  1. If you have this translated or you can read in English... Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski. You probably have heard of the game, but game is set after the finale of the books and its kind of alternate continuity. I can't recommend it enough. Really, I can't. P.S. you should probably start not with the "Blood of the elves" but with one of the short stories collection, since they were the first chronologically and lay some fundations for the saga. But of course you can start with the "Blood of the elves", you will catch on pretty quick.
  2. I don't know, really... Yo mama joke? A little low (for somebody who is as creative as Brandon, that is).
  3. Well, for every four new alloys one of them steals Allomantic abilities tied to these metals and another one steals Feruchemical abilities tied to these metals. Another one or two would steal some human attribute. At least on Scadrial... And AonDor isn't really that codified. It's more like - "this Aon means X, it does something related to X". But Three Metallic Arts are heavily systematized - there can be only that much alloys (for example, take lerasium and base metals - there can be only 16 lerasium alloys of base metals, no more, no less. You can read about that in my Three Metallic Arts theory, link in my sign). And each of them has to do something specific and they have to be grouped. It gets worse (or better) in Allomancy with Pushing/Pulling Interior/Exterior division.
  4. Well, being a Radiant wouldn't be only about Stormlight efficiency. It also brings Shardplate with it... Surgebinding is fun and all, but shapeshifting Shardblade and some protection in the form of Shardplate? Which Herald could resist that?
  5. 256 different perks? Even Brandon is not that crazy. I think he'll go with something like half this, half this - "this allomantic metal gives you X and this feruchemical metal gives you Y". Of course, this effects have to mesh somehow since it has to be one ability.
  6. What's the difference between redhead and Lifeless? One of them has a soul.
  7. Well, with the Asimov on the list you should also try Philip K. Dick. I have read only Blade Runner as of now, but it was good. And I haven't seen anyone recommend Ursula Le Guin - Wizard of the Earthsea is mandatory. It's one of the fundaments of the fantasy along with The Lord of the Rings. So expect the style to be closer to Tolkien than to contemporary authors like Brandon, but nevertheless it's good.
  8. I was told that it was confusing who is who at first, so quick guide: Haesar (nickname: Hes) - the leader, power of fire. His hallmark is blue fire. Hoarfroster - cold/ice mage. Alchemist - runes, symbols, protective circles, matter warping a'la FMA and energy convertion. Female. Plague - power of decay. Due to it being so destructive oriented, he isn't able to create any armor for himself. Fang - not relevant now. So that's it. Something more about characters: Haesar Esagvere (abbreviated: Hes) - fire mage, leader, the most experienced one due to being initiated few years earlier. He initiated the rest of them. Weapon: straight sword. He is the only one with full body armor because due to having these few years of experience more he is simply better at magic than the rest. He gained the nickname Blue Flame. Hoarfrost - second in command, cold mage. He also chose a sword as a weapon. Plague - mage of decay. Due to his power being so destruction oriented he can't forge any kind of armor for himself and the standard set of body augmenting and regenerative spells is weaker. He named his sword 'Vanitas' (bonus points for figuring out the reference!) Fang - he is one of his kind since each of his parents descends from a lineage of vampires(mother) or werewolves(father). Both of these powers were dormant, he was initiated as a mage what allows him to pick different attributes of both powers. Due to his double supernatural senses he is the tracker of the team. He uses claws as weapon. He is good with animals etc. ( I am not sure about this vampires/werewolves thing, but I want to keep mixed lineage) Alchemist - runes, symbols, protective circles, matter warping a'la FMA and energy convertion. Female. She wields no weapon, she paints runes and symbols on her body what has both advantages and disadvantages. (I am not sure about her name, 'Alchemist' doesn't sound right enough) The story is kind of what-if in the future - this scene is the opening of the story of what would happen should nuclear war start. With mages. So the main story would be some kind of magic post-apo. Tell me what you think, please P.S. that's my first translation into English of something so long, feel free to point out wrong use of tenses and things like that.
  9. I'd like to see some cross world Shard guerrilla warfare. With Vin vs. Ruin we have seen direct Shardic fight; with Honor&Cultivation vs. Odium we see a one-world war waged with troops; time for two worlds at war, but since we're not at FTL level yet, it would have to be waged by worldhopper guerrila.
  10. Oversleep joins the table. "Sorry I kept you waiting - I accidently set a window curtain on fire.". He opens the box and pulls out two vials containing steel in whiskey, giving one to Kynedath. Oversleep raises his vial in toast and says "May our game provide us entertainment!"
