  1. I wonder how Returned end up as powerful Awakeners. Of course, Fifth Heightening as your base state is probably helpful, but to do Awakening you need a few hundred Breaths. Not that easy even for someone who doesn't eat away one Breath a week.
  2. Is jumping really that complicated? I assumed that if with normal weight you can exercise X Newtons of force, then with added weight the force doesn't change, as there is no difference in muscles and such; anyway, I can skip jumping and steer into Steelpushing right away.
  3. So the question is what Kaladin perceives as default weapon: spear, as it is darkeye weapon, or sword, as everybody knows Shardblades, which are gift from the Almighty and Honorblades which are wielded by the Heralds of the Almighty, are swords. Interesting.
  4. But the pulse pattern has nothing to do with external/internal Pushing/Pulling. Pattern describes the metal group.
  5. It's the middle of the night and I suddenly became hungry. For an unknown reason I'm craving spaghetti... I wonder why. With tomatoes the issue is the season. Right now, in the winter, I barely eat tomatoes. They don't taste good. Not at all. But in the right season (late summer), if you know where to get them (I don't know what life is like in the USA so it may not be relevant)... Not in the big stores, no, Stormfather, no. Cattle market would be perfect. There you can find some good tomatoes. Juicy. Fresh. During that time of year I could eat tomatoes all day long. Slice them, pour some olive oil, grate some good yellow cheese, eat with bread. You can skip butter altogether if you want, just eat bread with oil. Complete with red wine. I am lucky enough that my family grows some tomatoes in the garden. Almighty, these are wonderful. But not to derail the topic much, I'd make good use of Growth to get more of these tomatoes... P.S. Try black tomatoes, they're very good. Of course, it's still winter, so they'll be barely better than the usual sort, but still.
  6. The thing is, bronze signature consists of three variables: Pushing/Pulling, length of the impulse (internal metals have longer impulse than external metals) and the pattern of the impulses, how are impulses repeated (the group of the metals). For example, pattern of physical metals is quick repetition. Since the length of the pulse and Pushing/Pulling are clearly separate from each other and from the pulse pattern, they aren't muddling the recognition. Good. So to recognize a pattern all the Seeker has to is to note the time between each pulse. For physical metals, the time between each pulse is short. Unfortunately we don't know the patterns for the rest of the metals, but a pattern either is there or isn't. If the pattern is three quick repetitions and five slow, it can't be confused with two quick and three slow. From what Marsh what saying, you could tell what is the group the metal belongs to from the pattern only. If there wasn't any common pattern, they would just claim that higher metals don't share a pattern; they were higher metals, breaking base metal-alloy rule, why not just claim that because of that they don't share a pattern? Yet they said they do. They could go with "nobody ever wasted atium to check it's Allomantic signature; atium was always used in fights between Mistborns and they had their copperclouds" or "any Seeker who Seeked atium ended up dead anyway; if you have reason to Seek Mistborn and he's burning atium it means he's after you" or basically anything. I wonder why didn't Vin ask about the signatures of greater metals. She just was taught that all metals besides the gold and atium are divided into Pulling/Pushing external/internal groups of four. The question is begging to be asked: "So are gold and atium both Pulling metals or what? They are not alloys and alloys Push."
  7. It seems that atium and gold share a pulse pattern. That's very, very, very interesting. Shame that there was no information about Pushing/Pulling external/internal characteristic, as we still don't know what metal atium is. Well, now we know that it shares a pulse pattern with gold which has various implications. Of course, it could be attributed to the temporal metals switching Preservation did, but I find that unlikely. One thing is to create artificial Mistings; a completely another thing is changing Allomantic signature of god metal of your opposite Shard.
  8. I feel we need to get some physicist educated in the fluid mechanics here (or some seasoned sailor, but these are even harder to come by). I am not sure about the speed water has in different layers, but it seems that the lower you go the faster the whirlpool rotates (extrapolating from rotating rigid body) [as in the faster you are moving when your ship is there]. So when you're lower you move faster than the water above you; you use rowing to move up the whirlpool and given that you do it fast enough, you can maintain some of the speed you attained while being lower. Actually, to achieve such rowing, you don't need superpowers, just lots and lots of men. Given they change often, you could fight the whirlpool for some time. Rowing is the key here, as you're right that water won't accelerate you beyond its own speed, but to escape the whirlpool that big the key is the centrifugal force. I'm not really qualified to speak about these things as half of that is guessing based on the knowledge from similar branch of physics, but I actually don't know much about fluids. Sometimes I wish I could just mail my problems to some physicists like Brandon does to have them figured out Like, "can a hot enough fire become invisible?". That fire mages stuff I have to put up with
  9. When you read news about "Arcanum Unbounded" and go "uh-oh" because publisher wanted to publish "Emperor's Soul" in June and you bet they have no idea about "AU". Somebody has to tell them. Seriously, why I always end up as the person who is responsible for telling them they got something wrong? I'm almost sure that "WoR" second run is postponed because I send them an email pointing out various mistakes (like Diagram code being wrong) and informing about changes Brandon made. They could at least offer me a discount or something
  10. Is Zahel just using "Your Stormlight to mine" Command on Roshar? Would that be possible? (BTW, how this thread even works? Is somebody constantly adding the questions to the List?) Another one, rather important: Does atium and gold REALLY share a bronze pulse pattern? Marsh said that there is a pulse pattern for physical metals, mental metals and higher metals.
