  1. I came up with Isolation, but a moment later decided to delete it. Autonomy+Honor (like a hermit or something) and Autonomy+Odium (not caring about anything - Indifference). But I decided to delete Isolation to find a better word for it. EDIT: Detachment. But seriously, Honor + Autonomy doesn't necessarily mean detaching yourself from the world. Try to find better Intent. *sobs*
  2. Reckoners confirmed to be Cosmere. I've added the spreadsheet link to the first post.
  3. I've made some improvements to the table (making it a triangle matrix), but I feel that we should discuss some of the Shards we have came up with. Some are repeated, some I feel aren't right. For example, Devotion should be part of Fanaticism, but I have seen Fanaticism all over the place. Some are very good ideas (like Dominion + Preservation = Order), but some aren't and we should discuss them. And while posting here your ideas, try to explain them.
  4. The way I see it the original 16 Shards are basic concepts, like you put it, Rasarr, but combined Shards can have more complex Intents. Autonomy is about independence and Dominion is about having power over something. So together it would be about rulership or governing. Ruin + Dominion would be probably Terror or Sadism. Odium + Dominion = Superiority. Hating those you have power over. Seriously, we need to do a table to keep this cleaner. How can I do a shared document on the Shard?
  5. Do we know if any two Shards can be picked up together? What do we know about combining Shards?
  6. Endowment + Preservation = Protection? Damnation, why Honor has so many aspects? Odium + Devotion = Ambivalence? Odium + Dominion = Abuse? What a relief that Rayse didn't want to pick up any other Shard. Because Odium + Ruin is super scary. I think I will start a shared document to have all these ideas in one place... But I don't know how to do it.
  7. EDIT: Here's the spreadsheet. I know that's what you're here for anyway Please don't remove anything from the spreadsheet; if you disagree with any proposed Shard combination, write about it here and we will discuss it and possibly decide to remove it. If you want to highlight any proposition for discussion, color it orange for everyone to see. P.S. There is the second tab with triple Shard sheet, remember to look there sometime ---- Old post: We're already working on figuring out opposing Shards and figuring out what are the remaining Intents. Let's approach it from a different point of view. Let's combine the Shards. For example, a divine attribute could be "vengeful". I bet somebody would say revenge is of Odium, but vengeance is not only hatred, since you avenge only for something. It's not just blind hatred, there is some justice component in it. So I think Honor + Odium = Vengeance. There are 120 different combinations of double Shards and 560 different triple Shards. We have a lot of room. (Of course since we know only Intents of nine Shards, we can only make 45 double Shards and 84 triple Shards) We know that Ruin would be most compatible with Cultivation and I think that such combination would result in Shard named "Change" or something along this line. Cultivation makes things progress, Ruin makes things decay. Both are about changing things, so Cultivation+Ruin would be a Shard of true change, which can change things both ways. Now there is a problem because perfect counterpart for Change is Preservation. So we're combining double Shard with its single Shard opposite. What would that be? Existence? Creation?... Creation seems good. Edit (after Stormgate's post): I know Adonalsium is said to be a force of creation, but almighty god isn't all about creating things. There is also that punishing the bad people part, showing mercy, establishing free will, ruling... What are your ideas? Edit: The Young Bard created a spreadsheet. You can add Intents there directly, but please post them also here and explain your reasoning for coming up with the Shard.
  8. To change writing and such Shard have to be more Invested in the Shardworld. Ruin could change writing because he was heavily Invested in Scadrial (he helped create it) and Odium cannot because he isn't as much Invested and also sits on another planet.
  9. Okay, let's assume two people, one average and one genius. Give them a problem to solve (chess situation or math problem or something with many possible solutions). Average person will work out a solution in his/her own time and genius will have another solution. Now, throwing in zinc Compounding just cuts down the time needed for both of them to work out their solutions, but wouldn't significantly alter their reasoning. That's how I see mental speed. Of course, I'm willing to agree on slight boost to intelligence, but it wouldn't be a primary effect.
  10. Yeah, I'm aware of that, but to me "intuitive leaps" are included in faster thinking. Although I see that it can be argued it has to do with intelligence. I probably could talk about what's the difference, but I don't feel like it. It's not terribly important (and I'm not in the mood).
  11. I am not sure about this whole "seeing future is of Voidbringers". It's true that Renarin should have access to Illumination and Progression, but the names of the Orders themselves has come from something, right? Windrunners run on wind, Skybreakers are also associated with sky and breaking (Division) and bringing holy justice, Lightweavers do weave light, Edgedancers were descirbed as dancing on the battlefield and capable of running on the thinniest threads, Bondsmiths are about smithing bonds between people, Dustbringers are very destructively oriented, they literally turn their foes into ashes (they bring dust) and so on. So Truthwatchers should have something associated with seeing or watching. Being able to create Illusions is not seeing things. So I think that visions are part of Truthwatcher package.
  12. ... Ghostbloods confirmed?
