exhibited the traits commonly associated with them - Jezrien was leading and protecting, Nalan just and confident and so on. These are exactly the traits spren are attracted to (since Heralds are kind of role models for Knights Radiant). Question: Did Heralds attract Radiantspren? If not, why not?

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Oversleep replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Well, I prefer my books analog, not digital. And it's infinitely easier to get them on paper in my own language than shipping them from U.S.A or such. I once wanted to buy some comic books from USA and the cost of shipping was highstorming high. So I stick to local shops. Not to mention the language issues - I probably could read them in English, but checking a word now and then would be irritating. Another thing is that I'm not the only reader in my house - my mother also reads Sanderson and it would be impossible for her to read them in English. P.S. And we have the best Mistborn covers -
How does Odium Splinter other Shards?

I'd like to point out the very first description of Soulcasting. When Jasnah Soulcasts the rock which fell in Kharbranth to save Taravangian's granddaughter. Shallan describes hearing short sound, kind of low drumming, like distant voices singing clear note in unison or something like that.

Or he will give main protagonist an item he lost long ago and was missing it. Epilogue kind of thing. Something like that, just so Brandon can troll us.

theory Gavilar's Black Sphere and its content
Oversleep replied to manavortex's topic in Stormlight Archive
Brandon has statedt tha part of the reason why Odium isn't rampaging like Ruin did is that there is a fully alive, powerful Shard opposing him. So that's Cultivation. About mixing magic, this occurs when Intents are opposing. So on Roshar there isn't (probably) magic system of Honor, Cultivation and both of them - I'd rather say that Surgebinding is just of both of them. The idea about Nightwatcher seems interesting. About voidspren and Unmade - I think that Odium chose to Invest a little of his power on Braize, since he already was trapped there for millenia, thus creating voidspren to possess Listeners; then the Voidbringers will wipe out humans and he will take his power back to attack Cultivation. Or that's what he plans to do. What's interesting is that Listeners normally bound to sprens (we do not know which ones, but probably not Radiantspren) to change forms, they can bond voidspren becoming Voidbringers and it's not impossible for them to bond Radiantspren. I will wait for Eshonai in stormform to bond her Radiantspren and merge the magics into one. -
No need, I already passed this course Branching is fine as long as there are frequent bridges in the graph. I wonder why did SuperTaravangian encode one paragraph of the text in "pattern 15" using "pattern 1" as key. Or how writing two texts every second letter together was better than writing it normally.

To quote Hoid: "You have to know the law before you break it". When you start seeing world in numbers (happens to math students who, for example, subconsciously choose the shortest path implementing algorithms they learned about) and you perceive it in an abstract kind of way you can manipulate it easier, as you are a little on the side from it (like you're watching a match instead of playing it. You start seeing...well...patterns). It's easier to lie with that mindset. The best lies have to grow out from the world and be plausible. You have to know what is true, what is possible, what's unlikely but that person before you may still believe... It's also about chances.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Oversleep replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Well, the construction "Knights Radiant" in Polish in this sentence is plural, so... It isn't simply the case of adding the "s" at the end of Radiant. So yeah, I got Radiants and that's correct. Unfortunately, they did translate the code and it's even correct! But a lot of numbers are off(and some misspels and some missing letters) and if I didn't know what I'm looking for I wouldn't solve it by myself. You're a Sanderfan when your dream last night was that Brandon finally came to your country, you made it to the event and then forgot some super-important question you wanted to ask. So instead you asked if Mistborn Elantrians can Compound Aons. -
So, what's the deal: I have my books translated to Polish. I recently tried to crack the Diagram code, since you guys figured it out and I found that the code is often misspeled and lacking several letters. (Impossible to crack in this version, I had to know what words I'm looking for) I may be contacting the publisher, but I am sure there are more problems with it: for example, the word "Investiture" isn't anywhere in the book. And from English quotes I am sure it should be. Also, they messed up the translation of Hoid's "perfect pitch" - it was translated as if tuning instrument perfectly was what he had in mind. So there goes the hint for the Second Heightening for all the Polish readers. Sigh. Could you throw some quotes at me? Mainly cosmere important stuff, like anything with "Investiture" in it. The time is of crucial meaning here, since I don't know if anything can be done as the new print comes out in three weeks. So the faster I contact them, the better.

No, IIRC Charter was Free Magic somehow restricted by symbols... And there was some difference between Free Magic and Necromancy, but they tended to intermingle. And Free Magic could corrupt Charter... confusing. The Charter and Free Magic are similar to Sel - Free Magic would be channeling Dor freely and Charter would be using symbols like in AonDor, DakHor, ChayShan and Forgery.

Maybe "crafting a weapon" refers to using Szeth as a weapon to further their goals. Like, "there is this Truthless with Honorblade, think we can obtain him and make use of him? Would he be useful or is he too dangerous for us since we're dealing with Desolation and that's what his deal with Truthlessness is?"

I thought it more like providing facts and information which the theoryposter may not know or forget. It's more like not overthinking how mad you are or how much the theory may be implausible - as long as you adhere to the First Ideal, so there's nothing contradicting your theory. Look up my "Taln is Rayse" theory, for example. Sigh - I haven't yet figuref out Theorycallers, so if you have a better idea for them, feel free to post it. They look at known facts and then get on a ride with them - extrapolation is a key word here. Theorywardens are another one I have problem with, you got an idea, tell me. Was it that obvious? Theorysmiths would be some crazy people who go through the books for the 17th time, noting all the small details which we glossed over and finding connections between them. Common reaction to them would be "I haven't noticed that". They're rare. Theoryspren are partially imaginary, so they have more dimensions that we do. Don't worry if you notice something strange.

I just want to remind we do not talk about unpublished books like Dragonsteel or Liar Of Partinel. As for the Hoid and Seventeenth Shard, I think they're just after him because they believe in non-intervention and he's running around inspirating heroes and stuff and collecting Investiture abilities.

Is it confirmed that Odium implemented that weapon to Splinter Shards?
-
On the other hand, by assassinating Gavilar they were trying to prevent "bringing back their gods" a.k.a Final Desolation.