  11. Do we know it? I thought steelsight is Cognitive.
  12. We know about Dominion, Devotion and Honor.
  13. Radiant dying doesn't kill the spren. If now Kaladin was to break his oaths, after speaking third Oath... I don't know, really, since in the vision it appeared as if Radiants summoned their Blades and then broke the oaths. So they chose the shape first and then killed spren. My theory is that the chose this oversized swords to give humanity something to fight thunderclasts with.
  14. Use rowing to counteract force sucking it in, ride the whirlpool until eascepe velocity is reached. As I read it, there was no way to skip the whirlpool. They had to defeat it to get away from the islands.
  15. Okay. Important distinction here. His weight would decrease only in relation to how much he stores/taps it, alright? BUT if he were to stand on a scale, it would show less than he really weights. If we were to do some calculations with weight involved (like kinetic energy), we would still use Feruchemy-related weight, but if we were to do some math on jumping, we would use the one from the scale. It's all related to density, not weight per se. Ballon rises because it weighs less than the air which would take the balloon-shaped-space. Which means that air is denser than balloon. Bouyant force has nothing to do with weight! Changing his weight doesn't affect them at all! The buoyant force is related to do depth (of the air in this example) and the difference between top area and down area of the object (it's very hard with something such oddly shaped as human body. It would be easier if Wax was just a cube). What changing weight affects is the force of the gravity. And what matters here is if the gravity force is greater than, equal, or less than buoyant force. I don't mind someone with knowledge in the subject going through my post since I haven't done this particular field for few years
  16. Jasnah herself states that she can Soulcast and we've seen her Soulcast without Soulcaster (with fake one). She also states that two Orders had inherent ability of Soulcasting. If Willshapers also could Soulcast, that would break the two-Surges-per-Order rule. We've seen her Elsecalling. Having Surges of Transportation and Transformation she cannot belong into no other Order than Elsecallers. Q.E.D.
  17. Sazed in HoA epigraphs confirms that Hemalurgist is somebody with spikes. But it still could be both meanings.
  18. I'm not sure - see, you can't take Breaths by force. Since Nightblood is sentient... I think he could give them up to Vasher, but it would be impossible for Vasher to simply take them back by "Your Breath to mine" Command.
  19. Did you read WoR?
  20. Let's discuss some double meanings. For example, double metal can mean both Hemalurgy augmented metal and Compounded metal. But since Hemalurgy is so rare it generally means a Compounded metal. But who is the Hemalurgist? The one doing the Hemalurgy or the one receiving the spike?
  21. Did Wax ever move while overtapping iron? I don't remember that. He always Pushes something, sure, but I don't remember him actually walking while tapping lots of weight. There's not much value to it? The equations are the same, no matter jumping with your own legs or Pushing on metals. Those equations can tell us how Pushing (or jumping) is changed. Maybe we could finally calculate Pushing force.
  22. Internal strenght is increased, but from Sazed vs. Marsh I remember Sazed tapping strength to be able to move while tapping weight. And without that he had problems with moving, he felt his fists as if they were made of iron. His weight crushed him into the floor. If weight can be stored 100%... I remember passage about Wax storing it while riding a horse "to the point of almost floating". The question is, why not store all of it and strap yourself to the horse? I understand problems with moving, but certainly he had a lot of occasions to store all of it. The way I see it it's that density doesn't change (confirmed) but everything which interacts with weight is affected. Similar how in near light speeds objects interact as if they weighted a lot more but there is no increase in mass. So I just use normal equations but with decreased mass.
  23. I imagine you could store 100% of weight then (being weightless isn't particularly unhealthy, right?). But since Wax never did that, let's assume it's impossible. Storing 80% means he weights about 20 kilograms (assuming he weights about 80 kg). That doesn't affect the gravity, but since his strength is unchanged, he can definitely jump higher on his own. I'd say 5 times higher, but I need to do the physics, so I'll later post it.
  24. That's the quote, I think. Maybe some attributes can be stored 100% and some can't? I don't know. If somebody can store 100% in BoM, then of course it's canon that's possible. But I don't know if it applies to all attributes.
  25. For the waiting-before-battle part, everything is alright. But for the fight part, I have to make it clear that these characters can easily slaughter big numbers of ordinary humans. It's something similar to Mistborn or Shardbearer dying in fight againts overwhelming numbers. (Of course, enemies doesn't have to be ordinar humans, they also can be superpowered) So while Battle Of Helm's Deep may be a good example of people anticipating incoming death, the battle itself doesn't fit.
