Talenelat?

I'd like to point out that Kaladin's hate for lighteyes isn't 'racism' as someone named it. It's more like fight of the classes thing, the working class vs the rich ones. It is actually worse because the vorin society does work that way. While lighteyes may be not murdering darkeyes like nobles did with skaa, the social status difference is very visible. We've got a lot of people devoted to fighting the social status gap (marxism, communism and the rest of these horrors) and our society wasn't even a class one. Imagine living in a real class society where the simple fact of having eyes dark places you in the lower, working class. You may be exceptionally genius surgeon who worked whole life for it and still some lazy, stupid tenth danh lighteye has power over you and has higher status. The fact is that there are both 'good' and 'bad' lighteyes and Kaladin used to believe that until one he thought super-honorable came along. You know, the one Kaladin's men gave life for while fighting a Sharbearer and then that superhonorable lighteye murdered the rest of his men in cold blood and thanked him by selling him into slavery. Simple slavery is terrifying; top that with the rest of it and ask yourself: would I still believe that there are some 'good' lighteyes?

And then we got Nalthis where everyone is born with Breath and potentially everyone is an Awakener. How do we define magic if everyone is a mage?

Bands Of Mourning - meaning of the title.
Oversleep replied to Oversleep's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Would be there a reason not to translate them as "bracers"? After quick research I found out that "bands of mourning" were part of clothing of a mourner. Therefore, the translation is perfectly accurate. -
Please, no spoilers, as I haven't read that yet. I suppose that "of mourning" is from the verb "mourn", when somebody is very sad because somebody died. When translating the word "bands" a problem arises. Which meaning of band is it? The official translation has it like "armband" or "bandeau". Is it correct? Because it sounds a little... silly.

Some things we should remember: Kaladin trained Reverse and Full Lashing between the books, we see one of the tries at the beginning of WoR in the chasms What he trained and mastered mainly during WoR was Basic Lashing, the only one which was used in fight with Szeth. So it wasn't "he mastered two Surges in a few days", like some people claim While simply "using" the Surge could be mastered in few days, its application is what really counts: Basic Lashing lets you redirect gravity, all you have to do is to choose the direction and probably force. Nothing really complicated. But Lightweaving is terribly complex and while Shallan may be a master artist and have her Memories, we're talking about making illusions here. You have to take into account the surroundings when you cast it on the object. It have to be life-like. When you're using it on moving object, you have to make an animation of sorts with a few frames. Remember the illusion walking down the stars? Lightweaving is basically drawing, animating and programming an object in the game. On the fly. If you're casting it on yourself or another person, it gets worse. You have to take into account movements. All of them. People can make a lot of different movements and Lightweaver has to provide for that. Don't get me started on Lightweaving the face and facial expressions..

You don't need to merge them, just bond them. I believe that bonding all ten Honorblades will make the person something like Lerasium Mistborn in comparison to a Misting. ten times the Stormlight affinity, all the Surges doubled. On the other hand, the Honorblades feed on Stormlight, so your Stormlight usage would be insane.

Thanks, Weiry. I updated my post. I also have a request: I do not want this thread to become a place for theories, I want solid facts and quotes. Of course we can argue about their meaning, but I ask you to limit our discussion to only this, please.

I do that only to check temperature. Those days when it's cold, but the visible breath means temperature around 0°C.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough: In this topic we assume that Taln (who showed up at the end of WoK and got a PoV) and Talenel (the Herald Of Almighty, Stonesinew) aren't the same person. Two separate beings. I want this topic to become sort of database about Taln. Of course, the assumption may be false, but if we gathered all the information in one place, maybe we could make something out of it.

I believe we need some topic which would compile all the WoBs and hints and quotes and stuff we know about Taln. Taln - the one who showed up at the end of WoK Talenel - the Herald, Stonesinew They may be the same person, but for practical purposes we're gonna use these names to distinguish them. Brandon refuses to call this person Taln. Instead he says "person who calls himself Taln". Post what you know (with sources!), and I will add that to the main post every few days. Edit: I am going to read through this thread for information. I do not want this thread to become a place for theories, I want solid facts and quotes. Of course we can argue about their meaning, but I ask you to limit our discussion to only this, please.

Every move is fair, a lot of people can die, there is sweat, blood, tears, fear, tiredness, pain, fight. Sometimes there are assassins and weapons involved. Ideas are like bullets shot by blind sniper. -
Colours. Imagine Hoid meeting Elodin XD

Well, he may think himself smarter than the rest, but when does he act in this way? Like I-am-smarter-go-eat-crem? As far as smart people go (and I met a fair share of them) he is really nice. He is not falsely shy, he acknowledges the fact that he is smarter than the average and uses that fact when he is planning something, but I haven't noticed him gloating or somethin'.

What we see as cruel was norm few centuries ago. Well, nobody killed women just because a noble slept with them.

New Year, new theory! Well, the idea isn't new, but I want to provide additional insight. I'll be drawing pararells with Scadrial here. So, on Scadrial metal is undoubtely the focus, right? And if we had another Shard come to Scadrial, it would get its own godmetal, probably. Now, let's take a look at Surgebinders. They get powers by bonding a Splinter (spren in Roshar's example). What would happen if somebody bonded to a Splinter came to Roshar? Like person from Sel bonded to a Seon? It would also grant him some abilities (there was a WoB, but I can't find it). So what's important is having a bond. Parshendi bond spren very tightly, to the point of somewhat merging with them. (Shame we don't know which spren are used in Listeners' forms) Spren are bound to gems in fabrials to make them work. Now, let's take a look at Returned. They don't 'bond' a Splinter, they are one with the Splinter. Just like Listeners. Both of them possess some shapeshifting ability as a result. Your thoughts?

Yes, Raoden indeed.

It takes a lot of time and effort for it to be, yet everyone will ever comment only on the final product. Sleeping is like drug addiction. -
I had the idea of deriving powers from alternate dimensions with different laws of physics a couple of years ago. It is now incorporated in my magic system, which can be found here. Could I sue Sanderson for tons of money for stealing my idea? XD

What are you playing right now?
Oversleep replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I just started Dishonored and I'm a little overwhelmed with possibilities (I'm on the first assassination mission). I just caught myself on reloading the game past few hours 'because I could do that the other way!'. I have to choose a style of playing and stick to it. On one hand, I really like the stealth aspect, but on the other hand I don't want to do two 'stealth runs' (since I'll probably do one for the ghost/clean hands achievements). I like sniping people, but it won't be the 'high chaos run' since I do silent non-lethal take-downs whenever I can. Any help? -

I believe you merged two not necessarily related points into one. there was indeed a force opposing Adonalsium and it indeed created a weapon there was a plan against Adonalsium and it failed But it wasn't confirmed that the plan was made by this opposing force, was it?
