"This star chart is useless for figuring out distances." The physics of the Cognitive Realm suggests otherwise, especially in an era before honest-to-God-Beyond space travel. "The Rose Empire's language... didn't seem particularly Asian." I presume you meant "like Chinese or Japanese", but I seem to recall that the names of the Grands of the Rose Empire were all Persian. Which was, IIRC, located on the continent of Asia. "If you look at Puritan names, they get super weird." Even in Shadows for Silence, there's a petty thief mentioned named "Lamentation." Can't get much weirder than that. "I'm pretty sure that there's just the one highstorm." Actually, don't they arrive too frequently to be just one highstorm? And doesn't the Stormfather specifically send a storm to try and kill off the Voidbringers (and everyone else besides, but that's besides the point)? The Everstorm's projected behavior ("Like Highstorms, but less frequent," IIRC) implies just one of them.

From what I know of casinos (which is admittedly meager), they are not interested in a fair game. They want a game where money flows in, and doesn't flow out. However, they don't want it to be obvious that the odds are stacked against you and your wallet. Luckily, removing magic from the equation will tilt the odds in favor of the house all on its own (if they play their cards right). Hence, mechanical countermeasures like auto-Seekers and metal detectors. (Although Metalborn croupiers and waitstaff, strategically placed throughout the establishment, would not go amiss)
-
Actually, now I think of it, Allomantic reserves would not be noticed by a metal detector (unless the Allomancer in question downed a lot of it before heading out on the town). So, metal detector to filter out Feruchemy and Hemalurgy, and auto-Seekers to detect Allomancy. Dangit, now I want to fanfic up a Scadrian casino heist. What do you mean by this? Would the casino be cheating this way, or would the customers?
-
There are so, so many ways that each and every power associated with the Metallic Arts could be used in daily life, that discussion of such can and has filled several threads. Feruchemy in particular (especially full Feruchemy) would be a college student's dream, especially if they've had the time to store up a bit. Tap bronze to get yourself out of bed, Tap iron to get to class on time, store pewter and iron during the lecture, tap zinc during the question portion, store zinc and brass during lunch, etc., etc., etc.
-
I think just mechanical Seeking machines (thank you, BoM, for giving us the final piece of that puzzle) to detect things like metalminds and spikes. Or just make it a rule that no metal can be brought into the area you're trying to secure, and just do normal metal detectors.

tracking Brandon's amazing productivity

Good point. Unless his self-conception was that his tongue was cut out. (But then why would Lightsong be able to heal him?) Hrm.
-
Inspired by this thread: The Returned of Nalthis have a demonstrated ability to change their appearance based on how they think they should appear. Could they use this ability to self-heal (e.g. if Vasher got a nasty gash on his arm could he use the mutable nature of his being to heal it away)? If so, is it automatic (a la Stormlight healing) or deliberate (a la Gold Feruchemy)?
-
Maybe the healing happens automatically when a Returned receives a Breath, but is otherwise unconscious.

It's not stated either way. I choose to headcanon that the Steel Ministry frowned on it, but that Survivorist doctrine is centered so heavily on "Steel Ministry is wrong about everything" that if anti-homosexual sentiment persists in any way, shape, or form past the Catacendre, enough of the Basin population is Survivorist (Or Pathian, which wouldn't be any more sympathetic towards any hypothetical Sliverist homophobes) that voicing such would invite assault at worst, and ostracization at best.

Also, a major part of the Cosmere is the 4th Era of Mistborn, which also happens to be a space opera (this has been WoBed multiple times). Aagals Uch and Nod probably serve as sources for things necessary for sublight space travel, such as Helium-3. In which case they would become very important should the Scadrian system come under threat, from Shard and world alike.

A Review of the Listener's Songs

Or alternatively, once the Shards arrived, the Parshendi were of Cultivation until they were suborned by the hatespren. -
The Steel Alphabet characters are derived from those of ancient Terris, so no connection to spike placement is intended.
-
More of a shot down theory - Terris are native to Scadrial

The Terris organization is the Worldbringers, and the Rosharan storyteller tradition is the Worldsingers. -
How you guys think the Spiritual Realm functions?
Landis963 replied to Blightsong's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Identity I believe to be a function of the Cognitive Realm, not the Spiritual (Note that things gain a rudimentary self-awareness, e.g. the stick, and rudimentary wants/desires, e.g. the unbought knapsack in Secret History). However, I believe that whenever a given Identity sees into or enters the Spiritual, all the connections that they have made over the course of their entire life collapse into one point. That point being where the identity in question is. -
Her? Does Nightblood even have a gender?
-
Why not? Any Spiritual influence of sufficient magnitude should be able to speak to/affect a spiked person (see also: the Flaw). Admittedly, Ruin and Preservation would probably have priority, at least with a Scadrian spiked with one of the 16 base metals, but if they're not listening/distracted, I don't see why that opening couldn't be exploited by any other Shard who happened to be present.

Not a gemheart, per se, but it resembles the gargantuan figure that later features in one of Dalinar's highstorm visions. I forget when exactly it was.

theory Hoid is very upset about something

Easy way to dilate some time away without being tracked. Or found. Which would also explain how exactly he survived the better part of a year's worth of exposure to greatshell stomach acid. -
Why is Bravadin Brandons favorite shard holder?
Landis963 replied to Thanatos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Bavadin is Yolese, alongside Hoid, Ati, Leras, and the other Shards. -
If people don't have questions of their own, they find ones from here. There's also a handy-dandy Google doc in the OP.

Hoid in The Emperor's Soul (Major Spoilers)

Because he's working on a way to access the Dor when away from Sel. Being sure that he can access the Dor wherever he goes on Sel is a good first step. -
Nalan and the Kholin Issue [Edgedancer Spoilers]

No, because the nahel bond has little to do with a normal human-horse relationship (albeit one where the horse has intelligence comparable to a human) -
How do we know the name Shodel?