  11. But I mean the time period before Aharietam. After the Heralds were chosen and before they betrayed Talenel. Do we know how long a Desolation lasts? Few years IIRC. So that's enough time for bonding a spren.
  12. Wait, is that character's name "Shen"? Like the nickname Kaladin gave Rlain when he was in bridge crew?
  13. I understood that like Renarin has just bad writing. As for the being controlled/involuntary part, I personally think that he has more of compulsive need to convey information about what he sees than being controlled by it. As for the Truthwatchers' Surges use, I never noticed that Trutwatchers should simply use Illumination and Progression; but wouldn't it be a little boring if the Orders would be capable of exactly the same things?
  14. Perhaps you should swear the first Ideal and see which path you follow. If you're more fond of feedback and pointing out inconsistencies than theorymaking, you're a Theorybreaker. If it turns out to be the opposite, you're Theorybringer
  15. Wait, do we have any confirmation about how many beads of lerasium did Hoid take? Maybe he burned a few and took another few for Feruchemy?
  16. *fully paranoic voice* Don't believe it! He's just a distraction! They are trying to draw our attention away from the true Shardwatcher!
  17. "Oh you know, the cue ball has some metal in it so you don't use cue stick but Steelpushes instead" Oversleep takes out a box with a set of vials inside. "To standardise the force, you drink only one vial at the time; each vial contains only a grain of steel to limit the maximal output. The rest of the rules is the same, but it's considered polite not to Push it in the air too much." Oversleep throws his coat at the hanger and cracks his knuckles. Coat bursts into blue flames in reaction to that gesture; Oversleep snaps his fingers and fire perishes. "Sorry about that, I always forget!" I'd rather do some banter over some roleplayed game instead of playing a game, really. Exchanging some rumors et cetera.
  18. You're a Sanderfan when you think of starting your personal list of questions to ask in case Brandon comes to your contry at some point in time...
  19. Well, we've seen Syl interact with things Physically, Pattern did open some locks, Wyndle have wobbled the roll. All of that is evidence of already bonded (aka already pulled stronger into Physical than average) spren; we don't know if lesser spren could also interact with things and of course there are also spren not leaving Shadesmar...
  20. "Kynedath, how about Coinshot billard? And be so kind and open the window, please" Oversleep waves from the outside of the window.
  21. Are we advanced enough for Sanderson to use reversed psychology on us? To announce Autonomy and expect us to expect some kind of ploy from him? "I could drop some other Shard's name, but they expect me to lead them astray. Hmm... Time for reversed psychology, I will drop that Shard's name! They will never believe that Bavadin is messing with Sazed! Buahahahahaha!" And probably now the person who observes us for Brandon (I will call that person the Shardwatcher from now on, Brandon's personal observer of theories striking to close etc) will go "Master, they are on to us! You have to drop info to lead them away from Autonomy! And we need a way to silence the user who found out!" P.S. I know you're reading this, Shardwatcher. I will not be silenced. I am the one thing you can never silence. I am Hope.
  22. That's right. Three days ago we had a renewal of Alloy Of Law as part of big series of Cosmere books run. AoL was published few years ago, but since The Way of Kings we have sort of Sanderson boom and starting with the first book of Mistborn in the June we get a book every two months (more or less): June,WoA in August, HoA in October, AoL three days ago, Shadows are scheduled for 2th of March, Bands for 27th of April; probably: Elantris in July, Emperor's Soul in September... and once the plan was for Oathbringer in December or something around that, but I personally think they're gonna fill the space with Warbreaker. Every book but SoS, BoM and Oatbringer (obviously) was published already, but since then the rest was unobtainable. Thanks to the rerun the fanbase is growing and thanks to the 17thShard I happen to be "the guy who knows (almost) everything" . In fact, I am part of the staff of the Polish fanbase site. Hence my topic where I asked for help with some quotes, we contacted the publisher to get them straight (the Diagram code was incorrect in many places and they mistranslated Hoid's "perfect pitch" and translating convention is weird about "Investiture". They call it "Infusing". I fear it's too late to change it to "Investiture"). By the way, could somebody point me to some Three Realms and Realmatic Theory information source? Coppermind is rather tight-lipped on the subject. I am writing an infodump article P.S. I got covers for SoS and Bom, anybody interested?
  23. Welcome to the Shard! If you want a cookie, take mine. Mine are of a longer tradition than those of ClockWork PoleAxe
  24. It just occured to me that maybe Cryptics just like non-binary logic. Or fuzzy logic. It fits with them being about numbers It fits with their attraction to false/true things Maybe people just misinterpreted them while naming them "liespren" and that's why they don't like that name.