  13. Actually it was always called Voidbinding.
  14. But only Divine Breath is a Splinter of Endowment; regular Breaths are just some kind of background Investiture... I'm not really sure how it works, the more people there are, the more Breath there is, so where does all this Investiture comes from? If Preservation put more of himself in humans, how is it that new humans doesn't take more power from him?
  15. It doesn't make you smarter, but you think faster. If you're... not very bright... it won't make you a genius. Zinc probably has no effect on intelligence, but thinking faster is a big advantage.
  16. Why shouldn't it? You can be a Sanderson fan without being cosmere-aware. Right now FB group has 150 members. The site has some relationship with publisher (we're given some books to give away as prizes in contests and such); the site also exists to attract new people and the url is wayofkings.com (I'm translating, it's "drogakrolow.pl" in reality) so after typing in Polish title of WoK Google positions our site as 3rd link. As for Cosmere Awareness... Well, Elantris, Warbreaker and Mistborn Original Trilogy were once published in Poland, but with little recognition. Until one year ago when WoK came out followed by WoR. These were such a hit that publisher decided to reprint all the old ones and print the new ones. So we've got first four Mistborns reprinted in the last 7 months. These were also doing quite good, so more Sanderfans. I started on the FB group, always surprising people with things like Hoid being an Allomancer and such; two months ago I joined the site crew along with two other people and now there are four admins of the page. Since Cosmere awareness is so low, I took it on myself to educate people. I started with an article about Adonalsium, Shards, Slivers and Splinters month ago and right now I'm writing one about Investiture and how magic on Shardworlds came to be (so about focuses and so on). I also plan an article about Compounding, since a lot of knowledge comes directly from Brandon and not from the books which means people don't know much about it. There is also a guy who read through SA and wrote a massive article on weaponry in Roshar (it's on par with 17thShard knowledge or even better). So we're planning to do the good work and build a strong fanbase and that's why I need everyone I can reach on 17thShard.
  17. I'm gonna take it for a yes. In two days I'll be starting the thread.
  18. I see people never think about other issues with Metallic Art in our world. Feruchemist, you start wearing rings, bracelets and much of other stuff. Mistborn, you need to find perfect alloys constantly. I'd pick Feruchemy, I already spend like two hours each day in public communication. I can store everything (apart form breath, I suppose. People would give me funny looks if I start hyperventilating.). Also, I love Feruchemical bronze. Sleep all you want during holidays and then you stop falling asleep in classes. Modern human spends... how much time sitting? Listening to the lecturers/working, doing homework, commuting, watching TV. You can easily store strenght, speed, weight, warmth, fortune and connection (no idea how aluminum or nicrosil works). While commuting also senses, mental speed and determination. Copper is always super useful. Super memorization skills? Yes, please. Gold could be troublesome.
  19. Actually I meant Endowing Breath. You Endow Breath through Command accompanied by mind onto something.
  20. Simple. Wibbly wobbly realmatical investiture stuff.
  21. Typical compilation errors are using a not declared variable or accessing nonexistant objects and such. AonDor's compilator catches them, as Aons fade away or the program misbehaves (but I believe that misbehaviour to be an effect of logic error). Logic errors does not make program invalid; it behaves incorrectly (in a way not intended), but program itself is fine. BTW, forever loop is not an error. Operating systems work that way. Correct question is what happens when you make a runtime error. ... What can cause AonDor to crash? Runtime errors would be segmentation faults and such. Does Dor have some countermeasures againts attempts of dividing by zero?
  22. Plot Feruchemy. He stores ability to kill, but at the same time he cannot be killed. He stores the years he should live through and then taps to live in another time (WoB: Hoid hasn't lived through all the years he was alive.)
  23. "I heard that human killed gods." "Without cooling, Sunblade will go nuclear."
  24. Moogle, I am not sure you correctly understood what I meant by Continuous and Discrete magic. Continuous magic system is a system with all the users capable of the same things - Awakeners can all use the same Commands. But users of Discrete Magic do not. All Allomancers use the same focus (metal) but not the same subfocuses: Coinshots use steel and Seekers use bronze. One cannot use the other's subfocus. All magic users on Sel use forms and shapes, but ChayShanist cannot draw Aons in the air like Elantrians do. And you're not quite right about Awakening - all Awakeners use Commands. Vasher himself said that Awakeners of Tenth Heightening use Commands (they can be mental, but still needed). It's not that will and intent are more important here - I'd actually say that Allomancy allows for more free room with the power than Awakening. Awakening would be between Aons and metals, I'd say. Once you're burning steel you can do anything you want with it, but with Commands you have to be very specific about what the Awakened Object is to do and your mind have to give context to it. I'd be easier to explain if you were a programmer, but I'll try. AonDor is like assembler - rough, do very specific thing and consists of (relatively) small set of instructions. To do complex thing you have to use a lot of instructions. Awakening is like a a higher level programming - it needs context (mental image), it has a large set of instructions (a whole language, I'd say XD) and very complex things can be contained in few words.
