Students. "I have to do something and the deadline is tomorrow! But I haven't slept for three last days, I have to get some sleep!" Then he goes and pays for 27 hours of time (24 seconds for Sliders and three seconds of outside time) to get some sleep and do his work.

@hwiles, you've made a mistake. They would jump even faster. The formula is slow-down-factor to the power of the number of Sliders. It's 8^10, not 10^8. 8^10 > 10^8. Another thing: If cadmium costs 2$ per kilo it isn't expensive at all. Marasi states that cadmium and bendalloy are the most expensive metals (that could change in the modern Era). The thing is, you have to keep inflation in mind. Taxes. I remember doing calculations wiht math teacher few years ago about putting a lot of money today (when you're 15) in saving account and pulling them out when you're 70. The profit wasn't much. What's worse, the bank could fall in the meantime and you wouldn't know it. There could be some crisis. (BTW, watch The Big Short) You're better off investing in some obligations. Or I could start an investment fund for Pulsers To maximize the money I make (apart from being paid for managing it) I also put some money into it. Me and my 6 comanagers. We all manage the fund and we're all Sliders. Each of us manages it for one day. The rest of the time is spent jumping. Since there is 6 of us jumping, we speed up time 8^6 (=262 144) times. So the six days we compress into 1,97 seconds. Dammit. I figured out people would stop Sliding to let one person out and one person in, but we would have to stop Sliding every 0,33 seconds. That doesn't sound manageable. Maybe two sets of three Sliders? We'd compress six days into 17 minutes. Not bad. We'd let one person out and one person in every ~6 minutes. He'd have time to tell us what happened. So effectively I live about 1/7 of these 52 years, so I wait for my payout about ~7,5 years. The thing is, I'd live through only one day of the week. Imagine 7,5 years composed of only Mondays.

Short answer: No. It's impossible in the air. Proof: IIRC the body goes up if it's less dense than surroundings, sinks when it's denser and floats when it's of the same density. So for it to take effect Skimmer would have to store... let's see, shall we? Density of the air at sea level (the higher the less) in 20*C is 1,2 kg/m^3. Human body is about 1100kg/m^3. So Skimmer would need to decrease his weight over 900 times. 1/900 is about 0,11%. Skimmer would need to store about 99,8% of his weight to be of the same density as the air at the sea level and let's keep in mind that air density decreases as you go up. We have it confirmed that Feruchemist can store up to 80%, at his best. So he wouldn't be even able to float in the air. However, a Skimmer could definitely mess with floating and sinking in the water. That is, if storing weight changed your density... We have it confirmed that storing weight doesn't affect your density. At all. Both in books and by WoB. It's something related to bosons.

Thermopylae are... I don't know, the oldest example in the history? XD Of course I know it! I may be a nerd, but I don't live under rock or something I've seen films, but I know enough history that I wouldn't find the psychological part there. But fighting part? It could be of some use. But not very useful.

First, a WoB that got me thinking: source. Theory: Shardplate is made of solid Stormlight. Now I don't have quotes on me, but when Shardblade (which is also solid Investiture, as it's spren pulled into Physical) destroys part of Shardplate, it explodes: there are drops of molten metal and Stormlight leaking out (Stormlight is from the gems powering the armor), but metal which was solid became liquid. It fits with the theory that Radiants grow Shardplate similarly to Listeners growing carapace and other lifeforms growing shells and whatnot. P.S. What lake they're talking about? 0.0

So there is this film: And I have seen high amounts of hype over it and while I admit that trailers are good and all, but where is all this hype coming from? (I've checked LAIKA and they did few films I haven't heard about until know - perhaps they were popular?)

Ym Interlude: Iriali and the Long Trail (WoR Spoilers)
Oversleep replied to The Question's topic in Stormlight Archive
Ym is not only a worldhopper, but comes from a different multiverse. Kingkiller's Chronicles confirmed to be sort-of-cosmere. I have never noticed that similarity until now. -
I suspect that there may be Coinshots or Lurchers in casinos checking if people doesn't have metalminds on them...

Wayne fighting Vanishers one on one in time bubbles? They definitely had Aluminium on them and if it was moving in the outside time, somebody would definitely notice. If aluminium was tested enough to know that wearing it on head granted invulnerability to zinc and brass, then I suppose somebody would have tested it in time bubbles...

Maybe try to ask him a question as if the Threnody being a Shard was already confirmed Like "Was it Odium who killed Threnody?" If you're lucky and Brandon doesn't catch on, we have three outcomes: it's a Shard and you get an answer to your question it isn't a Shard and you get a "why did you think that's a Shard?" he will answer, catch on and then immediately you will be hunted down for asking tricky questions I am not sure about the last one, like 50-50 chances.

Yeah, I did it before posting here. You may find examples of TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Vocabulary in the first posts

I recently have thought how certain Shards have numbers associated with them and about the concept of Shards as four dimensional vectors (axis of change (Cultivation, Ruin) vs. no change (Preservation) and similar). What if these numbers are just Shard's coordinates? Honor is 0;1;0;1;0 (ten in binary); Preservation 1;0;0;0;0; (sixteen in binary). I am not sure about Endowment, but maybe five is her number? Then Endowment is 0;0;1;0;1. Maybe combining Shards is a logical operation? What if all the Shards together (Adonalsium) have 0;0;0;0;0 (or 1;0;0;0;0)? 1 xor 2 xor 3 xor... xor 15 xor 16 is 16 (Shards' numbers are 1 to 16 and Adonalsium is 16) 0 xor 1 xor 2 xor... xor 14 xor 15 is 0 (Adonalsium is 0 and Shards are 0 to 15 and Shard's number is number+1) Maybe it's not xor. I don't know, random idea. Maybe it's a different binary code (there are many), since Preservation would be the only one with a 1 in 2^4 slot in the natural one (with Shards being numbered 1-16. On the other hand, with Shard being numbered 0-15 Preservation would be 0;1;1;1;1 - so many 1's). What are your thoughts?

But his mistresses were not skaa, were they? So he could keep them without any problem, but not killing the skaa Elend slept with would mean breaking Empire's laws.

Books, films, manga, anime...Doesn't matter what. I'm looking for examples of Last Stand - situation where one side decides to hold their ground against enemy forces (which often are bigger). Less of You Shall Not Pass when one character does this, but post it anyway. Often Last Stand happens when large group chases a smaller one and then the smaller one (or part of it) decides that they're tired of running. __________________________________ I want to write about my characters deciding to send off one person with warning and then preparing to slow down approaching army. They will be camping for few days; I want to write about how they will feel, what they will talk about knowing that in few days they will certainly die. And then they will go and fight the army. How will not-so-distant death influence their minds, feelings, behaviour? They will probably open to each other, but since they're close friends there is not much to share. Maybe some Unresolved Romantic Tension will be finally resolved. Or maybe not. I don't know yet. It's a hard topic and so here I am, asking for examples. There will be at least 5 characters, but definitely less than 10. EDIT: I also want to write the fight, it's not all about the time before it, but both waiting and fighting will be given the same plot weight. So fight is also important, if you have good examples of such fights, you can also post them. Also any fights with supernatural character versus many (normal or supernatural, doesn't matter). Like if Vin didn't manage to stop Kelsier from attacking army alone. I think I will write something about the setting to give you a better explanation of what I'm looking for.
-
What for? Why would he break Empire laws, putting himself in danger? Certainly not for possibility of Allomancer offspring, as he personally tended to the growth of his Allomantic reserves. I'm more curious of possibilities of obtaining Elend's and Vin's DNA by some advanced parties...

That could be the fourth Shard Odium Splintered... @The Invested Beard It's a form of poem written in somebody's memory.

Yeah, I know all of this. But the mere fact that Elantrian survived leaving Sel meant something and that's why I included it in my summary. Knowing this it's pretty obvious that he must have some work-around, because without Dor he would die like TLR without atiumminds. Maybe he uses Stormlight, maybe he has brought Dor with him, we don't know. Do we know that Galladon manipulated his Connection? He also could have just learned the language, you know...
-
It could be also a short version of his full name. Like Elend being called "El".

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There is a lot we don't know about worldhoppers. We know that Allomancy works offworld. We know that Hemalurgy can be used anywhere, but it probably require making adjustments. We know that a Returned can feed himself with Stormlight. We know there is an Elantrian on Roshar, Terriswoman on Nalthis... Hoid uses Yolen Lightweaving off-Yolen, but Hoid is everything but ordinary, so I don't know if his case should be included. And that's basically all we know about using magic off-world. You probably should ask these kind of questions in "Question and Answer" thread.

theory Voidbringers, the Knights Radiant, and Gavilar
Oversleep replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I wonder if there is some cosmere-aware group cooperating with another Shard and they wanted the return of Voidbringers just because it meant that Odium had to weaken himself to create some voidspren. And then Odium would be attacked when he would be at his weakest. Just random thought.- 47 replies

On the other hand, all Surgebinders have Allomantic pewter with Gold Feruchemy (without needing to store!) as benefit of holding Stormlight. Then they also have access to two Surges, shapeshifting immediately-reacting Absurdly Sharp weapon and on top of that a very, very durable non-metal armor which doesn't hinder their movement in any way. Really, comparisions should be done only with Mistborn or Full Feruchemists. Edit: my 600th post! That makes it over 200 posts a month. Nice.

Yeah, I always thougth that the main use for mistwraiths that nobles have is simply making mists dangerous so that skaa stay at homes and don't try to escape.
